Yeah it is a very sacred name, but for such level of jazz to work, they will need your first name and surname too.

Unfortunately, it's dying. Even our talking drums professionals are dwindling. This is what Africa gets when it relegates its culture for whiteman's. We lose some of our essence.

Oooh!! Thank you so much for this!! cheesy It brought back such great memories of my childhood. I was never able to understand the words, but I would join my late maternal grand father on the verandah, as he nodded his head to different Ewi minstrels every Saturday morning!

He was not even Yoruba, but he had a deep appreciation for the culture (he spoke it like a native), and listening to Ewi, while sipping chilled palm wine was his own way of chilling out. We would both nod in tandem with the drum beats and shekere, and he would sometimes pause to explain a few words of the songs to me!

I am trying so hard not to cry.... cry

So this thread is dying slowly but surely, no?

When I was trying to make the subject-matter broad so as to keep the thread alive and more engaging - you have got clowns with insecurities who neither contributed anything to thread, nor have anything to contribute - moaning about the thread losing its purpose. Now that we've limited it to one thing - the same clowns still have nothing to contribute. SMH.

I'm about to further expand the topic.

I don't know if the op lost interest and others. The irony about these sort of stuff is that you have to have passion to continue even if you only get response from one person.Same with development. That's why I suggested Yorubas who truly want to help with regards to Yorubaland let them figure out what is their passion and work on helping people along dt lines as passion is the only thing dt would make u want to work hard to manifest ideas into reality.

I think when we say certain things are dying amongst Yorubas we should be clear to differentiate amongst which groups of Yorubas.Isese Yorubas are fighting to hold onto Yoruba culture in its entirety and for that group....I don't think it will die off...for the others...well only time go tell.

I support you.

@ALL

Until we get someone to direct the Yoruba hour (not me, I can't be 90% of the time here ), no one is going to show up.

Lol.

I just had to throw that out here cos the thread's dying and the guy who start the complaint is yet to contribute anything. Yet he came on the thread again today to complain about the change of name. I just don't like folks who are like that. If you have nothing to contribute, then you shouldn't have an opinion. This isn't his first time - he did the same thing on the Ibadan thread. The guy lives in Ibadan - rather than take pics of his own area in Ibadan and contribute to the thread, he was just moaning and giving folks orders on what to do and what not to do. Who does that? grin

Anyway, personally, this thread has inspired me a great deal - especially the profiles we posted. And cos of certain folks that I saw on this thread, I've changed my diary and set new goals for myself, for the remainder of this year. Some of the posts are also enlightening and we can't stop now. We just need to keep educating and inspiring one another. Yoruba commonwealth is bigger than just the SWern part of Nigeria - it's global.

Yes, Isese may be trying to hold on to its culture, but what about the other villages, towns and sub-groups in the entire South-West region?? Are they doing the same thing?

Look at the Indians. No matter how dispersed they may be, many of them still hold on to the ethos of their culture.

Some good things should NOT just be allowed to die.. undecided

For those looking for Yoruba architecture - I believe the Egba were able to build great architecture in the mid-late 19th century and early 20th century in Abeokuta. Perhaps, folks just need to modernise what the Egbas were able to create.

Yes, the pattern looks artistic. However, I doubt it has anything to do with Islam cos I don't think the Egbas ever embraced Islam like that (I might be wrong) cos their history when they moved from Ibadan to Abeokuta is intertwined with Christianity and the missionaries. And the house I posted is the Kuti family house (I believe Fela Kuti's dad was a pastor or something like that).

JC Penny collaborates with Nigerian designer, Duro Olowu

JC Penny recently announced a collaboration with Nigerian-born, London-based designer, Duro Olowu on a limited edition capsule collection which will be available online at jcp.com and in most stores. It was also confirmed in a tweet via Twitter. The collection according to Duro Olowu will retail from $10 to $100 during the months of March through to May 2013 and is designed for anyone between the ages of 18 to 80.

Nigerian-born and London raised fashion designer Duro Olowu will be featured as a limited edition designer at J.C. Penny's come March 2013. Known as the "Mix Print Monster" and a designer favorite among celebrities and dignitaries such as Michelle Obama, Duro Olowu's wonderful prints will now be at J.C. Penny for less.

Oluwo told InStyle.com, " This collection is for anyone, from 18 to 80... Everything has a flattering element, whether you mix prints or pull out one piece and keep it simple. I've always tried to give a woman a sense of inner beauty with joy, and now it's just the right time to make that more democratic."

[b]To start with,I don't see the reason why my absence should signal the death of this thread.I'm only the OP.I loved what i saw the first time i was absent as a result of the ban.A lot of people were free and everyone was in charge.I don't know why the same thing didn't happen this time around

As per the thread title, initially i wanted to stick with Yoruba/south-west title until mayor came up with the commonwealth idea and i asked everyone what they thought about it.If people had disagreed with the new title,i probably wouldn't have changed it because at the end of the day, majority carries the vote

As per yoruba hour, na that one tire me pass, even when i was here,no one took it serious.I loved the ideas ilekeh came up with on how to make it more interesting and i even posted the picture on the first page.
and i don't know why anyone can't go through my old posts and call people out.I can't be here all the time,me sef get job

Some people complained about the thread losing its focus that we should speak more about development and i pleaded with those who were posting biographies to cut it down.Ironically, those who complained didn't even show up.Instead it was those who were posting biographies that contributed

My issue here is those who spend 90% of their time on biafran threads and only show up maybe once in a week are the ones who have the most complaints.I try as much as possible to make everyone here comfortable but i don't like it when people just complain and suddenly disappear.

Shymm3x and ritchiee how come no one is talking about "Internet of things" or is it the same with AI?

Laudate i love you.If you be man no homo.If you be woman and you are not married,i'm giving you a kiss from my keyboard. If you're married, tell oga say make e no vex grin

And lastly i welcome the inductees
