if we go by your experience mantra, then the super Eagles with more experienced players should win the U23 team you listed

Lol! But Look at d defense line I listed. That is the Super Eagles defense line na. The defense line currently in Senegal are grossly inadequate and inexperienced.

Victor Osimhen was fantastic at U17. But comparing him with Imoh Ezekiel haba. U saw Imoh play at Europa league with Anderlecht last night.Osimhen needs time to mature, he jst 16. In this team we need players hu are playing at that level. Football at the Olympics level is very close to d senior world cup. Remember 3 senior team players are allowed. My sister experience/exposure matters a lot in football.

Nice team but I don't think we need Ambrose and Balogun in the team. We already have experience players for that position e.g Kenneth Omerue, Williams Troost-Ekong and Tiago Ilori. Even the likes of Manuel Akanji, Derek Osadebe, Moses Odubanjo, Elohor Ekpolo (Barcelona) and Dominic Iorfa (Wolverhampton) are all equally good enough to play in the defense.

Most or all of those guys u listed here are U23. And some are nt even carrying Nigerian passports. We still need over aged players.

Will Siasia strike Gold in Africa again?

Siasia

Ten years ago after he led Nigeria to win the African Youth Championship in Cotonou, Samson Siasia is on the cusp of becoming a champion coach at U23 level on the continent.

The 48-year-old Siasia has during this past 10 years led Nigeria to the final of the 2005 FIFA U20 World Cup as well as the final of the 2008 Beijing Olympics.

On both occasions, only the genius of Lionel Messi and Angel de Maria both of Argentina had denied his team historic victories.

Even before the U23 AFCON kicked off on November 28 in Dakar, Siasia, nicknamed ‘Eusebio’ in his playing days after the legendary Portugal World Cup star, had hogged the headlines after his aged mother was kidnapped in his village in oil-rich southern Nigeria.

His family had to cough out a ransom for his mother to regain her freedom.

On Wednesday, he led his Dream Team VI to upset hosts and favourites Senegal to qualify for next year’s Rio Olympics as well as the final of the U23 AFCON.

He will be up against a team who held them to a scoreless draw in a group game and who many believe are the most complete team in Senegal.

The North Africans, who like Nigeria crashed out in the group stage of the inaugural U23 AFCON in Morocco four years ago, have scored five goals and let in only a goal thus far in Senegal.

Zinedine Ferhat, Meziane Ben Tharham and Oussama Darfalou, who scored with a clever lob in the semi-final against South Africa, have shone on their latest campaign.

“Algeria are most probably the best team in this tournament going by their impressive record – five goals scored and one against,” admitted Nigeria defender Zaharadeen Bello.

“We watched their video before our group game and we will watch that game on video again before the final.

“They not only have a good defence, but also a good attack with their No.7 (Ferhat), No. 10 (Meziane) and No. 9 (Darfalou) very important players, but we have the players to shut them out on Saturday.”

Nigeria’s confidence has been further boosted with the return of suspended skipper Azubike Okechukwu as well as Germany-based striker Taiwo Awoniyi, who missed the semi-final against Senegal on account of an ankle injury.

However, the team’s most dangerous attacking option Stanley Dimgba will again not be available for selection after he suffered an ankle injury in a 2-2 draw with Egypt.

Siasia’s team have shown great character despite going without any cash right from a 10-day pre-tournament training camp in the Gambia last month.

They raised a lot of concerns after they capitulated in the second half of their first two Group B matches against Mali and Egypt, but they have since posted two clean sheets thereafter with Enugu Rangers goalkeeper Emmanuel Daniel emerging as one of the team’s stars especially after his eye-catching display against the home team in midweek.

Warri Wolves midfielder Etebo Oghenekaro, who has scored three goals from the penalty spot in Senegal, has been another consistent top performer for the Dream Team.

His class will again be crucial for Nigeria on Saturday as it was against Senegal on Wednesday.

Algeria U-23 eye “icing on the cake”

Algeria U-23 have booked their ticket for Rio
After booking their spot at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio, Algeria U-23 have set their sights on the continental trophy at the 2015 Africa U-23 Cup of Nations.

The North Africans, who will face Nigeria in the final showdown in Dakar on Saturday, put an end to a 35-year Olympic drought after getting past South Africa in the semifinals, with Oussama Darfalou and Mohamed Benkhemassa finding the back of the net either side of half-time to hand Pierre André Schurmann’s men a deserved 2-0 victory.

“Our target was to win this game and reach the final. We managed to open the scoring, which helped us a lot,” Algeria defender Ayoub Abdelaoui told Le Buteur.

“We proved that we are determined to go all the way. Algeria have not been at the Olympic Games for the past 35 years, and today we made history.

“We have reached our first objective, we are in the final and will go to Rio.

“This final is our second objective, and if we win it will be the icing on the cake.”

The game will kick off at Stade Léopold Sédar Senghor at 21h00 CAT on Saturday.

Rufai: I’m Confident Nigeria Will Win U-23 AFCON Trophy

By Sab Osuji:

Peter Rufai, a former Super Eagles goalkeeper has voiced his optimism that Samson Siasia's Dream Team will overcome Algeria on Saturday in the final of the 2015 CAF U-23 AFCON and win the trophy for the first time, Completesportsnigeria.com reports.

Rufai told Completesportsnigeria.com that his confidence stemmed from the fact that the Nigerian team have raised their game and that Coach Siasia is an attacking minded coach.

"Siasia has played against several other teams in the competition, including this same Algeria and knows how they play. So he can vary his attacking options", offers Rufai who is called 'Dodo Mayana' by his admirers.

"Siasia is an attacking minded coach, the team has improved in their performances so far in the competition and having met Algeria earlier in the group phase and known how they play, I've no doubt the dream Team will win.

"I'm very confident about that, they are no longer under pressure since they have gotten the Olympics ticket so they can settle down and play and enjoy their normal game," Rufai explains.

Saturday's U-23 AFCON final at the Sedar Senghor Stadium, Dakar, Senegal, will be the third meeting between the two countries.

In 2011 in Tanger, Morocco, Nigeria prevailed 4-1 in the last group A match of the inaugural edition of the CAF U-23 AFCON, with goals from Raheem Lawal who scored a brace while Uchechi Daniel completed the rout three minutes before the final whistle.

The two sides crossed each other's path in the final Group B match of the ongoing 2015 U-23 AFCON in Senegal which ended on a scoreless.

Nigeria: Siasia Promises Different U-23 Eagles, Welcomes Back Captain

By Christian Okpara With Agency Reports

National U-23 football team coach, Samson Siasia, has promised to work on his team's midfield to get them in top order before they face Algeria in the final game of the on-going African U-23 Nations Cup in Dakar, Senegal.

Siasia admitted that his boys were lucky in their 1-0 defeat of Senegal on Wednesday, adding, however, that fans will see a different Nigeria on Saturday.

Nigeria beat Senegal 1-0 courtesy of an Oghenekaro Etebo penalty, while Algeria bashed South Africa 3-1 in the second semifinal.

The final will hold in Dakar on Saturday by 7.00 p.m. local time.

Siasia confessed during the post match conference on Wednesday that "I think the 'gods of football' were with my team today because Senegal created most of the chances but they failed to score.

"Emmanuel Daniel (Goalkeeper) kept us in the match as he made some brilliant saves today. On another day, we could've been embarrassed."

He said the win has achieved "our objective, which was to qualify for the Olympics," adding that they will now plan for the game against Algeria, which would be a repeat of the group game against the same North Africans five days ago.

Algeria held Nigeria to a goalless draw in Group B game.

Siasia explained that his team was hampered by injuries to some of his key players and the suspension of team captain, Azubuike Okechukwu, who will be available for the final game.

Also looking forward to a better outing on Saturday is stand-in captain scorer, Oghenekaro Etebo, who says they would approach the game against Senegal as if it was the most important match of their lives.

The Warri Wolves forward, who stood in for suspended skipper of the side, Azubuike Okechukwu against Senegal, said winning the trophy is now the team's focus after booking their ticket to the Olympics.

"We have achieved our number one objective which is to qualify for the Olympics.

"Now, we have a chance of becoming the best side at this level in Africa, hopefully we will beat Algeria on Saturday," he said.

How can an average player break into Sporting Lisbon first team? A team currently topping the Portuguese league.

How can an average player play regularly for a team(Bordeaux) that defeated PSG last season, and a team currently playing in the EUROPA league?

Remember, these leagues are not in the same category with the leagues Omerue and Ndidi are currently playing.

Ndidi has not even broken into the first team yet you rate him above players(Tiago and Chuks) playing regularly.

Aigbogun praises Dream Team VI
By: Tunde Liadion

• Congratulates Etebo too

Warri Wolves head coach, Paul Aigbogun has hailed the Dream Team VI and one of his players, Oghenekaro Etebo whose goal has taken Nigeria to the 2016 Rio Olympics football event after they stopped hosts, Senegal 1-0 in the semi-final of the CAF AFCON played on Wednesday in Dakar.

Aigbogun, who guided the Seasiders to second on the league table with 66 points from 38 matches to secure a CAF Champions League ticket for the club told SportingLife that Etebo is one of his assets in Warri Wolves and plans to launch the players better in the Champions League next year.

He said Etebo’s goal which came from the penalty spot in the 75th minute has gone a long way to silence some Nigerians, who thought that the team would never make it to the final against Senegal.

Aigbogun disclosed that the Dream Team VI qualification for the Olympics is a victory that is worthy of commendation by the country and the organisers of the league, the League Management Company(LMC) for producing the team made up of majorly home base team.

Aigbogun told SportingLife:“I am extremely happy to hear this. Etebo is a very good player and the Dream Team VI too have done Nigerians proud in Senegal. They should hold on to win the title on Saturday because that is what they deserve at this point.

The Delta born Britain trained coach, however, cautioned the team against complacency adding that anything order than the title on

Saturday won’t be accepted by Nigerians.

Aigbogun is presently in the England to re-unite with his family whom he has been away from since the beginning of the season in March this year.

Ramon Azeez broke into Almeria first team and even went ahead to claim starting shirt in most of their league games. What little Messi could not do.

It was not his fault that Keshi played him in the wrong position. He played him as a second Striker while he's actually a defensive midfielder.

As you can see, it is not his fault.

Ighalo got no experience more than Martins. You said that yourself (that Ighalo is not experienced).

Onazi is an asset but the system is what I am looking at. If you watched Coach Siasia's training sessions, like the one in Port Harcourt, he drills his teams a lot on keeping possession.

That is Siasia's philosophy and that position deserves the forst consideration. Any true follower of Nigerian football knows Mikel is up there with the best Nigerian to play that role.

The best of Mikel came under Coach Siasia because the coaches style suited Mikel.

Mikel should come in first. Nwobodo is the young cover for Mikel. Remember Nigeria vs South Korea at the 2005 U20 when Siasia removed Mikel and the team lost team work coordination.

The second overage player I tip is Hope Akpan. I know Onazi is brilliant and a tireless worker. He is like an engine but a player who can sit back and shield the defence is more important for the team to excel possessively.

Hope Akpan does this to a perfection. Since Sani Kaita. That is one defensive midfielder I have seen who just wants to protect the back four and give the creative players a chance to shine.

My over age picks are Mikel and Hope Akpan. To boost our midfield cohesiveness and reduce the loss of possession through faulty strong of passes.

I think the central midfield and the defensive midfield as the region that needs the most maturity and experience.

Quite insightful.

U pick hope Akpan ahead of Onazi. So hu would b ur 3rd over aged player?A striker or a defender?

If they don't want, they will be the greatest losers because with Nigeria they can have the chance to play and win in an Olympic games, Win Nations Cup, play in FIFA Confederations Cup and also play in FIFA World Cup.

I would have gone for a defender but none of them catches my attention. None of our Senior defenders is skillful enough on the ball for me.

It should be a senior defender or a Goal keeper but Daniel deserves the chance in the spotlight. As for the attack, that place belongs to Success.

The third over age player needs thinking. I need time for that one but the defence needs more experienced players than the attack.

allnigeriasoccer.com.

“Esperance showed interest in me and they have spoken to my dad. It is now left for them to contact my club, maybe next week they will do that.

“I have not been recognized in Nigeria so I want to play outside Nigeria to get recognized.”

A departure from Akwa United has been on the cards for some time now but the Uyo team failed to sanction Namso Edo’s loan move to Enyimba before the start of last season.

The Mass Communication graduate of the University of Uyo has played non stop at Akwa United for the past four years.

This guy has been making good waves in the Dutch Eredivisie, don't just know why he hasn't caught the eyes of our youth Coaches over the years.

He is still young though above the Olympic age, but can still feature among the over aged players.

FIFA U17 World Cup hotshot Victor Osimhen is pushing for his first start at the U23 AFCON in Senegal come Saturday’s final against Algeria.

Both Taiwo Awoniyi and Kufre Ebong have failed to impress playing alongside Junior Ajayi in the Nigeria strike force and it is looking more likely now that coach Samson Siasia may throw 17-year-old Osimhen into the deepend in Saturday’s U23 AFCON final against Algeria.

A top team official disclosed: “Osimhen is now being considered to partner Junior Ajayi upfront especially after what he showed when he came in against Senegal in the semi-final. It was his header into the box that led to the mix-up between the goalkeeper and defender, which then led to the penalty from which Etebo (Oghenekaro) scored the match winner.”

Osimhen, who set a new goals record at the U17 World Cup in Chile last month when he scored 10 goals, was a last-minute replacement for Granada striker Isaac Success.

The youngster, who has been much sought after by some of Europe’s top clubs, has made two second half substitute appearances in Senegal.

He himself has said it would be something special to find the back of the net in Saturday’s championship final in Dakar.

“I’m delighted to be part of the squad who qualified Nigeria to the Rio Olympics,” he said.

“It will be extra special to score in the final.”

That same Ramon Azeez that was hyped into the 2014 WC team. What has done since after that world cup? And if we need an overaged striker it will definitely nt b Martins but Ighalo.
