Even though the change I have in oando is 'small', my mind still goes there... This result is scam. Maybe bids may come when it gets to N5. |

The Facts Behind Oando’s shocking Bottom-line Loss Oando’s 2014 results were to say the least disappointing. However, the negative figures are an attempt to align the company’s finance to the reality of its business operating environment. In its Facts behind the figures exposition on the result, the bulk of the loss in Oando’s books emanated from non-cash write downs on its revalued assets particularly its upstream assets which were acquired at the time oil price was trading at above $100 per barrel. A breakdown of the administrative expense alone as reported on the income statement reveals that Depreciation, Impairment and other general administrative expense accounted for a princely N271.875billion. The impairment charges emanated from non-cash write downs on its upstream assets which had to be revalued consequent upon the crash in crude oil prices in the global market. N’Billion FYE2014 FYE2013 Depreciation 18,897 9,980 Impairment 167,317 858 Other Gen. Admin 85,661 30,559 Total 271,875 41,397 While the loss looks scary, the fact is that Oando seems to be doing the needful by ensuring integrity in its financial reporting via recognition of the impairment losses on its assets . In itself impairment loss cannot be solely blamed for Oando’s scary loss, it should be borne in mind that the devaluation of the naira in 2014 also did more harm than good to the company’s fortune as a bulk of its revenue are in dollars and as such incurred foreign exchange loss on its revenue upon strengthening of the dollar against the naira. In similar vein, the fundamentals of Oando’s business are still intact. Its productive capacity from both upstream and gas business are on the increase on the back of various expansion projects which have been successfully concluded. At the moment, Oando currently boast of a 150km of gas pipeline with which it transmit gas across the country. Its annual gas production will be on the uptrend as more pipeline projects are completed while crude production is also on the increase. The company’s debt incurred for the Conoco Philips transaction has been significantly paid down with the net debt standings at circa $453million from whopping circa $900million. In the light of the foregoing, we do foresee an improvement in Oando’s operating performance in the near future as the oil and gas titan has done the needful in revaluing its asset and recognizes the impairment losses in one fell swoop. This is expected to free it from future impairment loss obligation and subsequently improve its bottom-line. The market has already started reacting negatively to the result but we see a situation where the stock price will end up over-reacting to this news based on sentiments rather than hard-nosed analysis. Discerning investors should look out for this period as an entry opportunity. Best Regards, Research Department research@arthurstevenng.com |

Ronkuns:good attempt to make a bad situation look a bit good.. ![]() who said we will not be seeing more recognition of impairment losses as the price of crude oil falls more to $20 as predicted by JP Morgan? angelo82:After my BANKPHB loss experience 2011 my eyes opened like that of Adam and orientation about NSE changed totally which made me to be better off today. Now even if somebody tells me he or she is waiting to buy Nestle @N5 i won't doubt or argue with the person. Na person wey never really loss big money for NSE dey depend on all those nonsense analysis and valuations. See OANDO that people were scrambling to buy N30 sometime last yr today nobody willingly to touch it with long pole @#7. So it's not a matter of being pessimism but being realistic. ![]() |

PETERiCHY:I completely turned my back to the market because of Union Bank and Intercontinental, but if there was a trading platform then it would help a lot of people including me..........................There was no way to sell off and it was painful...............I decided for long time not to invest a dime in the market until late last year.............I started by claiming all my dividends and the possibility of live trading made me to review my decision............I feel more empowered than the crisis era and I can to some extent take some risk on few stocks..............But still you need to be cautious because some people are in the market to play on the overall intelligence of the rest of us...............At the same time you can't just sit down and allow short term opportunities to pass you.................I have never been attracted to the likes of Oando because of their inconsistencies...........I believe most investors/traders should buy and sell with greater caution..............Make sure all your decisions in both buying/selling is advantageous towards your goals...........The reality is that the business is per seconds risky but also pays for investors/traders with thorough evaluation............ |

Raider76:Let them come out and buy well well. Is it not the same way we see over 75million volume traded last week before the Tsunami. Well Wale has publicly said investors should expect another another FY loss. So i dnt think we need a Sooth-Sayer to tell us what will be the outlook of OANDO in the next 1year. |

The era of sound corporate governance is gradually arriving. FRC sanction: Stanbic IBTC stocks shed N22.4bn: The suspension of the chairman, managing director and two other directors of Stanbic IBTC Holdings Plc by the Financial Reporting Council of Nigeria for filing misleading financial statements has taken a toll on the group’s shares and market capitalisation. A review of market statistics made available by the Nigerian Stock Exchange showed that between Monday when the FRC made its decision public and the close of trading on Tuesday, Stanbic IBTC’s market capitalisation had fallen from N230bn to N207.6bn. On Monday, the group’s share price fell by five per cent or N1.15 from N23 to N21.85 before shedding an additional 4.99 per cent or N1.09 to close at N20.76 on Tuesday. The FRC had on Monday directed Stanbic IBTC Holdings to withdraw and restate what it described as “misleading financial statements” for the years ended December 31, 2013 and 2014. It also suspended the group’s Chairman, Mr. Atedo Peterside; Chief Executive Officer, Mrs. Sola David-Borha; two other directors, Mr. Arthur Oginga and Dr. Daru Owei; and Ayodele Othihiwa of KPMG Professional Services, the group’s auditors. All five persons were suspended for attesting to the “misleading” financial position of Stanbic IBTC Holdings for the two years. The council had in August opened an investigation into Stanbic IBTC in response to a petition written by shareholders of the bank, drawing the attention of the regulatory authorities to some unapproved transactions allegedly conducted by the bank with its foreign technical partners. In the course of its investigation, the FRC said it found out that Stanbic IBTC had violated provisions of the International Financial Reporting Standards in its financial statements. It added that it found technical issues in the financial reports of the group as well as problems with statutory audit and auditor independence, ] presentation of information with regards to current and deferred tax liabilities, and instances where information was concealed. culling frm Cashcraft AM ltd. |
