@mods: pls help me with my Toyota Avalon 98 model. I noticed mild jerks frm gear 1 to 2 a while ago, it later graduated into having to rev the engine so high with little acceleration. A mechanic askd me to change d transmission oil frm the seahorse I was using before to Mobil dextron II which I did and d problem was over. After a month i noticed the gear was slow is responding to acceleration sometimes. The car also started overheating. Sometimes too, the car wudnt climb a hill, I usually change to D2 to move up any small height. But this problem comes n go! I attempted scanning the car, but was told that the brainbox has been changed by d dealer and so it can never be scanned (it uses a Sienna engine), that its only guesses that can solve the problem.
A mecho checked d transmission oil and said its not smelling burnt. Another one said its smelling burnt, am just confused.
Pls what do I do?

Oga Gazzuzz! Pls what do I do?
A mecho said I have to change the whole tranny!
Another one said I must remove the radiator thermostat and run fan direct before I can have peace with the car. I have rejected this suggestion of fan direct for more than 1year, bt getting confused cos of d inability of d car being scanned. Faults wud be difficult to trace.
I drove about 200km yesterday, and it didnt overheat all through, only that its sluggish in climbing heights, aside that, its moving fine and without noise!
Thanks 4ur response

Hello kashif
I have a 2001 honda accord
Gave me code P0730 meaning faulty shift control system.

It's sharp has soon has I engage it on R but when engaged on D it takes about 5secs to engage and when it does it lazy and then disengages on the verge of shifting to gear two. After that it's hard to shift to 3. I changed the transmission fluid to honda dw1 last year December and have covered about 25k kilometers since den. Wat do I do next.

4 bangers or 6?

Updated

Check the pressure switches and solenoids, paying attention to the second clutch switch (it should have a green connector). If they all checkout, you are facing an internal failure.

Does this happen when the car is cold also? You can scan the car. Look for a technician with the appropriate scanner. Sniff the atf yourself; is it burnt? The mechanics do not have any sensors installed in their noses - you can do it too.

It is an intermitent experience, whether cold or hot.
I really want to scan, but was told it cant be scanned cos the brainbox has been changed.

You are stuck with the same dudes telling you your car cannot be scanned, because they want to have you scammed.

Most intermittent transmission issues are electrical. Typical hard failure sets in gradually, and progressively. They do not come and go, once the trigger conditions are met.

I am in PH. I own a Toyota Highlander 2004. I changed the right hand side drive shaft recently and the car parked up hours later.
I was on less than 80KM/hr when transmission suddenly disengaged....! When I pulled up, I discovered that it was only the R gear that was working.....D, D1 etc were not engaging. I spent like 30 minutes trying to figure out what to do cos it was a bit late. I tried the D and it engaged.....but if u go more than 2, it frees itself.

I called a mechanic who checked it out the next day. he simply told me I need to replace the gearbox.

Meanwhile, prior to this time, my friend used his diagnosing machine on my car and told me certain speed sensor were bad...though he is not a professional mechanic.

How best can I approach this?

@Kashif & @autowiz, Guys my toyota RAV4 2008 entered a bad ditch and water got into the engine and also the gear system. The gear oil has been drain like 3 times and still the shifting is irregular, it delays shifting and getting into reverse. Am at a loss on what to do next, Mechanic as usual is suggesting a replacement (tokunbo gear). Am in PH and there are limited trusted techs here.
what do you guys think?

My ford E250 automatic transmission gear having problem.I bought another gear but I guess I got a wrong one as the gear makes noise and delays.. Reach me on 08028266988.

Car: infinity I30 base.

The car has been very reliable. But recently, I realize I have to rev the engine higher before it moves, especially after stops. Is it a transmission problem and what's the solution.

Thanks

A 1992 model automatic toyota camry drives very well but all of a sudden it refuses to reverse. According to the owner the mechanic had tried working it but all in vain. What could be the problem? Could it be transmision problem?

Have a diagnosis done.but I believe a valve body change should solve the problem
