you aren't to give them 49k,you are to give them 49,500k because you bought the laptop 97',it would only be right to give them 49k if you bought the laptop at the rate of 96k,97 divide 2 is 48.5 plus the extra 1k for each of them is 49.5,49.5 +49.5 is 99 plus your own 1k is 100k.I don't know if anyone's picking up what am putting down.

BRO YOU WERE GIVEN 100K, YOU BOUGHT THE LAPTOP FOR 97K.YOU ALREADY HAVE BALANCE OF 3K WITH YOU. OUT OF THE 3K YOU GAVE YOUR BOTH PARENTS 1K EACH MAKING 2K THEN THE 97K + 2K MAKE IT 99K EXPENDED. WHEN YOU ADD 99K TO THE REMAINING 1K WITH YOU, THAT MAKES IT 100K.

U collected 100k from ur parents and u bought a Laptop worth 97k, so u are left with 3k. U gave ur mum and dad 1k each making 2k and u kept the remaining 1k with u.
:. 97k for Laptop + 1k that u gave ur mum + 1k that u gave ur dad + 1k left with u = 100k.. Therefore, there is no missing 1k.

I've solved this puzzle several times...I decided to let it skip, but I can't help it.

Bro, this is where you missed it,
You owe 49k twice, that's a DEBT
You have 1k, that's CASH

How would you add your cash to your debt as 49 + 49 + 1?

49k was a debt (twice), mathematically (-ve)
The 1k you kept is cash, mathematically (+ve)

So, when next you're adding numbers, be mindful of the signs.

(-49) + (-49) + (+1) = (-97)
NOT 98.
You still owe 97k.
