This reminds me of a certain David Mark who said Nigerians weren't ready to use mobile phones. Now see where we are. No system is perfect the first time you use it. Just like the ATM, the BVN will be a part of us with time.

If you submit your BVN in a bank, the bank keys it into their system and pull up all details about you. What will happen if as Mr. Fani-Kayode you present a BVN that eventually pulls up Mr. Lai Mohammed's details? The securities will grab you, straightway. Yours is yours. You can't impersonate with it. That is actually the issue the BVN was created to solve.

OP you a have point because not too long ago a fellow NL narrated how some com men called him about this BVN stuff and sent him an SMS of which he did according to the instructions of the com men, lo and behold his account was emptied. I am going to chew my BVN and store it in my photographic memory.

There is no danger in anyone having ur BVN..
they cant do any harm to ur accounts with the BVN.
Ur BVN abstractly links u to all ur accounts and resides with NIBSS.
Its meant to protect ur account and cant be used otherwise.

Please stop all this trash. My accounts are restricted today because my enrolled BVN number could not be traced by all the UBA managers. Not even with the information I gave them or with my finger prints, then how can a scammer get access to my account. Pls I need a scammer to help me trace my BVN number. BVN is a fraud itself if they can't identify me by my finger prints.

An insider does not need yur BVN to gain access tp ur Account.. a qry on ur name will also give access to ur account.. BVN is safe.

Nice observation, but I don't subscribe to the idea of Bvn not being possible to retrieve via phone. Instead, a password and be used in addition to the code. E. G *555*password#

So this scenario u have just presented now...how will it be because of bvn?.....an insider in the bank can simply get your account number even with just your names,even without the bvn
The simple fact is....guard your atm pins jealously......dont write it down somewhere....dont save it as a draft message in your phone.....dont use simple pins like year of birth,current year e.g 2015 e.t.c,....that is the surest and easiest way your accounts can be hacked......or carry your atm card with large amounts around;armed robbers can attack you and lead you straight to the nearest atm machine---drop them at home...lastly save large amounts of money in an account and do not request for an atm card for that account,so the only way you can access that account is to enter the banking hall,then you can periodically be withdrawing small amounts of money from that account and depositing in another account that has an atm which you can now be using to meet your daily needs

the order of discuss shouldn't be someone accessing your acc with your bvn because it's not possible but the possibity of having someone with a nefarious intent use your bvn number to link a dummy account,don't say it isn't possible as there has been lot of error of late.So I strongly suggest that a more discreet mode of accessing the number be adopted

I don't see anytin wrong wit this since revealing ones BVN doesn't reveal their acct details and secret pins

What will happen when the criminals get your BVN number? will they change your Biometrics? will they change your Picture as captured? or you don't understand how BVN works, its a Mode of authenticating the customer, so if a criminal takes my BVN to the bank and it is verified not to be him do you think the bank will pay them?

OP, BVN does not give access to your account, so even if someone has the number, the worst that can happen is that they get your personal and biometric details, but be rest assured your money is safe

getting your personal details is number one step to get you scamed

So how does knowing someone's BVN become password to his bank account?

If you have my phone, my account number and my BVN number. What can you do with them? Nothing! Till you have my sign on detail and password for my online banking. And if you have both details, you still need my token! So, nothing for you. My BVN don't give you access to my sign on details nor my token. Don't be too paranoid
