While this discussion was going on, i put a call to my co-worker and he still angrily told me never to associate his Ilaje group to Yorubas and hanged up on me, so now who do i believe? When you look at the facial tribal/trade mark of the Aworis, it's far different from that of the Ilajes and the Yorubas. The Ife people who are from Sudan also have different facial tribal marks.
mr man,if you believe your friend then these thread should be closed.cos there is nothing to talk about again

@op, i have never come accross any ikale, ilaje, egba, denoucing being Yoruba. They are all dialects in Yoruba language. Moreso, nobody is more "yoruba" than other, no division in Yorubaland. Though, i dont know much about Egun!
Egun is also a Yoruba dialect

For crying out loud watch yourself. All the names you've mentioned are just the different dialects of spoken Yoruba, Ijebu for example is an Ogun state dialect.

Please change the name of the thread as you are making it seem like Yorubas are confused people, we are all the same from western Nigeria to Togo.

And please google is your friend.

Again google is your friend, Egun is a Yoruba word, Ijebus are famous due to there very powerful YORUBA army, and which Aworis, Aworis are 100% Yoruba, the name means the plate has sunk in Yoruba.
Your explanation is so dry. How can you say that egun and awori are yoruba words therefore they are yorubas.
Do you know edo means yellow in igbo. Does that mean Edo pple are Igbos?
Try harder.

Good for you, anyway it seems like you have gotten a hold of the Wikipedia page, what is the very first statement that you can you read?

The Awori are a tribe of the Yoruba people speaking a distinct dialect of the Yoruba language.

Case closed.

Aworis are not Yoruba's, there was a time they asked Yoruba's to leave lagos for them. Ijebu too are not Yoruba's, oba of ijebu said they are Sudanese.
I don't know of egba but egun definitely not yoruba.
Are you ok? I am both Ijebu and Awori and they are indeed Yoruba. Go to sleep.

I am yet to hear of any of those folks you said your non-existent co-worker listed (with the exception of Eguns who aren't Yorubas) claim to be anything but Yorubas.

In other news, is Philip Emegwali right when he said the following about the inhabitants of Onitsha? cheesy :

This is exactely what am trying to let the block heads understand, that when push comes to shove or otherwise, all those listed ethnic groups know exactely and will tell you in your face that they are not yorubas. Yorubas are fighting to take over Ilaje land convert Ilajes to becoming yorubas just because ilajes are the only ethnic group in the SW that have little deposit of oil. You know that without oil, Yorubas can not survive.

You guys be forming unity of yoruba tribes when infact the reality is most parents of this minority ethnic groups reminds their kids daily that they are not yoruba ,go and tell a typical ilaje man or itsekiri man that he's yoruba and see what happens, these are not yoruba tribes when they are with real yoruba the difference shows if i speak ilaje or itsekiri i bet you it would be strange to yoruba people.

Your mother might be Awori, but she is not Yoruba. You may be yoruba because your father is yoruba. Aworis that are claiming Lagos which though belongs to the Edo people once told all yorubas to pack and leave Lagos, true or false.

Badagry's case is not even in doubt even to those yorubas trying to cause confusion among all these ethnic minorities of the SW. Badagry is pure Egun and no one dare try to lump them together with their yoruba neighbors. Moreover, the Eguns have their own distinct facial tribal marks far different from that of the yorubas. Don't know how some people will wake up every morning and all they will think is how to take over other people's lands and territories. Tufiakwa!!
