This is my first 11 for the Yoruba all star team:

keeper: Dele Alampasu

Right back: Leon Balogun, Mainz Germany

Left Back: David Alaba, Bayern Munich

Central Defense: Tiago Ilori, Liverpool England

Central Defense: Manuel Akanji, Fc Basel Switzerland

Central midfield: Sidney Sam

Defensive Midfield: Dennis Aogo

Attacking Midfield: Dele Alli, Tottenham England

Midfielder: Moses Odubanjo

Strike 1: Emmanuel Adebayor

Striker 2: Obafemi-martins

4-4-2 formation.

Dominic Solanke can come in for any of the two strikers. And Maurice Edu is also on the sideline for defensive midfield position.

Bring on the Super Eagles in Nigeria and it's going to be an arsewhooping. grin

waoh! So you mean Dennis Aogo is also a Yoruba boy. grin
This ya team go finish Brazil oooo grin

But if I should ever create one - John Fashanu, and John Salako should make the list.

When it comes to relationships among Christians and Muslims, the emboldened is true to some extent.

Adherents of Yoruba traditional religions, on the other hand have been labelled as evil, fetish et al. by the followers of the imported religions like Islam and Christianity.

You wonder why Aregbesola changed the slogan of my beloved state of Osun from "The state of the Living spring" to one yeye "Land of virtue". The former slogan tends to promote our traditional religion and gods at the expense of imported religions...

That to me is intolerance of the highest order. Aregbe should be advised to appease the gods and goddesses of the land and revert to the old slogan with immediate effect, for sanity and prosperity to return back to the state.

O ni lati gbe ebo losi oritameta.

Lol....this' a new twist to what's been peddled before as per Aregbe changing the state slogan...not a few people believed 'state of the living spring is CHRISTIAN' (Apparently Jesus, in Christianity, is referred to as the living spring.) and that changing it to 'state of virtue ' is giving credence to traditional believe/religion (coupled with changing the state's emblem to if a cowry, and ori omoolokun ).

this definitely is contrary to your opinion.
I think Aregbe tried to balance the equilibrium amongst the three religions...which again is contrary to Ur opinion

South-west states also need to have nairaland accounts with which they can use to update us on what's going on

Which NL account are you talking about? Can you tag it here

Thiago Abiola Ilori

Tiago Abiola Delfim Almeida Ilori (born 26 February 1993) is a Portuguese professional footballer who plays as a central defender for English club Aston Villa on loan from Liverpool. He started his career with Sporting, making his debut with the first team in 2011 before signing with Liverpool two years later. Ilori gained 36 caps for Portugal at youth level, including ten with the under-21 team.

Born in Hampstead, London to an English father of Nigerian descent and a Portuguese mother, Ilori spent his childhood in the town of Albufeira in the Algarve, where he started playing football with local Imortal DC. He joined Sporting Clube de Portugal's youth ranks in the 2006 summer as a striker, being loaned to Lisbon neighbours G.D. Estoril Praia at the age of 14 and returning for three more years already reconverted as a stopper.

On 6 November 2011 Ilori made his official debut for the Lions' first team, playing the full 90 minutes in a 3–1 Primeira Liga home win against U.D. Leiria. On 14 December he played his first game in the UEFA Europa League, starting in a 0–2 group stage loss to S.S. Lazio at the Stadio Olimpico as his team had already secured the first place in its group. In only his fourth official appearance for Sporting, on 16 February 2013 at Gil Vicente FC, Ilori again played the entire match, and helped to a 3–2 success by scoring his team's second goal in the sixth minute

On 2 September 2013, Ilori was signed by Liverpool for an undisclosed fee, reported to be around £7 million. It was also announced that The Football Association were in talks with the player for him to switch nationality and represent England internationally. On 5 January 2014, Ilori was named on his new team's bench for the first time, in an FA Cup match against Oldham Athletic. Fifteen days later he was loaned to Granada CF in La Liga, until the end of the campaign. On 7 February he made his debut for the Andalusians, in a 0–1 away loss to RCD Espanyol;in the following round he also started, and assisted Piti for the game's only goal at home against Real Betis.

On 18 August 2014, Ilori was loaned again, now to FC Girondins de Bordeaux from France. He scored in only his third Ligue 1 appearance, helping a to a 1–1 draw at AS Saint-Étienne.

Aston Villa signed Ilori on a loan deal, on 1 September 2015

In christian circles, it is easy to deduce what kind of conversation Pastor Adeboye probably had with the late Mama HID Awolowo. She wanted to become 'born-again', or needed an assurance of God's salvation, in order to be able to cross through the portals of eternity, with peace of mind. She must have felt the end was near, and wanted to prepare her mind, for the great beyond. wink

He must have led her in prayers and confession of sins, so that she could feel some reassurance about her relationship with God. undecided Well, these are just my own thoughts. The relationship between man and God is an intensely personal one. It cannot be lived through others. However, a spiritual leader can help guide a person along the right spiritual path according to the dictates of their religion. sad

You're wrong, bro!

The slogan, "The state of the Living spring" perfectly depicts and propagates the insignia, core and crux of the state, the Osun Oshogbo river and the Osun Oshogbo sacred grove, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The river has been there, not only before Christianity arrived Nigeria in 1842, but before the birth of Jesus 2000 years ago.

John Fashanu was an decent striker and very notorious during his playing days. It's not easy to score 100 goals in the EPL, especially for the club he played for. He'll definitely make the list.

John Salako was actually born in Ibadan and he came to the UK when he was 10. Though his mum is white. Don't let his accent fool you cos he talks more white than even a lot of white people lool. He was pretty decent as well, though his goal record isn't that great. He was capped more times by England than John Fashanu (played for England 5 times). And to get that during that era where you had Shearer, Teddy Sheringham, Gazza, Matt Le Tissier, Gary Lineker, Peter Beardsley etc. shows he wasn't that bad.

You and I are like the 170 million Nigeria football lovers that will always be quick to teach a professional footballer on the pitch and a professional coach what to do to win a football match for Nigeria.

Adeboye by human standard is a PhD holder and rose to become an HOD

Adeboye by spiritual standard is a Theologian and as a result more vast on spiritual matters than you and I

Adeboye has a proven relationship with God considering an avalanche of testimonies of what God has done through him and what God has revealed to him on many occasions which came to manifestation later

Now, by our (you and I) standard, do we know what he knows about this mama? Do you know if God has revealed things to him about her?

Amos 3:7 says ' Surely the Lord GOD does nothing Unless He reveals His secret counsel To His servants the prophets.

If the scripture above is correct, then Adeboye might be in the right direction. Enoch in the bible was human but was so perfect that he did not even die. Elijah was taken by chariot of fire, Moses tomb is not known till today, etc they were all human being like Adeboye, so stop being too skeptical about holiness and spiritual matters.

Except you can prove to me that Adeboye is not a servant of God.

According to the Bible, there are certain conditions a person must fulfil, in order to enter heaven. If Pastor Adeboye saw she had fulfilled those tenets as laid out in the Scriptures, would he be so wrong as to say she was in heaven, if he was convinced she had met the scriptural qualifications to gain access into that realm?? I believe he was just being biblical. Every sane mind who's highly educated knows that there's no heaven or hell - if anything, both exist on this planet. The good and bad times.

Heaven and hell were just created to scare folks to embrace religion during the medieval ages. However, there might be afterlife cos all ancient cultures did allude to that and that has absolutely nothing to do with judgement day or the biblical heaven and hell.

There's no "good" or "bad" in life - everything just depends on ya mentality and what governs ya conscience. Let's leave religious folks alone to do their thing. If religion guides them to be righteous and embrace humanity, who are we to critique their choice? It's all about loving humanity.

I'm not an atheist - I do believe in the most high, supreme being, and the maker. But I believe we all should just allow everyone do whatever they want to do, if enhancing humanity is the nucleus of their beliefs.

And the man of God is not using any power to determine who gets to heaven, he was just using the criteria set out in the Scriptures (which any individual must obey in order to make heaven), to arrive at a conclusion about the person's destination.

There are several things I'd wish for this thread to deviate from, and I believe we've discussed one of them at the onset of the thread:

Allocating a large amount of the thread's content to non-Yorubas, esp when unnecessary.

You talk about other groups, they will come in.

If possible, let's minimize talking about romanis, fla.the.ad or whatnot. It takes essence away from the thread.

Honestly, it makes the thread boring after a while. Let's allocate much of our time to discussing Yoruba and Yorubaland.

If care is not taken, this thread will become a war zone.
