Dear seun. I think ur mod were very fast to move this to front page because the short code itself that is use to check ur verification is not officially released from the central BANK Nigeria. I suppose this things be taken off the front page coz anything can happen.

Am not saying the short code is a fake or something but I do know that people that play around peoples data and with the intention of twisting account information can be so smart. What if the person that has the short code has an advance hacking skills that help him to gain access to all that has registered for the bvn. He can now allow everyone to check this information through our network provider with a normal sms fee incur by the bvn customers.

My concern here Is that, what if he decided to make for every one thousand dial short code number from a phone, he write a program that will give a reply to one person that his bvn is this and that, that the bvn customershould call this land line number.

So all of u that dial and urs what correct Is good, but for me, when I dial, the response I got was that I have multiple bvn account and I should call one land line Lagos number. I quickly came to my sense coz i can never drop my information on a phone. I go to my bank next week to sort that out.


I remember last year informing Seun that his site is under attack or something was seriously wrong. I couldn't chat properly with him but Within 4 days nairaland was short down.

As an IT Specialist or Professional, IMO i think there could be a serious problem with this "general" code. If one's phone is lost or someone wants to know ur BVN digits.....one can easily dial this code to obtain one's BVN number.

If BVN is a private number, then it should be discreetly guarded. I may be wrong though, just my thought!

The most painful thing is that, they set a minimum balance and despite you having the minimum balance you can not touch they keep deduction your money, untill your minimum balance is depleted and you start incuring debt for keeping account with Ecobank. The authorities should look into this extortion and checkmate this unscrupulous act.

Point of correction, BVN registration is not closing by October 31st, rather restrictions on non BVN account holders is planned to start after that date.

BVN is now part of the requirement to open a new account and have come to stay and will never leave. Before you open a new account, you will be asked to go do your BVN and with it, your new account will be opened...the same is applicable if you want to lift restrictions imposed on your account due to BVN noncompliance, simply go do your BVN, present it to the bank and they will lift the restrictions....my guess is, the banks might charge a fees to lift the restrictions after you have provided your BVN number.

Sorry bro. The person that brought this up saw nairaland as a easy tool to get to over one million Nigeria that are active on this Nigerian biggest social site. But Seun and his admin won't listen and caution in closing this thread.

The short code is not official from cbn and such it's subject to something that could lead to illegitimate access of information not meant for the right person.

Exactly what i complained to ekobank last week, they were like.bank charges, every month they keep deducting #200 from my acc. Now am planning to stop using the bank cos Ecobank is a scam.. My broda, try Fidelity or Diamond bank

Imagine oo. money was deducted for my ATM renewal in june an month ahead of my expiry time., Yet I have not been able to get the card now. I went to a branch closer to me and they said they would request for the card to be transferred to the branch, I have been on it since August, yet I have not gotten the card. The other day I was told I would have to pay another 1000 for the card to be transferred. The annoying thing is, why would they have to deduct the money in the first place, moreso that the account was opened while I was serving in Enugu state, they are aware I'm not based in Enugu state. The other bank I have does not operate that way, rather the money will be deducted from the branch where you requested for your card. Ecobank is too primitive.
