They then sealed top spot in the three-team group (Egypt withdrew) with the last-gasp, come-from-behind draw with Senegal. The Senegalese looked to be heading to the top of the group when they took the lead through Ibrahima Keita in the 81st minute. What a weekend! Odion Jude Ighalo(watford), Savior Godwin(Kvo Ostende), Joseph Akpala(Kvo Ostende) all scored in wins for their sides. Vincent Enyeama(Losc Lille) kept a clean sheet vs. Olympique Lyonnais. Mikel obi(Chelsea) made a rare start but come o.... Why is it that almost every time Mourinho withdraws mikel for an amf, the chelsea midfield becomes an "expressway" for the opposing side? Well, I think I do know.... Was just posing the question. But the biggest of them all has to be Kelechi Iheanacho(man city fc). For a player so talented but young, stepping unto the field in the eyes of millions watching from all over the globe in the world's most glamorous and most followed league.... He showed guts..... Big guts. Surrounded by world super stars in Nasri, Yaya toure, Yannick bolasie, Aguero, Bony, Navas, Kompany, etc, He wasn't stage-frightened or cowed. He sought no one's autograph or shirt when he stepped unto that pitch... He went on to begin his own legend. Well done lad. The Nigerian talents that will guide Oliseh and the other senior national team coaches into our next era are here... Iheanacho, Success, Awoniyi, Savior, Ndidi, Ighalo, Moses Simon, Ikeme, Leon Balogun, Among many others and the established ones(onazi, mikel, vic moses, omeruo, oboabona, musa, enyeama, etc). Mr Sunday Oliseh, the ball is in your court..... Play it well. *smiles* |

"My boys made me proud, I love their fighting spirit, to concede a goal that late and come back to equalize is a sign that the boys have a strong mentality,” remarked Siasia. “I must also commend Mustapha who was able to calm his nerves to score the equaliser. “For now let's just go and savour our qualification for the semi-finals, as this draw has made us to avoid the hosts (Congo) who would have been tough to play, I would prefer playing them in the final." He started working with the squad last season. He will be a very important player in the future.’ Pellegrini has already shown faith in the starlet’s ability just by putting him in their 18-man squad. On Sunday, Iheanacho, 18, scored late on to ensure City won their fifth straight game of the new season and afterwards the Nigeria youngster said his club are much stronger for this campaign. City are now five points clear of city rivals Manchester United at the top of the EPL table. "I am happy to score a goal like that," Iheanacho told Sky Sports. "Palace are a great team, but we are also a strong team. I am hoping to do great for the team. "It is not easy because there are great players here, but I have to work hard and I will get there. We are much stronger this season and we are going to go all the way." Iheanacho, who wears the number 72 shirt for City, has been capped by Nigeria at U17 and U20 levels. City boss Pellegrini remarked: "Kelechi is a very important striker and just 18 years of age. He has a lot to improve." Of course he did. For that he has our thanks as with amuneke and ugbade..... But he tried to ruin it all.... In fact, he did ruin it in NZ. He may be the coach who brought Nacho to limelight in U.A.E but he's certainly not the one responsible for Nacho's big improvements of late and his gradual transformation into "the perfect genuine article". Coaches are great coz they are the discoverers and nurturers but the players "that make things happen" combining their unique talents with good coaching lessons are always bound to turn out the greater and the ones with the highest attention. But indeed the higher greatness lies in discovery and nurturing. Manu Garba wanted to prove a point to the detriment of his team's ultimate goal. He chose the wrong time, the wrong place and the wrong game to act out his "I-am-the-Star-here-not-you" ego. He may be the boss with this beautiful idea of total football rebirth but without the right materials(gifted players) to execute it, it's all just textbook theory and a soccer hypothesis. He ignored the law of balance of respect between coach and important/key players. So yes, he gave Nacho his big break at the u-17 and I hope the Nff keeps him and Ugbade with our u-20 youth team, but he allowed his own pride swallow him up. In 2004, when I was 12, I read an argumentative article in a soccer magazine and it asked this question, "WHO WINS GAMES ACTUALLY? COACHES OR PLAYERS" You choose... But I came up with this, "Players win you games but Coaches (and I mean good, intelligent coaches) win you Championships and Tournaments". So coaches like Manu Garba should realise that you cannot win championships with your brilliant opponent-reading skills and tactics without your players winning games one step at a time. TheSuperNerd:"Surrounded by by world super stars in Nasri, Yaya toure, YANNICK BOLASIE, Aguero, Bony, Navas, Kompany, etc"... Take it easy there 'tiger',bolasie mentioned in the same sentence as one of the world super stars just to support our boy kelechi is very ludicrous, I will prefer to use kelechi in my team that is on his way to rival those names u mentioned in stardom than bolsie(not taking anything away frm the lad though). Thumbs up to kelechi for his goal against crystal palace,it takes a lot of nerve for young lad to score in the epl even if the goal opportunity presented itself in form of a penalty but kelechi still needs to calm down and not let d goal he scored make him complacent, he still needs to be better than his previous game, I remember a certain 'messi' always willing to improve more unlik a Giovanni dos santos that could not manage his rising fame... Kelechi keep on improving because you are still not the finished article yet because as a nigerian like you I ve more to benefit from you even though we re not related. Keep up the good work you are "just" starting. Respect to sir icon for his well thought and developed analysis, I do come here to read your comments.. Goodjoe respect!!! |

Icon4s:The 89 team is by considerable distance the best u20 team nigeria has presented for a tournament... They were a real functioning machine... They didnt win the cup anyway but got to the finals.. However, when we say potentials, the 2015 team takes it all on a player by player basis.. Infact that is why their showing was seen as a huge disappointment. The 2007 team of brown ideye, bala ezekiel et al reached the quarter-finals but it was clear they where running on full throttle and could not have provided anything more.. . The 2015 team ran on gear one when they were a six gear machine.. If you still cant fathom my analogy then.......... |

Icon4s: Are you saying if we take out their top four players that the 89 set would have had the same effect? Remember, Russia put four goals past them. If you carry that squad from a Summer weather to play in a subzero weather, the performance will not be the same. That is a fact. The factors against the 2015 set was too much. The world missed on maybe the best assembled U20 team ever. As Safarigirl said, time will tell how good these guys were because the NFF and Manu stopped the World from seeing how great they are. |

They won 2-1 against Saudi Arabia, lost 1-0 to Portugal, they drew 1-1 with the Czechs, played 4-4 with Russia and won on penalties, they won USA 2-1 and lost 2-0 to Portugal. That is Three wins against Saudi Arabia, USA and Russia on penalties. One draw and Two losses. They were not all that as you make them. |
