I challenge the OP or the source to bring out the same statistic for countries like France, USA and so on, you would be shocked to find out that the more advanced the country is, the higher the Data. I don't know about the OP but common sense would tell you that there are more porn watchers in the USA than Nigeria. Simple fact: There are more people with laptops and phones in the USA than Nigeria, the internet connection is also a lot faster. Now mix that with a society where outing one's sexuality is often encouraged and what you'll have is a very perverted society.

Look at the bold part of the quote above and let it be the premise of this discussion. The statistic is based on relativity to other searches from the same country. Could this high ratio be due to the fact that majority of Nigerians hardly make use of Google search? Could it be that we have more people focused on social media than actually looking for answers on the net or could it be that as a society we are still naive in regards to what homosexuality and pornography means and the only way to educate ourselves is to search for answers on the internet? Anyway anyhow, the statistic is skewed and there's no cause for alarm, Nigeria still remains one of the more cultured countries in the world and certainly not as wayward as the more advanced countries out there!

You think the statistics are skewed? Why don't we use youtube as an example. Type "popular on YouTube Nigeria" on the youtube search box and see how many porn videos you'd get. Now look for another country that could compete with that amount.

Of course, without this research, one with discernment can see how most youths (middle to aged too) have their minds fixated on sex.

Now, with this research it is a confirmation that is shocking but more worrisome is the fact that we have few mental health professionals and therapists to handle a growing cancer. An average of 1:760,000 is disheartening.
And to think that, due to large undocumented facts lying about; this research has barely scratched the surface.

Parents need a fast upgrade. I think I need an upgrade as well, didn't even know about the slangs. I am responsible for every young person, I have a close encounter with.

Chasing the slangs won't help us parents. We cannot monitor our children 99% of the time. All we hope to do is train them that they know it's wrong. Some of us waited till university days to have consensual intimacy and kept partners in low numbers and others took pride in waiting till marriage. Some men were proud of the fact that they didn't have so many sexual partners and didn't feel the need to prove their masculinity by sleeping around (that proves nothing and makes immorality in marriage more likely).

We all need to support the Mirabel Centre as they are the only place I know for sexually abused people with counsellors. And the sad fact is that Nigerians will view everything through a lens of Spirituality: an ill-equipped pastor (Theology school doesn't confer counselling skills) will be called before a psychologist.

And Pornography is a terrible thing: what starts as curiosity ends up as an addiction and a sudden weird desire to perform unnatural acts.

Nigerians are obsessed with se.x, we just pretend not to be.

In this article, I am going to be talking about pornography – Internet pornography to be precise (and ancillary issues). But I do so with an upfront caveat – I do not intend to moralise as it is not my place to debate the morality of what adults indulge in on their devices, in their spare time. However, as a student of culture and behavioural development, I am concerned about vulnerable groups; particularly children and young teenagers. So, my article will focus on these two groups and tangentially, on women.

In 2015, I was privileged to work on two projects. The first was Jack & Jil Therapy – a free telephone based platform for those needing help for critical sexuality & life issues. The second project was #SaveMirabel, a movement to raise urgent funds for Lagos’ only rape crisis centre – The Mirabel Centre. As a result of my involvement with these two initiatives, I was exposed to a treasure trove of information about sexuality issues in Nigeria. I will share some of them in this article.

In 2014, the popularity of Nigerian Google searches for pornography (relative to other searches) on a scale of 0 to 100 was above 80. (Google ranks as 100 any item that constitutes 10% or more of all searches in a country.) The number of average monthly searches by volume was 165,000 and the States with the greatest popularity for porn searches were: Lagos, Oyo, Delta, Rivers, Cross River and Abuja. The relative popularity of rape pornography videos was also above 80, with Lagos State leading the charge and Nigeria ranked third globally for the most Google searches for Gay pornography. (We were ranked second in 2013.)

Since 2009, pornography search popularity has always risen above 70 every December, save one. In December 2009 and 2010, Nigeria outstripped America in the popularity of searches for pornography – a nation twice our size.

A popular pornography site is among the top 50 sites visited by Nigerians according to Alexa.com. It is more popular than the leading jobs and news sites.

More Nigerians are looking for free sex than jobs on the internet.
No wonder I feel superior to them. grin

Nigeria is a sexually heated society but sexually pent-up. Our materialistic girls are part of the cause. since them don restrict their kpomo from the broke mass niggas while the few yahoo criminals enjoy them in its varieties. Lol

No-one owes you sex. No woman was put on this earth to please you as part of her job description. If any man cannot get laid, it is his fault. Does he complain and blame companies when he cannot get a job? (oh wait, I just realised in Nigeria, everyone never takes responsibility for their actions but blame even the devil grin )

I've met men who were conservative, enjoy healthy sexual relationships with women that they didn't pay for it. So no excuses.

It is this thinking "I deserve to get laid" that leads to rape (she says no, but you feel she owes you because you gave her attention or spent some money or she's a child and she dresses in tights and you feel she must want "it" since she wore it and ran past you on errands for her mother).

On face value this is an alarming situation and it calls for concern. But on a serious note with statistics you can virtually see anything you want just beat the data long enough untill it yields. @op your data ftom google did not in anyway tell us anything about repeat visits. You failed to take into account that a particular vistor could search for more than 10 videos in a day. Which from the way your data was presented may look like more than 10 visitors. Rather than counting content searches while not use a unique identifying? Secondly did you also consider that visitors from the USA may actually have downloaded their own porn and rather than visiting the sites often like most Nigerians do, would just watch it over and over offline, hence reducing the number of times they visit porn sites. Just saying there could be more to that data .

Re: Nigerians, We’ve Got A Sexuality Problem by Nobody: 7:58am On Nov 11, 2015
craziebone:

that's a propaganda!

You know, one thing with activists and movements is this: they roll out stats to support whatever and anyone on their side; and they also roll out stats against anyone and anything that is standing in their way. They do this to shame and attack the conscience of their opponents so as to bully them over.

Thats right. When it doesn't favor you it's propaganda. When it does it's fact.

Fact is: gay porn is not common in Nigeria! As someone who has seen porn before (like most people), i have never taken interest in gay porn; not even lesbian porn have i ever taken interest in!

Another smart thing to do: make a generalisation on a country of 170 million based on your personal experience.

There is a reason why we can believe the stat is false and a mere propaganda for the LGBT movement, who are using powerful governments and companies to push forward their agenda into the last frontiers. First of all, most people who see porn are straight men and the male body does not; i repeat, does not look sexy to the straight man!

Proof? Also, do you have the stats of the ratio of gay/bisexual men to straight men in Nigeria? Cause we'll need that to prove this your ogbonge theory.

So e does not even think of sercin for it! If te stat had said that lesbian porn is what's high up there, i would have believed it a little as two women going down on each other does not provoke the same negative reaction men on men sex provokes in most people. If people tried to google male porn, then its only out of curiousity.

Why do people always use this stupid curiosity thing as an excuse? Next thing would be, "I'm not a pedophile. I just wanted to know what it was like to molest a child. I'm not a deranged sadist. I just wanted to know what it was like to torture someone innocent and hear their screams."

Fact is if you are so curious, you probably have some underlying urges to engage in such acts. I thought Naija guys were disgusted by the sights of gay guys kissing. Suddenly they now want to see them screwing? Makes perfect sense.

Most people i know who see porn, don't bother to check male on male porn. So te people wo did this study did a poor job!

Lol. Like if they were checking on gay porn they'll tell you. They'll be like, "bros, I know I'm in an extremely homophobic country and I might get ostracised or even killed for this, but I watch gay porn! There, said it."

Makes sense. cheesy

No, my reference to an upgrade wasn't in respect of slangs. I meant in education. The slang addition, was because I didn't even know such existed. How many slangs can one put in his/her memory as a busy parent or guardian?

Yes, our parents were sexually reserved, perhaps it accounts to why most are uncomfortable around se.xual subjects and topics with their children.
Even children, well trained have been known to go wrong. Well-trained, is a subjective term.

Very interesting.
Yet abroad even the religious folks have Christian psychologists. It is a study on its own in the theology schools.
Yet here pastors dabble into things they are ill equipped for and when you talk they will say I CAN DO ALL THINGS THROUGH CHRIST WHO STRENGTHENS ME. a misapplication of scriptures.

I beg to differ. I don't believe porn has anything to do with rape. A rapist is a sick demented and evil individual. It is a phenomenon that exist independent of pornography. Suggesting the latter informs the former is taking it a bit far.

Pornography does not lead to rape.

To have a liking for rape pornography you must have a desire for violent sex and possess tendencies to be a rapist.

Many people, even married couples watch porn. You can't really attribute a person's desire for violent sex and assault to their watching of porn.....porn intensifies the desire for sex yes but it's up to human nature to understand right from wrong.

Nigeria does not have a porn problem, we are mainly just a bunch of hypocrites.

What will make a woman cheat with no remorse?

If I ask you what reason do you think
a lady will have to cheat with no
remorse,

Will you have any answer?

Seriously, The answer eluded me too.

Becausae most women are such soft hearted
beings who quickly accepts their fault
and ask for forgiveness.

So what could that be that will push a woman
to cheat on her partner and not feel
any remorse doing it.

Ofcourse there are many reasons why a
lady would cheat on her partner.

Could be for money,

Could for the man's infidelity,

And many other reasons I cant
possible list here

But the above listed reason are far from it.

Recently I read articles on
the pulse talking about different
reasons.

The one that struck a cord in me was
a woman saying her husband push her
to cheat,

because for over 7 years they have been
married, he has never satisfied her in
bed,

Whenever she bring the issue up, Her
husband starts a fight with her,

probably because he doesnt know a way
out like the one below

=> http://www.askmegaman.com/

Ofcourse, she felt unhappy for a long
time until she found a guy who connected
with her,

And before she knew it, the guy was hitting
every angle of her "V" walls that has been
neglected for years.

It felt so good.

And of course since then, her heart wasn't
in the marriage anymore.

Even when the Husband found out, she
felt no remorse because she said
he caused it.

UMH! Na serious matter be this ooo

Well, I have been there before and I know
all the fault is not totally hers.

I love you like a brother and I advice you
not to wait till your situation gets
worse.

So much that your Lady will cheat on you
and feel no remorse.

Take her to the next level in bed with
my 2-in-1 solution.

Lol. Hypocrisy, self-denial, pretense and tartuffery is responsible for our 'profound hatred' towards gays and sex related matters. There are as many gay people in Nigeria and Africa at large like it's in the West, just that the aforementioned trait won't let gay lovers open up and accept their sexuality.

I'm guessing that most of the gay porn views was generated mainly from lesbian porn as from my personal experience with my mates I've realised that a lot of guys loves to watch ladies make out. And for some it could be that they are bi-curious but are suppressing it, which isn't bad provided they understand that not everyone can be conservative towards their sexual tendency and adopt a live and let live attitude.

However, what is surprising is that, these characters who loves to berate homosexuals are lesbian porn lovers. To be fair to them, I find it normal to watch ladies make out too but unlike them I don't go about chastising people based on their sexuality even though I consider it an obscenity.

If there was a way to restore virginity or completely reset one's body to be that of a virgin, the vast majority of Nigerians would have undergo such procedure countless times so as to appear 'holy' and reserve. Any people and society where religion hold sway like ours are the most hypocritical, deceptive and dangerous.

So so on point.

Systems must be put in Place and Parental Control should be Strong.
Thank you for that write up.
Edoblakky:
Nice write up by the OP.
But 2 days ago I watched on TV here in Canada where they gave out live statistics about pornography and America was top. This is a position they've held consistently for about a decade now. The documentary was actually on why the middle east ranked second after North America, despite their religious inclination.

I'd suggest we adopt a position like they do in Canada where a teenager or a minor is not allowed to own a phone with data.
Children may be allowed access to the Internet but with strict restriction.

Then the parents factor - as a father I owe it a duty to educate my children on sex matters. Though my kids are very young, I've already started. My children will not learn such from outside because there is the risk of learning the wrong things.
May God help us!

Actually,we have to notice a subtile difference.Yes,we are highly rank in Google searches for porn but, that's it.It's just searches. The key difference is that in the West and Asia these porn sites are long bookmarked by their people who have access to large bandwidth to home connections and don't have to go to cybercafes. Their PC in some cases boot to porn sites using active desktops. So in essence, it a stat that is flawed or should I say, lacks definitive substance. People hooked to porn would definitely bookmark it and not search using google. It therefore may suggest we are not as hooked to it like the rest of the world.
