“How old are you?”

“Precisely two thousand years. But you humans age faster than us.” She replied. “When you were still a toddler you were able to see me, but as you got older and your senses matured, a veil was put between us. That stopped you from seeing me and eventually you couldn’t even remember anything about me.”

“Until the first day our hands met I had that feeling like I have known you all my life!” figured Sadiq.

“Yes that’s it.” she agreed. “I was just meant to come into your life, mate and leave but it took longer than expected. After we became friends it just became weird to mate with you, especially since you were dating that girl.”

“That’s why you almost forced yourself on me that day?”

“I had to because I don’t have much time left. That day I sent you a message on whatsapp and told you I was in love with you. It was just part of my ploy to get you attached to me and maybe when you return to Kano we might mate.”

He was relieved. What would he have done if she was in love with him? It could have been a disaster because there was no way he was going to be in any relationship with a non human. Who knows if she was even telling the entire truth! What if she was just here to ruin his life? What if she is the reason the seer had said he will leave his family and he would eventually die?

The thought was plausible. In fact it made sense. Maybe if he mates with her and she gives birth, he would abandon his family and join his new family. This must be what caused him to disown his family. But he couldn’t explain the catastrophic thing that would happen to him. Is she the one that will inflict a non human harm on him that will lead to his demise?

“After that day I noticed you didn’t really take me seriously and you might still probably be in love with that Hausa girl so I decided to improvise. It was out of desperation but I had to give it a try, that’s why I came to Lagos!”

“You came? But why didn’t you tell me?” he asked stunned then thought for a minute. “You are Rebecca?”

“Yes.” She admitted.

“No way!” he replied shocked. He had come for answers and he was definitely getting all the answers.

“I just shape shifted to change my looks. I just thought if I can mate with you as someone else, then it would have been much easier for me.”

“Oh my God!”

“I am honestly sorry for this whole drama.” she apologized earnestly.

“And those old women?”

“They are just an illusion that i created for you. I needed to send a message to you somehow but it seemed I ended up in freaking you out.”

“You really did. I thought I was going crazy. Is there anything else that you did that I don’t know about?”

“Yes. There is one.” she replied.

“And what’s that?”

“Your adopted sister; Asmau.”

“Yes? What happened to her?” he was very curious now. He had to be. The weird dream he had about her really got him worried. He didn’t know what to think about the dream. He couldn’t tell anyone but he needed answers, and finally it seemed he has found the answer. But he feared the answer was one he wouldn’t like to hear!

“That night you saw her sleep walking, it was me. I did that to her.”

“What? You went too far! That wasn’t right!” he was angry.

“I know but I had to. I don’t know why, but I just had to.”

“That is ridiculous! Does she know that she is adopted?” he asked.

“No she doesn’t know. Don’t worry she is fine.” She assured him.

“She better be.” he said. “So what now?”

“I have told you everything. Hopefully you understand and would consent to what I need us to do.”
This was it. He either accepts to mate with her or refuse to. There was nothing to lose if he decline, and if he accepts, he was sure a great calamity would descend on him. He only came to get answers and he has gotten them. There was nothing left. At least now he knows that Asmau wasn’t a non human. And that Rebecca was Janelle and the old women weren’t real.

“I am glad you were honest with me. I will also be honest with you; I can’t mate with you. Maybe you will find someone else who will.” he was getting up now.

She couldn’t believe her ears! After everything he was just going to say no! After waiting for him for so long!

“Do you think if I could meet someone else I would have waited for you for a thousand years? You were chosen. Please don’t say no.” though her pleas were genuine and pitiful but he didn’t budge.

He was standing close to the exit door now.

“I am sorry but I just can’t.”

She approached him.

“Remember what the seer said was going to happen to you? The reason it will occur is if you fail to help me complete my task.”

Sadiq smiled. She was just desperately trying to look for ways to deceive him.

“Now you are being desperate.” He said.

“I am not. If you want proof I will give it to you. I am connected to the three prophecies the seer said would happen to you. The book you wrote that got you rich was about a non human, which is me. The first part of the seer’s prophecy has come to past. The last two are still connected to me. If you refuse to mate with me then believe me the last two will come true.”

“That’s a lie. You are just capitalizing on my weakness.” he claimed, ready to walk out.

“Wait!” she stopped him. “Since you don’t care about your life then don’t you care about Asmau’s?”

“What do you mean? Don’t hurt that girl or I swear I would….” he raged and stopped realizing that he didn’t even know how to hunt down a non human.

“I am not doing anything to her. Don’t you think she deserves to know who her real parents are?” she asked.

He was interested now. He calmed down and the veins on his face relaxed.

“You know her biological parents?” he asked.

“Yes. I’ve lived for the past two thousand years so I know some things from the past.” she claimed.

“Who are they? Please tell me!” he became desperate. Knowing who Asmau’s real parents were would really excite his parents and probably Asmau.

“You know the drill. If you want to know, you know what to do.”

And it seemed she has finally trapped him. He would do anything to make Asmau happy even at the detriment of himself!

They stood there for several minutes. Sadiq was thinking, trying to decide if it was worth it. It was like sacrificing his life for the truth. But was the truth worth it? Would Asmau be happier to be with her biological parents than his family?

These were the thought that ran through his head. He was weighing the options to decide if it was worth the risk.

“I think she will be better off without her biological parents. They didn’t want her then so I don’t see why they would want her now.” he decided and walked away before she could know it.

As he left, his heart kept beating fast and thudding hard. He couldn’t imagine what she could do to him. His eyes were focused on the gate. He just wanted to get to the gate and leave her compound.

He was two steps away from the gate when he jumped shocked and frightened from a vibration in his pocket. It was just his phone!

The story is getting more interesting
