TheGoodJoe:

[b]I do not see the relevance of your post. Which of these players you listed here was listed by top blogs as one of the best players of his generation? None.

So what is the relevance of such list. Or are you saying because Nacho is Nigerian, then his talents and hard work is irrelevant. Then you are mistaking.

Why not write young teenage hypes who became wonders of the world like Henry, Pele, Maradona, Cruyff, Messi, Aguero, Neymar, Ronaldo De Lima, Suarez, Ronaldinho.

CR7 was 17 when Mourinho called him the son of Marco Van Basten. Carols Queiroz called CR7 at 18 years the Michael Jordan of football. So please keep your pessimistic belief of your race to yourself. I have waited for long for a young African who believes he can be the best in the world.

Any young kid reading this, if you believe you can be great and you work very very hard to achieve it, nothing can stop you. Because, Fortune favors the Brave believer.

I watched Neymar as a young 16 years old kid and all he wanted was to become the best in the world. Few years down the line, he is close to it. That is the kind of belief I see in Nacho.

Nacho, Carry Go.

Icon4s:

Firstly, let me say I am not looking down on u younger generation, some times I enjoy it when I discuss with younger people It also makes me look at things from another perspective.

My brother, no body is a Master in football analysis. I appreciate the fact that you recognize my years of followership of the game of football. Yes I saw Monday Odiaka, Samson Siasia, Ndubuisi Okosieme and co play FIFA U20 (then U21) in 1985 wink

Just to reveal a little of my CV: I have co-hosted Rhythm sports on Rhythm 93.7 FM on several occasions, though I am not a Sports journalist neither am I a broadcaster-just on invitations. I am also a regular caller on Naija made on Super sports. I am very close to so many sports personalities(especially football). For the records, I played football with Emmanuel Amuneke at Adeleye Street, Sari-Iganmu, Orile part of Lagos. Those that grew-up around that area will probably know me. So I also played the game. Infact Obafemi Martins used to be one of our ball boys when we played at the white sand play ground in Orile in the late 80s to early 90s.

I was privy to reasons for which Oliseh did not include Kelechi Iheanacho in the just released list of players to face DR Congo and Cameroun. And the reason is not far fetched from my line of thought.

Football is one funny game. We are all coaches in our own rights. Our views will always differ.

He just revealed very little about himself so that we may not know but I can guess

Olympic qualifier: Siasia banks on Iheanacho, Awoniyi

In a bid to ensure automatic qualification for the 2016 Olympics, Chief Coach of the national U-23 team, the Dream Team IV, Samson Siasia has began moves to have Manchester City of England young prodigy, Kelechi Iheanacho and new Liverpool signing, Taiwo Awoniyi join his team.

Awoniyi and Iheanacho
Siasia told Sports Vanguard yesterday in Abuja that the forthcoming Africa Youth Championship (AYC) to be hosted by Senegal in November is very crucial because it will also serve as a qualifier for the 2016 Olympic Games.
According to the coach, what affected his team adversely at the just ended African Games where the team managed a bronze medal was the inability of the strikers to score goals.
“Talking about our outing in Congo, I will say that the team didn’t play badly but the only problem we had was the inability of the strikers to convert our chances, I hope to bring in Iheanacho and Awoniyi but the only problem is if their clubs will release them. We hope they will but in the interim we will continue to work with the boys in camp, we will continue to work on their goal scoring ability.
“For now we are going on a one week break and when we return we will begin to prepare for a possible international friendly with Brazil in London in the next few weeks. This is to further expose these boys and we hope they will continue to improve.
On expectations in Senegal, the former international said the aim of the team is not just to qualify for the Olympics but also to win the AYC to make up for the poor outing at the African Games.
Siasia equally revealed that he was still open to welcoming new players to the team, provided such players are smart and gifted to the extent that they can catch up with the rest of the players that have been in camp for nine months.
Nigeria will play Mali, Algeria and host nation,Senegal

Who are Ya?! Kelechi Iheanacho

Nigerian-born striker Kelechi Iheanacho is not exactly one of the highest profile youngsters in the Premier League at the moment.
In fact, he’s probably known predominantly as ‘that guy who won the game for Manchester City’, and not by name.
The 18-year-old was of course the headline-maker that day, coming on as a substitute in the dying moments of the game, only to score the winning goal against Crystal Palace.
Emergence
After joining the Manchester City Academy in January last year, Iheanacho already appears to have a role to play in Manuel Pellegrini’s first-team squad.
In pre-season, the young striker gave a number of impressive displays, assisting Raheem Sterling’s goal and bagging a goal of his own in the victory over AS Roma in the 2015 International Champions Cup.
As a result of his strong pre-season, perhaps coupled with a shortage of strikers (just Sergio Aguero and Wilfried Bony), Iheanacho was named in the matchday squad on the opening day of the season.
He remained an unused substitute, however, but made his competitive debut just 19 days later in the victory over Watford. Then came his big moment against Palace.
Pellegrini’s faith in the youngster appears to be well-founded, and his impact off the bench at Selhurst Park will give him immense confidence going forward.
Rising star
Two league games into his competitive career at the Etihad, we’ll hopefully be seeing a lot more of Iheanacho over the course of the 2015-16 season.
He is also, meanwhile, a mainstay in the Nigeria youth setup, having represented Nigeria from under-13 upwards, and is currently part of the U20 side.
He received his first experience at a major tournament in the 2013 African U-17 Championship, aged just 16. A particular highlight for the player was a superb hat-trick in a win against Botswana. Finishing as runners-up at the tournament, Iheanacho was the second-highest goalscorer in the tournament.
He then followed up this success with another impressive display, this time at the FIFA U-17 World Cup later that year. Nigeria won the competition, and with six goals and seven assists, Iheanacho won the ‘Golden Ball’ award for the tournament’s best player.
Then, ahead of the 2014 African Cup of Nations, Iheanacho was training with the senior squad, but with his transfer to Manchester City pending, he was released from the squad to travel to England and push through the deal.
He should get another chance to showcase his talents in the Capital One Cup clash with Sunderland on Tuesday.

City hold back on new Iheanacho contract
By: Sammy Wejinya

Kelechi Iheanacho
Barclays English Premier League leaders, Manchester City are in no hurry to hand Nigerian starlet, Kelechi Iheanacho a new contract.
The Citizens are of the view that the 18-year-old has plenty of time on his current deal.
Iheanacho has forced his way into Pellegrini’s first-team squad and has made a stunning impact to his first team career; scoring the winner for Manuel Pellegrini’s side against Crystal Palace in the last minute of this month’s Premier League clash at Selhurst Park, just moments after going on from the bench.
The Manchester Evening News is reporting that the Citizens are urgently seeking to tie the young prospect down with an improved deal at the Etihad.
There are suggestions that Premier League rivals Tottenham are lurking with intent, keen to steal Iheanacho away with the offer of greater first-team opportunities.
That is a prospect that does not worry City chiefs. And there is no panic to reward the youngster with an improved contract.
His current deal does not expire until 2019 and the terms of it are believed to be in keeping with the 18-year-old’s status.
Iheanacho will be keen to give another example of what he can offer the Blues in Tuesday’s Capital One Cup clash against Sunderland at the Stadium of Light.
He will be hoping to earn a place in the starting line-up with Pellegrini set to make a number of changes form the team that lost to West Ham in the Premier League on Saturday.
He has become a trusted part of Pellegrini’s first-team squad this season after first catching the eye in Nigeria’s Under-17 World Cup-winning side in 2013 when he won the golden ball as the tournament’s best player.

Amoo: Nigeria Will Bounce Back At U-23 AFCON

By James Agberebi:
Under-23 Eagles assistant coach, Fatai Amoo, has attributed the team’s not too impressive outing at the just concluded All Africa Games to the unavailability of some key players, but promised a better outing at the Africa U-23 Cup of Nations in November/December.
“Generally, it wasn’t a good performance,” Amoo told comple tesportsnigeria.com. “We faced lots of challenges, like the inability to get some key players for the competition. Also, the team was depleted due injuries.
“Those with minor injuries didn’t have enough time to recuperate. I am not trying to make excuses for the team but injuries really affected the team.
“We started well in our first game but in the semi-final, we lost to Burkina Faso which was very painful. But we take it as a learning curve for the team before the Olympic qualifiers.”
Speaking ahead of the Africa U-23 Cup of Nations in Senegal, Amoo said the team will work extra hard to claim one of the tickets for the Olympics.
He added: “We are aware what Nigerians will be expecting from us at the Olympic qualifier, which is the Olympic ticket. Now we have to work seriously hard and hopefully, we will have a more solid team because the group we find ourself is not an easy one.”
The U-23 Eagles finished third in the football event at the games. They defeated host Congo 5-3 on penalties in the third-place match after 90 minutes ended 0-0.

Adepoju tips Dream Team to qualify for Olympics

By Jacob Ajom
Former Nigeria international, Mutiu Adepoju has tipped the African U-23 Championship-bound Dream Team to pick a ticket for the Rio Olympics.
Speaking with Sports Vanguard at the weekend, Adepoju said that he was sure the team would put behind them their not too impressive showing at the African Games, where they picked a bronze to compensate Nigerians with an Olympic ticket.

Mutiu Adepoju
“I know Nigerians were disappointed with their not winning the gold medal in Congo. It is however up to them to prove that they are still a force to be reckoned with in Africa. I believe they will emerge tops in their group and qualify for the Olympics,”Adepoju said.
He expressed confidence in the ability of the Samson Siasia led technical crew, adding that they would have learned a lot from their Congo experience.
“The African Games was a good platform for them to identify where the problem of the team lies, particularly in the attack where they create so many chances but failed to convert them. It is important to use chances created. That is the only way a team win matches.”

2015 All Africa Games - Men Mali U23
Imoh Ezekiel leads sharpshooters wanted by Siasia

Imoh Ezekiel is wanted by Nigeria U23 coach Samson Siasia.
Anderlecht striker Imoh Ezekiel is top of a list of Europe-based strikers Nigeria Olympic team coach Samson Siasia will consider for the African U23 Cup of Nations in Senegal.
Siasia has said scoring goals has been the bane of his Dream Team VI and now plans to hit Europe to talk up strikers within the age bracket who could score goals for Nigeria to qualify for next year’s Olympics in Rio, Brazil.
“Scoring goals has been the problem of my team and that is why I plan to be in Europe to discuss with the clubs and players who I believe can help me solve this problem,” Siasia said on arrival from the All Africa Games in Congo Brazzavile, where his team win a bronze medal.
The 21-year-old Ezekiel, for one, has a full international cap for Nigeria and has proved his worth as a top marksman in Europe with Belgian club Standard Liege before his recent move to Anderlecht.
Manchester City starlet Kelechi Iheanacho and Taiwo Awoniyi, who is on loan to German Bundesliga 2 side FSV Frankfurt from Liverpool, are also in the radar of Siasia.
Nigeria are drawn with Egypt, Mali and Algeria in a tough Group B of the U23 Nations Cup, which will serve as a qualifying tournament for Rio 2016.
The tournament kicks off in Dakar, Senegal, in November.

2015 CAF U23 Championship Qualifiers
Bwalya: Zambia U23 will need luck

Zambia FA boss Kalusha Bwalya.
by Phumzile Ngcatshe
Football Association of Zambia president Kalusha Bwalya says the national U23 side will need luck to qualify for 2016 Rio Olympics.
According to the Times of Zambia, the Chipolopolo legend says while the dream of qualifying to Rio is achievable, Zambia still need a stroke of luck to reach the Olympics for the first time in 28 years.
However, Bwalya remains upbeat that Fighton Simukonda’s team would make another appearance at the Olympics next year, having last featured at the multi-sports spectacle in 1988.
“The Rio dream is alive, but we will need luck to qualify to the Rio Olympics. In my opinion, I am confident Zambia will make it,” Kalusha said.
“The tournament has come at a right time when the team is participating in several tournaments.
“Most players that are in the Under-23 will feature for the World Cup and CHAN (African Nations Championship) qualifiers which will help them during the Senegal championship.”
On the other hand, coach Simukonda added that the technical team wanted to give an opportunity to all capable players because the road to Rio De Janeiro Olympics would not be easy.
“It is a very serious tournament and we want to be more than ready for it. And I am happy that everyone we called is in,” he said.
The Zambians are in Group A against hosts Senegal, Tunisia and South Africa and the tournament is set to run from November 28 until December 12 in Dakar.

Nigeria's Dream Team to battle Brazil - Siasia

Nigeria vs Brazil at the U20 World Cup in New Zealand
Nigeria U23 coach Samson Siasia has disclosed his team are scheduled to take on Brazil in a friendly in London soon.
“We hope to soon resume training camp for the CAF U23 Championship and begin preparations for a possible international friendly with Brazil in London in the next few weeks,” said Siasia.
The high-profile friendly will serve as a warm-up for the Africa U23 Nations Cup in Senegal, where Siasia’s team have been drawn in a tough Group B along with Egypt, Algeria and Mali.
The U23 Nations Cup will be the qualifying tournament for the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
Brazil, who are yet to win Olympic soccer gold, will use this friendly to prepare for the Rio Olympics next year.
Incidentally, both countries last clashed at the U23 level at the 1996 Atlanta Olympics, where Nigeria staged a remarkable comeback to win 4-3 and qualify for a historic final against Argentina.

SiaSia we need more than just sharpshooters in your team, when most of your players have alrady gone injured. Just hope and pray they recover on time. But then, how will they be fit in time for the task ahead? You just have to fortify your defence. If your defence is faulty and the strikers are deadly, you may stil concede cheap goals. Go and get us good defenders, let some NFF members stop using that team that means a lot to Nigerian soccer loving fans as an avenue to market players, biko.

Stanley Amuzie, Etebor Oghenekaro, Ndifreke Effiong, skipper Azubuike Okechukwu and Umar Aminu.

Manchester City starlet Iheanacho in showboat fail
Sep 20, 2015 12:15:00

The 18-year-old is making a name for himself after impressing in pre-season and scoring his first competitive goal last week... but kicked the ball into his own face on Saturday.

Making a name for yourself in the Premier League is a tough task for any player, but Kelechi Iheanacho has done well to stand out at Manchester City since joining the first-team squad. Goals in pre-season saw Manuel Pellegrini include him in the Premier League for the first time this term and the 18-year-old netted his first competitive goal to beat a resilient Crystal Palace in injury time last week. However, Iheanacho proved he isn't quite the finished article with a showboating mishap ahead of Saturday's loss to West Ham... booting the ball directly into his own face. Ouch! Luckily for us, and not for Kelechi, Goal's City correspondent Sam Lee caught the moment on camera.

No.. It was not meant to explain his non-inclusion... I only pasted it cos I find it bit amusing...

Now concerning your worries, todays game was a must win for city.. Pele fielded his first team..

Bony is missing too...
Rest assured pele's decision is innocuous..

I'm sorry but i don't think Dzeko was let go-on loan-because of Iheanacho, Dzeko wanted regular game action and City had too many strikers.

Also did any one notice Iheanacho was deployed as a Left back against West Ham?

Do you know Bony was on the bench because of Dzeko. Dzeko was top pick along Aguero because Pellegrini mostly played a 4-4-2 system. Dzeko wanted to leave and Pellegrini let him go. Without Iheanacho in the club, Pellegrini would never let Dzeko leave.

Some fans said Nacho is injured but I do not think this is the case. This game is a game Pellegrini wants to secure the game with his first squad and give him a chance to give some of the youngsters a chance to play.

Note, Bony is not there. I think the reserve list was changed a bit to give Barker and Roberts chances to play.

Nna eh! Me self no understand o...... But really, what's happening? Why do u think Nacho is missing? Anybody pls help coz I'm really flabbergasted.

I don't know why that gut feeling came through when I can't think of any reason why Nacho wouldn't be dressed for this game.............. Except sudden injury? I just don't get it...........

My friend take it easy and dnt hit ur head against the wall bc Iheanacho was nt dressed for the game. Pellegrini went for his tested and trusted players to start d game. No room for experiments. He brought in 3 teenagers after securing a 4-0 lead. Probably want to see other teenagers in his squad.

As i have always said, Kelechi Iheacho is not there yet. He is still work in progress.
