SHOCKING LIVING OF CUSTOMS OFFICERS

Officers of the Nigeria Customs Service have been complaining of the dilapidated barracks they call home. Many officers serving in the headquarters, Garki and other units around karu are not happy with their living conditions which some of the officers said it can be compare to abodes for pigs and rats.

I came to know about this when I visited a friend who lives in one of the NCS barracks in Karu site, Abuja. When he told me about all what they are passing through there, I felt so sorry for him. Looking at the environs it’s not meant for humans beings not to talk of law enforcement officers with their families. With such living condition tell me how officers won’t be involve in corrupt and illegal deals in order to leave squalor. Look at how they are surrounded my sucker ways, dustbin and bushes. How can humans be living here? No wonder they refer to the block as block “RC” {Refugee Camp}.

According reports online many housing units have been built for rank and file officers. Looking around I saw some newly built two story building of about thirty rooms per block. When I asked one of the officers he said I should forget about Customs because the state of nepotism in the service is too much. Eager to know what he meant I pressurized him to tell me and he said the new built blocks were supposed to be theirs because in 2012 the house they were living in was demolished by the directives of the former Comptroller General Abdullahi Inde Dikko that a new block be erected. In other for them to have a temporary place to lay their head, they were given a very small room that cannot enter 23incs foam {mattress} but they have to manage it since they were promised by the authorities that it will be for an interim. At the completion of the houses the officers who were living at the house that was demolished since 2012 applied for accommodation in the said house that was promised to them but their countless letters were futile. They regrouped themselves and wrote another letter through the barracks provost of Karu yet the person who was in charge of allocation and accommodation deliberately refused to allocate the houses to them even after coming to see where those officers were staying that it was not good yet he told them to still pack out of that one in two weeks’ time when the officer asked where are they to pack to, he told them that is not his business maybe they don’t know him that he is Mr. Burukunu {Mr. Pepper}. It’s either pack out or he will throw their things out.

Later on the new houses was all allocated to different officers who are his friends, boys, relatives and boys of the Oga at the top at the detriment of those who were occupying it before. In anger one of the officers intruded into our conversation and say nearly all the people that have houses allocated them did have house before but because of they know the Mr. Burukunu so he gave houses again to them while others didn’t have even one to live in with their families.

On my way going out I saw all these building and some rooms are not yet occupied why not just allocate these empty rooms to those who deserve it? Why is it that all this Oga at the top like to see their fellow human suffer like this? Its really uncalled-for. Let us join hands together and fight all these injustice and nepotism in our country please an injustice to one is an injustice to all.

I beg the new leaders of our country and that of the service headed by Col Ali Hameed to do justice to this issue of accommodation in karu barracks.

buharis body language would soon fix it.....

Despite the malfeasance and monumental corruption surrounding the import waiver saga which was managed principally by Nigerian Customs, when Abdulahi Inde Dikko chose to voluntarily retire to enjoy his loot accumulated during his tenure as Comptroller General, President Buhari was all smiles, and even went through the new official endorsement protocol of picture taking session complete with handshake.

Reason for this warm and cosy disengagement from service is that Inde Dikko is from Musawa village in Katsina.

Other heads of MDA's from other parts of the country are treated as criminals with open hostility.

The ex customs boss spent millions of narrative buying up pages of newspapers and news magazines to polish his image and project a false facade. His ascension as Comptroller was mired in controversy over certificate forgery and scandal.

It is pretty clear you hate to be told the truth. I give you an example with the xenophobic case and there are many not mentioned by me. For your information, I am civilized enough to know that not all South Africans are xenophobic. If you read most of my posts with open mind you would understand that I refer to Zulus as xenophobic not all South Africans. You really don't have argument there.

Talking about tolerance South Africa would come next to nothing and Nigeria can easily edge it out in that area. Foreigners are continuously reported to be lynched by South African mobs, etc. There is the epidemic of r a p e cases and which your government is not taking serious. Adding that to the hate for African immigrants(most especially hating on Zimbabweans) in your society is unmentionable and irritating to say otherwise. You would have the understanding of what it means to be tolerant. I don't think South Africans are tolerant but are hypocritical. They tend to show a loving face in the media as though they love foreigners and called them kwerekwere in the secret which is a demeaning for unwelcome people in your community. They do that when it suits them. I quite have a good idea of how things work in your country.

Nigeria has a lot of things better than South Africa. We are number three in the world in movie production and there is no way SA can come close in a lifetime. Our music industry is moving places and come to shoot videos in your country thereby contributing to the economy of your country through the media outlets. We are more involved with peace-keeping activities in the continent more than SA. There is no doubt we are more embracing of your products as we allow your businesses to flourish in our country with preferential treatment. Back in your society your hoodlums loot our shops in Hillbrow, Sunnyville, etc. Even dating your women has created hate within your community that those who date Nigerians are frowned on. Do you still want to talk about tolerance after all?

I am one of those who say the truth here. I criticize Nigeria more than I do criticize SA. You need to read some of my posts on Nigeria and the leaders to ascertain my claim here.

Please, stop being childish for once!
you the one being childish ..Zimbabweans break into our homes ,kill our people ,eat our food ,receive grants meant for our people ,recieve our free medical care nd u expect us to sit back nd allow them to call us lazy,Xenophobes nd weak . They are ungrateful beings .

On the issue of better ... U talk nollywood nd music (both lack quality)..2 things helped by your large population .il also remind you that the other 2 you compete with also have large populations (u.s.a nd India ) . U embrace our products because they superior to yours nd africa as a whole ..they world class..they so good that you hate South Africa but you won't stop using them . We don't brag ..we tell u the truth nd u can't stomach it . U only better in football nd size of economy(u can thank zuma for this one). We have the best infrastructure ,health facilities, schools ,living conditions ,no generators ,standard of living is way better than yours ,our churches don't collapse , our tap water is among the best in the world .yo singers shoot their videos here for better scenery , better quality ,better vixens . I can go on al day

We allow you to come and enjoy a better life in South Africa ..now that's tolerance . Reason with your head not your heart

I disagree

Nigerians have a very poor maintenance culture, these buildings are very fine just that they don't take care of them. Do they expect the president or comptroller to clean their surroundings for them?

Back to the matter, it's not a must you live in the barracks, you are being paid salaries just like everyone, go and look for a decent apartment in a low cost area.

What is wrong with that barracks they are complaining about? With the pictures am seeing here, this is just poor sanitation leaving everything unkempt, infact the occupant need to be discipline if it were in the military, but because no discipline in paramilitaries that is why they do what they like, and moreover this is Sheraton compare with police barracks at Obalende and other area.

The Nigeria Customs Service Has the Worst Welfare Package Amongst all the Paramilitary Bodies. It might interest you to know that Even the Civil Defence Corps which is the Newest of them All has a Better Package than the Customs.
You hardly find a customs Quatres with a clinic,a school, talk more of Sporting facilities. That is if you are even lucky to get a quatres allocated to you.Something as little as Health Benefits, the NCS is no longer a Beneficiary of the National Health Insurance scheme,No Allowances of any such.Moreso, something as little as a Coperative society, the Customs do not have. The Early Officers that Made Alot of Money Out of Corruption from the Borders and Sea Ports Flaunt their Wealth to the Admiration of Many to an Extent that the Shortcomings of the Leadership, welfare, and Administration of the NCS is not Easily Noticed by the General Public.Without Corruption Customs Officers would have Been as miserable as the Police Force ,if not worst off.Thank God for the Bribe Money,Atleast we can pay Bills...Heheheee

my brother thank you very much for this article, and do u know what makes it even more worse with customs? Nig Customs earns the worst salary package within all the military and paramilitary organisations in nigeria not to even talk of revenue generating agencies....... Customs generate revenue more than FIRS but llook at how FIRS workers are taken care of, this is my 5th year in customs as a graduate but my salary is still 80k, is it with this kind of money that I'll pay house rent feed my family? Pay school fees and pay medical bills? In this Abuja?... In FIRS 80k is the salary of the least level staff..... I wrote something about customs its in my nairaland page, but they didn't take it to the front page, may be you can help us write something anbout customs salaries, for allowance its actually zero no nothing at all....... There is no way officers will not be corrupt without addressing this matter...... Including promotion too, for the last 5years as a graduate I've been wearing 1 star.. Thank you and God bless you
My Brother...I understand your Plight Alot,i've been there,Infact, its like am a Researcher on the NCS,very Terrible Job.If you take away Corruption from the customs then its the Worst Job to do.Promotion is like a Ticket to heaven,Welfare is Zero,Salary Increment is a Dream, the Beautiful Positions and Promotions and Slots are Awarded to the Hausa/Fulani Boys....But Dont Worry...GodsJudgment will Follow Dikko,His Cohorts and Some Many of them that have Turned Customs to their Village Society and Fathers House.I smell a Revolution Soon.

thankGod people like yoy are looking @ the injustice and are writting for the world to see, Dikko succeeded in buying almost all the media in nigeria so that they won't blow his runs, some of them are even in his pay roll.. Just take a look @ the customs budget every year, the law permits customs to take 7% of their total collections last year alone that 7% is over 80billion Nair almost a budget of some small states for a year, but dikko can not take care of just 20,000 very well haba!!! The number of serving customs officers are not up to 20,000 bt 80 billion can not take care of them Kai its too much just too, pls when ever u want to write anything on customs on media any thing u don't understand just ask ask me here I'll supply u with everything @ my disposal... Or write me on gwabor83@gmail.com... U know I have 2 be careful in keeping my identity as a secret for security reasons... Thanks aNd God bless u

South Africans are good with blaming others for their woes. Before Zimbabweans started entering into your so called epiphany of a nation it has been the most crime-ridden nation on the planet. The xenophobic Zulus have been throwing stones at civilized people, hitting innocent foreigners with clubs, molesting young women and dance unclad on the Township streets for time immemorial. Trying to put the blame on your next neighbor is unacceptable. It is time you take responsibility for your evils rather than using it to put innocent people on harm way. I can tell you those people torched alive have nothing to do with the crimes in your squalor. It's done out of pure evil that has befall that society for a very long time. That is a big shame on your leaders for not taking a civilized way to solve the problems. Jeez! All of you are very primitive in nature.

Nollywood is not about population but about the quantity of productions and the quality is gradually getting better as I have been told. The movie industry is taking on other African countries like Ghana, Ivory Coast, Guinea, etc citizens. With time they will enter your community and chances are your mentality about Nigeria in that sector will soon change. East Africa looks promising to conquer with our films. I know Kenyans, Tanzanians, etc are arrogant and aggressive as South African blacks. They will definitely embrace them with open mind as they are getting more civilized than Zulus by the day.

The reason why we allow your substandard products and businesses to flourish in out dear country is for the reason of unity. As African people granting SA Bantu favoritism may help to uplift them from the Township poverty so that they wouldn't loot foreign African shops again but the opposite is often the case. angry lipsrsealed cry .

I am glad you admit Nigeria's Super Eagle team is completely better than your country's Bafana Banana[sic]. You unintentionally did that thinking it will be emphatic to your points. You are already demoralized by admitting that. I love Nigerian soccer team. Always ready to trash those Zulus in their primitiveness. Bwahaha...

Your standard of living might be better but average South African blacks are ignorant and not organized. That is the worst form of standard of living I have come across. It is time you have to be ashamed of your society failing to meet up to expectations as the most advanced country in the continent.

Go Nigeria, the true GIANT of Africa. Hahaha...
