Story:
I have been married for three years now but
shortly after my marriage, I discovered that my
husband is not what he made me believe he
was. I met him after a man I had dated for six
years and had hoped to settle down with got
married to another woman without my
knowledge.
I only got to know about the wedding
two weeks after when a friend told me about it.
I was so hurt and I needed a shoulder to lean on
and that was when I met him at a church
programme.
He told me he was a working for a
top politician in Abuja as a Special Assistant. He
drove a Range Rover car and seemed to be who
he said he was.
When I visited him in Abuja, he lodged me in an
expensive hotel and seemed to be doing very
well. Six months later, we got married and that
was the mistake I made because when we went
to my village in the eastern part of the country
for our introduction, I was actually the one who
sponsored the trip and even bought the drinks
we used.
When my family gave him the traditional
marriage list, he said it was too expensive and
could not go ahead with it. He suggested we had
a church wedding and later do the traditional
marriage and because I was desperate, I agreed.
Even at that, I sponsored almost 90% of the
church wedding. After the wedding, he refused to
allow me go and live with him in Abuja and
instead, insisted I got an apartment in Lagos.
He only gave me N50,000 for the rent and I provided
over N250,000 to complete the balance.
To compound the issue, I later found out that he
is a secondary school leaver (he had told me he
was a graduate of LASU), and that he is a mere
houseboy to the Special Assistant to the
politician. The hotel he lodged me when I visited
him in Abuja belonged to his boss.
I wouldn't have minded the deceit that much but
he has turned out to be a brute who beats me at
every provocation and above all, I am the one
feeding him and his family members.
I want out. What should I do?

Report him to his family and yours, call for a joint family meeting, let him explain why he lied to you. After the meeting seek the opinion of any of your family members who was present and who you trust. You should be able to arrive at a decision after all this.

Even though this is crying over spilt milk im still puzzled as to how the fellow pulled this off so smoothly.
I know some people go into marriage with some iota of deceit which gets revealed after the ceremonies but this one beats me!
For example didn't you interact at all with his friends or family to be able to guess his true social standing? Didn't it cross your mind to stay or visit him at his own place while you visited him in Abuja? Why on earth will a man of his supposed standing give you 50k for accommodation and you will collect?
I'm not judging please don't get me wrong but I really wonder how these things just weren't considered. Have you no honest friends?

The major problem now is the beating. If a separation is What it takes the beating, So be it.

When the beating is solved, go back to the drawing board with him.

He is willing to go to school? For him to successfully deceive you means he has Good manners, speaks well and he is intelligent.

If yes, he can enroll in part time.

Is he still a house-boy? (Because of the income). I am sure in his years of service, he picked up some qualities he can use to run a dry cleaning business to support the home.

He can eventually run a domestic staff outfit in future.

In my opinion, no man should lay his hands on a woman. If she's an insufferable bitch, divorce her ass, children or not. Your sanity and that of the kids ( as it makes no sense raising kids in a house of commotion) matters than any so called oath before God and stuff.

Newsflash: Ain't no love in so many marriages. Its just a union of convenience. The love is long gone. For those fortunate enough, they are just good friends with their spouses.

A lot of marriages are together for one reason only; the kids. Hell they don't even have sex anymore talk less of making love.
