In Sadiq’s room a song by Vault; one last night was playing on his laptop.

‘Tied to a sallow heart…… why does he want to bring me where he goes?.....oh and to find out the reason why..it’s enough to make you wanna try for one last night…Ghosts and silhouettes….they want to take a piece of me, they want it all….oh but to wait in an empty room with the feeling that it’s closing in…. I had a dream i was dying but i found nobody there…And if one last night is all that we’ve been given ..let’s live it like we care…for one last night………’

“Hope you know it isn’t good to listen to foreign music?” Humaira’s head popped through the half open door.

“I know.” he released his fingers from the keyboard. “It’s the song Jan…”

Humaira stepped into the room.

“Why didn’t you complete it? It’s Janelle that sent you the song right?”

He nodded.

“She told me she liked the song. She couldn’t even find words to express how it made her feel so I thought just maybe the song was a clue to something.”

Before Humaira could say anything else, Kazim bumped into the room.

“Hey Sadiq come on we need to go somewhere right now.”

“Can’t you see we are talking?” he shot at him.

“With who?” Kazim asked, turning to Humaira and almost immediately she left.

“Well played!” he said to Kazim while turning off his laptop.
“So where are we going?” he asked.

“Remember how I told you that my dad was having financial difficulty and he needed the contact of one business man?” asked Sadiq.

“Yes. I remember.”

“Dad had an informant that disclosed to him that the man is in town. He wants us to deliver the letter to him directly.” explained Kazim.

“Then we need to hurry up!” said Sadiq.

“Exactly.”

Ten minutes later they arrived at their destination. They walked, almost pacing. The receptionist was a Yoruba lady with ugly looking spectacle.

“You just missed him.” she informed them.

“When can we see him again?” Kazim asked frantically.

“Maybe next week or next month. It’s hard to tell. Whenever Alhaji Ibrahim travel out he takes a while before he return.” she replied.

Kazim became more frantic. He knew how his dad needed this letter to get to the man as soon as possible.

“Is there any other means we can contact him? An email or phone?” he tried his luck.

“No i am sorry.” her eyes fixed on the computer screen in front of her.

“Okay thank you for your time.” Kazim disappointedly.

They were near the exit door when Sadiq suggested to him.

“Let’s give her the letter and she can give him whenever he comes.”

“Good idea.” Kazim turned back immediately.

“I can’t take it!” she replied almost rudely.

“Please. Just assist us.” he begged. But she didn’t budge.

Sadiq gave Kazim a sign; his fingers rubbing the center of his palm as though he was counting money. Digging his hand into his pocket, Kazim brought out a thousand naira note. He offered it to the lady alongside the letter and she didn’t protest, she just collected it from him and replied;

“I will make sure he gets it when he returns.”

The two of them exited the building satisfied that the man would at least receive the letter. That was the most important thing.

Somewhere in Surulere Jennifer ranged a door bell, minutes later a male’s voice answered.

“It’s me. Open up.” Her voice tensed, replying the person inside the house.

“Hey Jenny…you didn’t call before coming.” Kross opening the door and standing by the half opened door, but Jennifer pushed him aside and let herself in.

“Why should i call? So you can hide her or get her a taxi to leave before i arrive?” her voice rising violently.

“What are you talking about?” he followed her as she opened the door to each room, looking for ‘her’.

And when she realized that there was no one else in the house she returned to the living room.

“What were you doing with Vanessa the other day?” she threw the question at him, waiting for him to try to deny the accusation.

He laughed. “Excuse me?”

She turned the screen of her phone to him.

“Explain this.” she said.

He grabbed the phone from her and to his surprise it was a video of him and Vanessa the day he asked her for her autograph and collected her number.

“What is this?” he asked disgusted.

“I should be asking you that.” she glared at him.

“You had me followed? Is that it? You have someone going about and watching my every move so you can fantasize about it and satisfy your urge?” he was pissed but he still let out a little sacarsm.

“Don’t change the topic! The question is what were you doing with Vanessa? You know she is my sworn enemy!” she collected her phone from him.

“Yes I talked to her and I collected her number, and so what? It’s not like you and I are dating!” he screamed at her.

Her body felt cold! Like ice!

“What do you mean by that?”

He shaked his head while letting out a feint laugh.

“That day we first met..that morning. I recognized you from a popular website and I knew you were friends with Vanessa. And I have a big crush on her!”

“No!” she responded unbelievably, shaking her head as though that will make his claim untrue.

“All I wanted to tell you that morning was that I would like to meet your friend but you had the impression that I was hitting on you. So I just smiled and left.” he said. She was staring at him speechlessly. “Don’t get me wrong, you are beautiful and everything. I am sure a lot of guys will die to have you, but I have a thing for your sworn enemy.”

“So you used me! You used me to get to her!” she looked more aggravated.

“When you say it that way it sounds awful. I would rather say your friendship benefitted me.” he said.

She looked at him scornfully.

“You know what? I don’t care!”

“You don’t?” he asked, not that he cared if she cared or not.

“Yes. I really didn’t even love you. All I wanted was a connection to kick start my career, that’s why I approached you that night. Now that I am back on my feet I don’t need you anymore.” she claimed.

“Good! I guess we both benefitted from our friendship so no hard feelings.”

“No hard feelings?” she laughed. “Your feeling is going to be dragged through a dirty mud like a piece of smelly rag. You know why? Because the girl you have a crush on is not capable of falling in love or committing to a relationship.”

“Nice try. But it would take a lot for you to discourage me.”

“Who said I was trying to discourage you? Go ahead and proclaim your love for her. Idiot!” she said, hissing and left, banging the front door behind her. The sound was so loud it startled Kross.

“Psycho!” he muttered at the closed door.
