You probably would have been told by your Vet Doctor that vaccination is essential for your dogs health. You are told your puppy needs to be vaccinated a number of times to be fully protected. Now the question is "How does this work?"

Knowing the reason for vaccination and how it works could really mean alot to both you and your pet.



What is Vaccination?

The use of vaccines to "boost" your pet's immune system hereby preventing virus and diseases from attacking your pet.

There are different vaccines for specific infections and viruses, but over time these vaccines have been combines to reduce the frequency of vaccines your dogs take over a period of time. line the "DHLPP" and other combines vaccines.

What is DHLPP?

(D)distemper
(H)hepatitis
(L) leptospirosis
(P)parainfluenza and
(P)parvovirus


Puppies automatically obtain Immunization from the first milk they taste from their mother. This strong immunization is constantly active and nullifies any given vaccination as long as its still active. It stays active for a couple of weeks.

Puppies should get their first vaccine at 8weeks of age, then two subsequent vaccines at 3-4weeks interval, as your Vet advises.

How does Vaccines work?

Now here's the BIG QUESTION.

A virus is created in a laboratory. This virus imitates an Actual Virus but does not cause harm to your pet like the Actual Virus would.

Now, This virus injected in your dog has the same behavior as the actual virus. on getting into your pet, its body system recognizes it as a strange element. Then activates its defense system to fight this stranger.

The body system has an in-built defense system, but needs to be activated. If this is activated by the actual virus, the response time might be slow as it is its first time of encountering such strange element. Some elements of the virus would sneak in and infect your pet.

The body system also has a memory. It remembers what happened when last this strange element was introduced, and defends the body system as at last memory.

Some vaccines have reactions in pets such as drowsiness, weakness and such, while some have no effect at all.

The frequency of vaccines depends on the type of vaccine administered. Speak with your Vet on when next your pet needs to be vaccinated.

Someone born in Ajegunle where their drainage is bad would have adapted with the mosquitoes and not even feel their bites no more,and if someone from leicester travels to dat zone in AJ might not be able to survive it.

Brilliant question.
Dogs who don't get enough colostrum don't have as strong of an immune system as those who do.

Pure bred puppies are weaned at 3-6weeks of age, Local bred puppies have as much milk.

every month? There's no vaccine that require monthly boosters. Not that I know of.

my pup contacted parvo virus at m vet place some months ago. it actually survived, but that period was a very tough and challenging. I'm scared of taking the dog to complete it's vaccines and don't have any other tursted vet around. what can I do?

I have completed my first and second vaccine. My vet said its monthly thing and another vet told me its not monthly thing... That all the dog needs is deworming.. I am confused at which of them to believe.

In cases like this, once a dog has survived parvo it's nearly impossible to get infected by thesame source. So feel free to complete the shots. And ensure you administer antibiotics 3days before and 3days after vaccinating.

Vaccination I only required thrice, over a period of 3-4weeks interval.

Deworming can be done monthly.

Antirabbies at 6mnths and yearly boosters.

Well, artifiaial collostrum is taken from an animal, mostly goats. They also have antibodies that boost the immune system. But there's nothing like the natural mommas milk.

I'm saying its rare to get the Infection from the same source. The immune system already has the memory of the virus. It knows what best to do. Now, I'm sure if it's constantly attacked, without immune boosters or antibiotics, the vrus can break the immune system.

The dog can't be infected with the virus again unless the immunity is compromised.The dog can be vaccinated after the episode.

even if u don't take ur dog out,u can still infect ur dog unless u dont visit people dt own dogs atall.so pls visit a reliable VET to complete the dogs vaccination and observe strict hygiene measures.

This is getting serious in Nigeria o.Vaccination can never be monthly, that person is not a vet.
If the dam was vaccinated u start DHLPP at 8 weeks then 2 weeks after.i usually give 3shots.
Then anually.

Yes. That. Noticed it for some time. Even saw a drop on her hind legs

How often should you vaccinate your puppy, if puppy keeps scratching/licking its genitals, is this normal?
