Looking at how things stand,you'll notice that the most successful people in life are not the first issues in their families. Firstborns have always been taken so seriously,maybe too seriously for their own good. Here are reasons they end up with a little less than others..
1. When growing up,a firstborn can only see his/her parents as people to learn from. In the world we live in,no matter how much parents try to teach their kids,they'll always want to see it from a youthful point of view,like learning from others mistake,a parent would try to advise his child to learn from his mistake,a mistake which he(the child) wasn't there to witness,just a mere story,that child wouldn't gain much from such situations,but having a sibling before you,you can easily learn as you grow,even without being told. Big plus.
2. Taking up the family rites in full or partially as custom demands in most places. Like growing up into someone that represents the family along with the head of the family in many matters,a path has already been set for you as the firstborn,many things required from you. This can clash with your own personal goals in life,it might not hinder it totally,but it can limit your progess in it. You may find yourself settling for less when you could have had more.
3. Being the best target of enemies of the family. Not everybody wants to see a family progress,there are people fighting in different ways,physically or spiritually to make sure nothing good comes out from the targetted family. In situations like these,they say that to get the whole bunch,get rid of the head. The firstborn is the head right after the father,and he is the supposed future of the family,so he gets most of the arrows. He might live through it but it hampers his progress in life whereas his junior ones have a free run. Sad.

With this said,it is not always easy being the first issue,although some still come out on top,it is still generally tough for firstborns. So respect them,aid them.

No. 3 so on point. Exactly what am passing through.

No 3 is soo true. I don't understand why it has to be the first child tho'.

For me, It has not been easy as the first child with 6 younger ones.

*Any mistakes from the younger ones will be your fault
*Parent Mistakes made on first born is used as corrections for the younger siblings
*First issues suffer the most psychologically,emotionally and physically.
*No elder brother or sister to look up to
*Many first issues grew with fear.
*Most first child especially male marries late
*Many of first female child gets disvirgined or raped at early stage.
*Some First child go suicidal.
RESPECT TO ALL FIRST CHILD

The role of the first born cannot be over emphasized, the burden on their shoulder is enormous because they are saddled with greater responsibilities hence they are seen as role models,they hardly have time for themselves,they sacrifice their leisure time for the family especialy when the parents are not around.God himself recongnised Firstborn e.g the levites were used instead of the Firstborn,the killing of the firstborn Egyptians even up to their goat and other animals.Spiritually,parents should always pray for their firstborn because anything that affects the firstborn can affect the rest siblings and if you are a grownup first born continue to pray that has God has made you the head,you will be 'head' in everything you will never be the tail.

Either way, the younger siblings learn from the eldest's mistakes.

Am telling you mehn... I didn't know what I want to be until I turned 25... was having these talk with my friend and he was like I'm lucky... I can afford three square meals and drive around... what if my parents aren't okay...?! shoot... sometimes I hate to think of what might have been...

then the whole family looks up to you... you're the 1st son of the 1st son... and mehn... I've got my own battles...

I just keep riding the waves to see where this life is heading me to...

I really don't mind... if my siblings learn from my mistakes... it's all good... but what gets to me is the responsibility that I didn't ask for that comes with being the first...

I could care less what happens to my fam and look out for me and me alone... I might turn out good... but I can't... Parents are growing old... lol... shii is getting very real... in a few years... the baton would be handed over to me... lol...

I read someone's post above about 1st born born suicidal thoughts... it's damn true... I've thought about ending it all... funny shii shay... My family is huge... grand uncles... grand aunts... grandmas... uncles and aunts... cousins, nephews and nieces... then brothers, sisters and folks on both sides on Mother and Father sides...... then everyone looking at me as a yardstick... then some of my folks thinking it's competition playing dirty and doing everything to win... like I asked for it...

At 14... I was done with secondary school... everyone else rushed rushed children... I did it... their wards must too...

I can't even hold down a relationship... lol...

I agree with what the OP wrote.
but mine or should I say ours is a little deep cos am the first son and I got married to the first daughter. besides, we are having the say. challenge but God always makes a way and sees us through. To God be the Glory and Honour. Amen.
