We must follow the cattle rearing of smaller (landwise) nations.

Nigeria currently has just as many cows as smaller nations in the europe of equal land mass (appr.) to Igboland

Key things to learn from this brilliant dutch farm.

1. Making animals walk their whole lives (Nomadism), causes animals to be lean and wirey as opposed to fat and plentiful like western cows. In the west cows are discouraged from walking about and their area is usually limited to assure they get as fat as possible. Cows that are fatter are then bred with fat bulls or bulls that gain weight quickly.

this led to western cows looking like this

and african/northern cows looking like this

lean and materially worthless. cows should not be smaller than human beings.

most american ranchers look like this

and most Fulani nomads are as deprave and boney as their cows

the men are examples of intelligence levels and lifestyle. One sit still and uses limited range land to store cattle, then brings greenery to them, which another one subjects himself and cows to a walk across the whole of west african making them leaner, more susceptible to disease and theft, and hungrier at the same time.

So fix location ranching is key. A large inexpensive canopy with lock in gates around the cow's neck, then pouring an abundance of foliage in front of their faces so that they eat and eat and eat. track their breeding times and breed them regularly.

A single cow is about the same cost as a mid-price vehicle in Nigeria. One man can by 5 cows and 1 bull, and begin from there. Within a decade he will have enough cattle to build the home of his dreams. Cow milk can produce butter, cheese, milk, etc. Cow manure can produce fertilizer, antibiotics. Their skin can be used for furniture, shoes, tools, belts for vehicles etc.

You don't have to wait for 'the government' to get involved. use a fence and armed security to keep wranglers out. Place track devices in their hooves, horns, skin and necks. Label them so that everyone knows who's is who's and we'll never buy a single drop of cattle from the north again.

My brother, thanks a lot.
The problem as rightly pointed out is that some people have the lowest form of IQ and they just cannot imagine things done outside of the way they know it.they think if they don't know about something, it does not exist. Unfortunately for them, all they know is the wrong way everything is done in Nigeria.

I remember in 1990s when i returned from USA, i had told someone that the mobile phone technology sweeping the USA then will someday be the greatest tool of bridging the digital backwardness of Africa. Infact, a time will come people will make telephone call from Amichi to USA. The men there argued so blindly that day, asking funny questions as; where will we see electricity required to power landlines, who will fund the wires on the pole,Whose land will the poles pass, will Nitel have a staff office in Amichi, even if they did, who can afford a mobile phone in Amichi etc, etc. they concluded that "America had entered my head" and thus i couldn't reason anymore. While indeed, it was their poor IQ that was preventing them from seeing what almost everybody else in the world had seen by then. Needless to say, i reminded the same men about our argument later when MTN reception reached Amichi and i called them on their phone and spoke to them from USA in 2004! grin

A similar argument that thought cell phones were an impossible thing is happening here about cows.
The way fulani rears cows and walks them thousands of kilometers is wrong and archaic. Comparing that ancient and outdated way of rearing cows to the modern ranching method is similar to the comparing how chickens are raised in the villages by allowing them to roam about and find whatever it eats,, to a modern poultry way of raising chicken to maximize eggs production and meat. The problem is that a villager that has never seen nor imagined a modern poultry will argue you to death that such isn't possible in Nigeria.

Like i have said some people are just being emotional here. I didn't say that it is not possible but it must not be the Tropical specie-Fulani breeds or else this beast below will kill the ranch owner with this deadly horns.

Besides those Tropical beeds are too wild, just try to compare it with those European species then you will get my point fully.

Let's be realistic for once..

As a non-Fulani with this sort of beasts in his ranch farm, be realistic and tell me between the cow and owner who is actually in charge of the place? With those horns? The rancher is just pretending to be in charge. cool cheesy

Fulanis use more than just the conventional means to tame and coordinate these beasts if not its a suicide mission.

I know that emotions will not allow some people to see reason in this but its just truth! cool

Anyway, let them come and tell me that when my family intends starting up a ranch in Enugu in the future.

My father recently started a chicken hatchery.
He came to the US to learn how to build a modern coup that can house as many chickens as possible. I plan on doing the same even before inheriting his own.

We do things in VERY stupid ways in Nigeria. Those of us that are computer savvy have no excuse in following resident stupidity.

Those are males. You don't need more than 1 male per 1000 females. If the email is aggressive you kill and sell the meat. Since you only need 1 male, you buy a docile male and breed it with docile females so that you're not getting 'attacked' by it's progeny.

This is what the civilized human race has discovered and Nigerian who have to leap over a green 'sewage drain' in their own cities haven't.
Re: Anambra light of the nation, eastern economy power house. by chino11(m): 7:51pm On Oct 02, 2015
Answer just one question; have you seen a cow without a horn in Nigeria before? Whether an Ox or an Oxen?

Show me a herd by the Fulani that has a hornless breed among it..

Let us focus on what we can do effectively and leave those that are more or less self-suicide-mission. You don't have to grow a beast that will kill you oneday just because you want to make money.

Let us focus on poultry, goat farm, piggery, grass cutter etc. Poultry alone gives faster return.

You would be a fool to herd male bulls like the Fulani. Let them have that because it's stupid, this isn't done anywhere in the world except the ignorant portions of africa.

the horns aren't because they're tropical Chino, it's because they're male and because the herder is stupid.

There's hundreds of cattle in this picture, not a single horn in sight.

Western MALE cattle have horns as well

and are 10x stronger and more agressive than their half dead african counter parts. It's just africans are too stupid not to walk for 12 years with male cattle that are completely useless.

The people pictured above aren't business men. They're doing something out of primal habit because their parents did it. They're as much cattle rears are migrating birds are tourists. They have no strategy in what they're doing because there's no end goal. It's just a habit.

in the east the end goal is to develop a business
These are the females of the same Watusi breed i pictured above

which african nomads probably kill or watch die because they're not build for long distance travel like the more muscular and aggressive males.
I only need 1 male out of every 1000 female cattle. Once you have more than one male they start fighting each other and you as an owner for dominance.

Chino, people that know better than you have spoken. Let it rest.

These are cows that south africans grow

Female Watusi (african breed)
http://www.pedigreesouthdevons.co.uk/

The fulani you see have already traveled to you from Gambia. The female cattle are with the females of the tribe back their camp while the male ones travel with the males.
If you want the Fulani and their limitations as a people to be the platform of your understanding of anything in the world fine, but they also don'e have homes or ranches, so you can't tell me it's impossible to have a home or a ranch. You're talking about people that are walking with cows out of ceremony or habit, not business or strategy.

To kill a bulls aggression, remove it's testicles. That simple. you can have 1 bull with testicles to reproduced tied up somewhere and the others for meat as is done in the educated world.

anywhere you see the black man and cattle you will see him struggling for his like with horned beasts that will kill him because he's too stupid to cut the horns off, remove the bulls testicles so that it's no longer aggressive, or focus of herding hornless females instead. Stop arguing what you don't know.

All these will amount to academic exercise if you cannot start doing what you preach. If you feel you know more than me then step out from your comfort zone and get those hornless breeds and start doing things differently so that the rest of black race will look up to you..until then its just an emotional outburst here and there..

Please we need to get exact method used by the whites in cattle rearing, the exact method and apply it here in igboland, did you know that meat and milk are very very cheap in south africa...
We can also add value to it, by having cheese, butter, antibiotic, manure, hides and skin, leather etc. We can use it to employ youths and village women, who will be. Supplying foliages...
Please ignore chino11.. that guy has a congenital problem...

Exotic cows are far better , high yielding milk and beef wise. they grow faster too.
African cows are like okuko Igbo or local fowls, any serious poultry farmer uses agric( exotic) fowls and not okuko Igbo.

USA and other milk_beef producing countries use those genetically modified cows . Just the way you buy agric day old chicks, you have to import young cattle and grow them here. This is exactly what the Zimbabweans did in kwara case. They have more productivity than Fulani/local fowls

I know about the economic gains of the horn when grinded but my concern is the danger of the horn to human life for those of them that are emotionally saying that Igbos should embrace cattle farm. Cattle farming is not bad in itself if we should breed only horn-less specie cows for safety reasons.

I have been enlightened about this cow business today. This is a major breakthrough in the east. While we allow the fulanis to continue rearing the nomadic cattle, we can delve into rearing the female cattle who are docile and have no horns.

We can also rear the bulls basically for the horns and other valuable parts. I think removing the testicles will make it bigger and less aggressive. If will also remove the horn at their young adult stage, we can use for better things and even export it.

From what I've read so far, we can do this business and it is not rocket science.

Dehorning of baby male cows is an age long agricultural practice. Horns don't add anything to the bull , so, we are good to go. Igbos can form partnership businesses for cattle rearing.
All milk producing companies in Nigeria import fresh milk.
I learnt there are breeds for milk and meat, just like you have old layers and broilers for poultry. In essence, you choose any of dairy( milk and its derivates), meat( beef and its derivates, hides and skin), or both
