Biafra is for willing Biafrans, only will ing Biafrans. If in the coming referendum, your people vote to stay with Awusa fulani and yorubas in Islamic republic of nigerianistan, Biafrans will have no qualms with that, we'll simply secure our border tightly and move on with nation- buiilding of the first African Black power.

Which border are you referring to? Pardon my ignorance, but from what you're saying, is it safe for me to conclude that the border will start from the Niger bridge/Asaba or Warri or where exactly? I don't why you are making a mountain out of a molehill. You have a question 'do you want to be nigerian or Biafran?' You tick nigerian. Please remove Botswana from that list. Do you know how many investment opportunities Botswana has lost, due to its lack of access to the sea?? Despite its' better-than-average state of infrastructure, a number of foreign investors have had to bypass Botswana to relocate their businesses to its neighbours - South Africa and Namibia.

Some years back, a Korean automaker wanted to set up an assembly plant/sales outlet in Gaborone. They later rescinded on their decision, and took their plant to South Africa due to the lack of a seaport in that city. The road leading from Windhoek in Namibia to Lobatse in Botswana, is always lined with large heavy-duty haulage trucks transferring goods from Namibia (which has a viable seaport) to Botswana. If you get caught in the traffic on that road, you will hate yourself. The nearest ports to Botswana are Walvis Bay in Namibia and Durban port in South Africa, which is roughly over 700 kilometres away.

Today, Botswana has realised how badly it has been hurt by lack of access to the sea, so it is now partnering with Namibia to invest in a railway line that will run straight from a town in Botswana to Walvis Bay Seaport in Namibia, so that at least it can have some sort of direct access to the seaport. It has also constructed a dry port at its own cost within Walvis Bay, on land that is owned by the port authorities of Namibia.

Botswana, Namibia sign bilateral agreement

The Minister of Minerals, Energy and Water Resources, Mr Kitso Mokaila says the signing of a bilateral agreement between Botswana and Namibia, for construction of the Trans-Kalahari railway line will ensure realisation of SADC's vision of regional integration.

Speaking at the signing of the bilateral agreement on Wednesday, March 12 Mr Mokaila said the project would not only link the two countries but will also benefit other landlocked countries in the SADC region and Africa as a whole. The railway line will be constructed from Mmamabula in Botswana to the seaport of Walvis Bay in Namibia and will include the development of a coal terminal and associated loading facilities at Walvis Bay.

“Construction of the Trans-Kalahari railway line will also open an alternative trade route for SADC countries and add to the already congested trade points to the international market. Coal is one of the cheapest sources of energy and will continue to be of great importance to daily life activities in many years to come,” he said.

He added that the Trans–Kalahari railway line was a key infrastructural development to the economy of Botswana as it would not only open a trade route for the coal mined in Botswana but will also promote foreign direct investment and ultimately contribute to economic diversification.

Minister Mokaila said Botswana was rich in coal deposits exceeding 200 million tones and the situation called for a potable market to be identified for the coal that will be mined at Mmamabula. He added that countries such as China and India were potential destination for the product as the use of coal was still in high demand in those countries.

He called for the two countries to demonstrate commitment to the project and mobilize the private sector to also participate. Though negotiations were lengthy and laborious, Mr Mokaila said the signing of the bilateral agreement is the beginning of a long and sustainable journey with economic value.

“This project is not aimed at producing short lived rewards, but is rather focused on long term sustainability and creating a conducive environment for investment in the two countries and the SADC region as a whole,” said Mr Mokaila.

However, Mr Mokaila warned that great hurdles lie ahead as the project will be completed at immense cost. He thanked Namibia and Botswana for the personal commitment showed by the Heads of States of the two nations, being President Lt Gen. Botswana Dry Port to Become Operational This Week | June 30, 2014 |

The Botswana dry port in Walvis Bay is expected to be operational this week, Botswana Railways’ Commercial Manager Mthulusi Lotshe said last week. The dry port will cost N$60 million.

The Botswana dry port is constructed on land owned by NamPort. The facility would be used exclusively by Botswana Railways for handling both containerised and non-containerised cargoes for import and export to, or originating from this eastern neighbouring country.

Lotshe made the announcement during the Trans Kalahari Corridor (TKC) information session hosted by the Trans-Kalahari Corridor secretariat in Windhoek.

He said the objective of the dry port is to consolidate maritime goods into inter modal and long distance transport flows.

“The other objectives of the dry port include improving cargo processing through coordinated operations; facilitating collection and distribution of local, regional and international transport; and integrating Botswana and the Southern African Development Community region with the Walvis Bay port,” Lotshe said. http://mpoverello.com/tag/walvis-bay/
