More than 105 soldiers of the 157 Battalion, including their commanding officer, are feared missing after they came under intense attack from Boko Haram insurgents at Gudunbali, Borno State, on Wednesday, military sources have told PREMIUM TIMES.
According to one of our sources, the terrorist also captured a T72 tank as well as several artillery weapons from the unit.
“Gudunbali was attacked this morning and some weapons were captured from the battalion. Two officers and 105 soldiers are still missing,” our source said.

“They captured a T72 tank from the unit and some artillery weapons were also captured. The commanding Officer (CO) of the battalion is yet to be seen but no one has not been confirmed dead yet,” the source added.

Another source however said the T-72 tank was recovered after a prolonged fight with Boko Haram insurgents. The gunner and tank commander were injured in the process.

Also reportedly captured by the insurgents eight vehicles, 60,000 rounds of AA ammunition and three artillery pieces.
Similarly, soldiers of the Multi-National Joint Task Force (MNJTF) stationed at Baga, Borno State also recently came under attack. The attack occurred in Geringiwa at about four kilometres to the headquarters of MNJTF, PREMIUM TIMES has also been told.
According to a source, the military has been unable to completely clear the insurgents from Baga and nearby towns due to inadequate equipment.

Our source explained that the equipment recently provided by the military hierarchy were inadequate and were not enough to go round to all units involved in the war against the insurgents.
Boko Haram carried out a series of mass killings in Baga between January 3 and January 7, 2015 after the army headquarters there was sacked by the insurgents.

Although the military has liberated the town, soldiers stationed in the area have come under constant attacks from the insurgents.
Also on Sunday, Boko Haram insurgents attacked advancing soldiers about four hours drive to Damasak, in Borno state.
When contacted on the telephone, the spokesperson of the Army’s 7 Division, Maiduguri, Tukur Gusau, said the commander of the division would hold a press conference on the issue today (Thursday) and that it was not proper for him to pre-empt his commanding officer.
The attacks on the military came on the heels of the suicide attacks on Yola and Kano respectively.

After a lull of several weeks, the recent spike in attacks on military and civilian targets suggests the insurgents might have regrouped after coming under heightened attacks from the Nigerian military.
The Nigerian military has claimed series of victories over the militants in recent weeks.
On Monday, the army claimed that it captured and destroyed a factory where the group makes rockets and Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs).

Na wao. I pity them but is dis d army nigeria is hoping to use to fight biafran soldiers if there were to b war? Boko haram with a few hundred people beats them. Insufficient equipment. NA has insufficient equipment when biafrans in diapora have already mapped out billions of dollars for u know what. This is not 1967.

I am ashamed! The high-tech equipment bought by Goodluck is now being cowardly given to bokoharam undecided

I am ashamed that the real clueless one has arrived and everything has gone from bad to worst.

I am ashamed that bomb blast killed people in Yola and Kano and no one gives a damn where next will be bombed

I am ashamed that i cant find fuel to buy

I am more ashamed that those saddled with the responsibility of securing the lives of the masses are somewhere fiercely doing press up and ingloriously caressing and posing with snakes while the innocent soldiers are forced to embark on suicide mission to sambisa forest with bare armed with sticks and den guns cry

A SOURCE said that T72 tank, 60,000 artillery and other weapons was captured by the insurgents during battle.

Another SOURCE said that T72 tank, 60,000 artillery and other weapons was recovered back by our soldiers during the fierce battle with the insurgents.

Then another SOURCE said that there was not enough artilleries and weapons to go round for the soldiers to fight the insurgents.

Ok.

The military high command need to go back to the drawing board or hire mercenaries who are experienced in this kind of war fare.
Can you just imagine this?

By now, APC will be regretting playing politics with BH in the first place.

Noted. I believe the defence headquarters and the President would take the necessary action. What baffles me is that those people who castigated PremiumTimes and said they were lying for breaking/publishing this kinda news when Jonathan was President would still be the ones who would come here and start calling Buhari names. Hadn't been it was under Jonathan, they wouldn't have believed such news. But since it's Buhari, they wouldn't even bother to verify it.

May they be found alive. Amen!

The same way you believed them during GEJ's administration. It is our time to believe those negative stories to encourage them the same way you did to encourage them to disparage the government of your country.

Some hypocrites said boko haram only go the way of suicide bombing since their god took power. Sometimes i don't know if i'm to pity this military men or mock them. They engage their lives in nonsense caused by elite civilians, knowing fully who and who are behind any act.

Close sources to me revealed that the Insurgents are seriously decimating the Nigerian soldiers, the media is only doing a hatchet job of hiding the truth for the sake of those poor soldiers who are been wiped out in their hundreds...guys we ca never crush BH, the moment those guys pledged their allegiance to ISIS is when we lost the war...this isn't even about Buhari or GEJ been incompetent, the best thing now is for the South to band together, arm up and excise themselves from this Northerners, they should be left to their fate cause we are facing something bigger than us right now...I just watched a recent video on liveleaks showing a BH attack just about yesterday, my GOD...you need to see How this guys used superb military tactics to capture a Nigerian military base, with three T52 tanks, one T72, and artillery pieces in their thousands.
