Jones had an excellent game. He killed all the threats. Neat in possession and passing, acted as the sweeper mostly clearing the dangerous ball behind the defenders that should have been the real threats. When he went high, he won the balls in the middle area thereby nicking the threat at the bud. Sometimes you wouldn't know if he was the right back or left back as he covered for everyone even Smalling.

MOTM for me. Jones or Otamendi or Kompany. I pick Jones.

You must've seen a different match elamps. Jones made silly mistakes in the first half and though he had a better 2nd 45 he is not MOTM material.

He made no mistake. Which mistake was that?

Jones was the one who cleared all balls that went past our defence. He killed all the one vs one. He block a ball that was going in. That was after we carelessly lost possession in midfield and Jones was the last man against Sterling. sterling tried to turn Jones but Jones managed to stand and went back to block the shot. Even if Sterling had scored from there, Jones wouldn't get the blame. It's a suicide to allow Sterling to come at full speed against the last defender one vs one.

I will prefer valencia in my team with no attacking ideas to ivanovic who has ideas of folding his hands at the back while allowing attackers/crosses easy passage into my box 6 ceaselessly. Coleman is not a robot but we all saw how he fared against martial. If you are playing against fleet footed wingers and you are not a natural full back, your contributions in the attack must be restricted. We saw how blind's attacking play against southampton was exploited. Valencia still gave that cross that martial scored against cska, he may not be great but he did well for you guys. Let rooney and co perform their functions, kilode.

I understand you perfectly, but there were instances in this game were even a goalkeeper would have done something reasonable with the ball not to talk of valencia who plays as a winger, I expected more from him in those positions he found himself

He had only one wrong pass and it was not in our own third. Smalling does have such too and nobody sees it as a big deal. It was not even entering his fault as the midfielder, I think Herrera was changing position just as the pass was being made. Other than that he was Immaculate in passing even cross country balls to Martial.

Cleared so perfectly aerial ball with his left foot inside the box.

It was not dangerously. I think the ball was beyond half line and we were not under pressure. Smalling does same every now and then.

You have already marked him for over scrutiny. Not your fault, someone planted it on this thread.

Jones and Smalling are our best CB pair. We have not lost a game both started in Center back since last season. I am sure that record goes many years back.

he did well today though we know he's a time bomb, luckily he amends most of his errors immediately.

Why are these dudes all yapping about the defence/defenders? That was the strongest part of our game today! The ELEPHANT IN THE ROOM IS ROONEY! Why is he being given a free pass? He was the worst player out of all the 22 men on that pitch today!

misplaced passes? Losing possession? Wrong options? Frustrating martial? What sort of captain is that abeg? This was 3 points LOST!

everyone in the defence was good today & it was rojo that impressed me the most. he played exactly like gabriel heinze used to play for us.....

the only issue we had today was rooney. against a team that was missing 2 of their best players, we should have taken all the 3 points.

im not looking at stats but can you believe i only saw Rooney with the ball inside City's box just one today? & that was the through ball from Lingard which he did nothing with anyway, why won't their CB get MOTM nominations? that's not good enough & don't dare listen to British pundits who say its because nothing was created for him, we all know its a big fat lie.

the only contribution i can remember from Rooney today was covering Otamendi from reaching a cross! a center forward elampiro!!!

Jones has not lost a game since March 15th. He is unduly target for bashing on this thread. He was away when we lost to Chelsea, Everton and West Brom in three straight matches after we beat City 4-2.

Contrary to widely held view here, English Media are the principal Rooney bashers . May be you guys don't read online links.

I have not defended Rooney, so why are you sounding this way. Apart from Otamendi and Kompany vs Rooney, I thought they (particular Kompany) did well outside of encounters with Rooney.

As for his defensive stuff you mentioned, he cleared a last corner or crossing apart from preventing Otamendi. That was about the last attack on us and both would have resulted in goals. But that is not his duty really.

I can't speak bad about Rooney on this thread. It's a lesson I have learnt. So I end my analysis here.


Martial was very good but he sometimes over does things and doesn't see a through pass. But he is our best attacking player so we can't blame him for anything.

Who would you have lead the attack, Rooney or Martial?

Rooney suckedass in the forward position but Otamendi and kompany also peformed brilliantly.

I don't think Martial could've done better as a CF especially in this particular game.

Hererra and Mata played horribly today I don't see anyone giving them lip.

Rojo just earned that LB position with this peformance.

They were there. You said their defenders were solid because Rooney gave them nothing to worry about.

Are you telling me that Martial would`ve been anonymous the way Rooney was? Didn`t you see number of Martial`s take ons? He would`ve been constatly attacking them which might have created something different. He would`ve offered something different for them to think about. Rooney didn`t muster anything against their defence.

See the reason I'm a bit displeased with Jones is the fact that he hasn't finally gotten rid of those evil spirits whispering in his ear. He's not yet composed and settled as he should. Jones unlike others is known for making silly mistakes. I'm not saying he didn't have a fantastic game but we could've g0one behind in the first half because of him.
