To love a hero, and to be with him. I know exactly how it feels. To love a hero is to be patient, sometimes he will never be around because the world will always need him. He will forget birthdays, forget anniversaries, worst case scenario- forget your name. But it will still feel like the summer's breeze when he fills the spaces between your fingers with his, flashing you his amazing smile. There are a million places you could be, but nothing beats you being in his thoughts.
To love a hero is to start a fire and let it burn you as you wait for him to come save you, but you'll never wait in vain because he's never late. He shows up with your favourite movie, take you along on his most adventurous journeys, show you off to the world and write your name in the sun, moon and stars. But he'll always have to go because the world will always need him.
To love a hero is to fight jealousy. Jealousy green, greener than slime. Green so much it becomes harder and harder to hide. He knows your smile is only fake as you wait while watching the other girls being all over him. Gawking at him like he's candy, they simply can't get enough of him. He charms them the same way he charms you, he can't help if they surround him like ants on sugar, the same way he can't help being who he is- a hero.
To love a hero is to keep fighting. Fighting back tears in the middle of the night when he's not there and you're convinced he's in another woman's bed. Fighting back anger at all the reasons he always can't put you first 365 days of the year. Fighting back the urge to give up at trying to have your own life, and live it whether he's there or not. Fighting besides him when he needs your help. Because he'll always need it. You'll be the first he calls when he needs help. Fighting to be his balance between work and play.
To love a hero is to become a heroine. You also have your own battles. You complete a hero's life, become his pillar and will always know the parts of him the world has no idea exists. Between you two, you might even be the stronger one. You'll be the one to remind him of the lyrics to his favourite songs. To remind him to find beauty and appreciate life's little gifts as well as the big ones.
