@Op Can you properly embed the video?

Seun, Lalasticlala can this be put on front-page? At least people can get a better feel of what really transpired that day.

While not absolving the Army of excessive use of force, it does show that there could have been a better outcome had things been handled differently

Having watched this video, the so called shiite deserve their untimely death. It was an open suicide.

I can bet my life on this, UK and US military would have killed more in a similar situation. Let black communities in US tell you what they have been through during protest with a common US police.

Let Irish people in Northern Ireland tell you what their experiences were with British army on their streets during IRA-British confrontation.

No police in US will stand you holding a cutlass or any weapon for few minutes after few warnings; US police will kill you in broad day light in a similar situation in which Nigeria Army found themselves.

As a Muslim, I must be truthful all the time. It was a completely avoidable event. The Shiite brothers must recognize that Nigeria as an entity is multifaceted, multireligious, and multiethnic. We should all learn to practice our religion within the laws of the country we are.
They had no rights to block the major roads in any town. If every religion did that, there will be chaos everywhere.
The general who spoke with the Shiites in the video was very very matured. He shed his powers to try to reason at the level of an ordinary Nigerian citizen. Imagine it was a pregnant woman on the way to hospital, or an injured accident victim being rushed to hospital. You simply cannot block the road like that.
I watched PressTV try to rubbish the whole incident with falsehoods and one sided stories. A pity they went so much overboard that they became liars.
Securitywise, it is very very unsafe for the convoy of the COAS to be held up. He escaped ambush recently by BH, and anyone in that crowd could have intentions to attack the COAS and actually carry out the threat. I believe the Iranians condemning the army will not really tolerate Ayatollah Khomeini's convoy being held up in a hostile environment.

you dey mind dem ..some even said they didn't have any weapon on them that millitary started killing them for no reason ..

Its standard practise all over the world for force, no weapon is small weapon as long as it can kill.. So kill before he kills you.
Most of the weapons they brandish have already been soaked in poison ..

Soon the mumu amnesty international will start tormenting our military ..

Are you kidding me? Defer his engagement because of what angry that some religious fanatics were doing procession, on a federal Road for that matter. I was very sympathetic on this shiites issue, till I saw this clip, it is utterly preposterous. There is something with Muslims and stubbornness, why not make way, let the COAS and his entourage pass, then continue with your bloody procession, it is only a f00l that argues with an Armed man, talkless, our Military Men i.e going by their antecedents. They shiite guys were wielding sticks and cutlasses, some with Masks, shouting "Allahu Akbar" in front of the COAS undecided even after pleas from the Brigadier General for them to clear the road undecided

It's like you've not mingled with these soldiers to see how they protect their senior officers.

RealSleek:
But come to think of it o, why are they always shouting Allahu akbar when kasala wan burst??.....because in our church we only shout Halleluyah when we want to praise God and when we are happy

I tell you those guys are so deeply blinded by their religion. Extremists have turned that word 'Allahu Akbar' into an explosive sentence, like Allahu Akbar!! Next thing u hear is BOOM!!

Thank God for videos, for those of us quick to jump to conclusion that the army attacked defenseless people it is now clear these people wanted the carnage they got from the NA. How can you block the army with cutlass, bow and arrow and stick while insisting on your right to block a federal highway
he (coas) even came down to beg them with God, for several minutes
this is the NA we are talking about o, currently fighting deadly boko boys, yet u try to humiliate the coas, damn this was mass suicide
I hope biafra boys are watching this o, we know you are on Christmas break when you resume u ma go and confront army you hia!

The soldiers are supposed to be battle ready and always ready to defend Nigeria territory.

No one know exactly how this started. But believe me, this soldiers would have firstly approached them even before tbis video was shot. Remember the pictures Ibnsultan released. The Army chief was with the protesting youth pleading for pass. The picture reveal some pleas were made and the protesters rejected the plea. This rises to soldiers forming wall. A look at the beginning of the video shows that the soldiers formed a wall protecting their convoy. This video is indeed showing second attempt by the soldiers to plea to the protesters.

The soldiers have done their best and are nowhere to be blame here. This protesters had on them weapons and are ready to attack. Think about it. If these gallant men were posted to defend you, will you be happy if some miscreants block your way and threatened you with stick, clubs, bow and arrow while your soldiers watch without doing anything. These nuisance even have cutlass with them. This is enough threat signal and enough reason for attack. The best form of defence is attack. I think they did a great job there

Absolutely.
The same people trying to blame the Soldiers would have been the ones to mock them if they've have been killed by those matchete and arms bearing miscreants.
Soldiers are not exactly trained to be civil, they are trained to be aggressive and kill if need be in the process of defending the integrity and sovereignty of Nigeria and the COAS is one of the symbol of Nigerian sovereignty .

This video sums it up for me.
I am amazed at how Nigerians in this 21st century would support the carnage by the NA.
there is nothing whatsoever in that video that justifies the killing of these civilians and even if we can justify that, what about the massacre that followed at the residence of the sect leader and the eventual destruction of the place?
For goodness sake, where in the world do you disperse an angry mob with live ammunition? and to think that so many are silent or even support this is just beyond me.

Look at the attached video I just quoted, this incident happened in China in the 80's just imagine a civilian standing in the way of a convoy of military tanks, also notice he even climbs on top of one of the tanks in defiance. this act would have been interpreted as an assassination attempt by our dear NA, in fact that man would have been gunned down instantly.

I give up man! I give up!!

Wrong!!!

there are rules of engagement and soldiers are deployed for peace keeping and monitoring operations.

Do you mean in a UN operation Nigerian soldiers will slaughter their hosts when they protest?

Do you know it's illegal to use or deploy soldiers for internal operations without legal backing?

Bros why would you support stupidity. usually when a protest is not carried out peaceful and causes obstruction to the public; officers are sent to disperse them forcefully. An owanbe is a party (jollification) which the police are sometimes informed and sometimes part take in it.There are always instances where owanbe move out of the way once called upon too. But Why in the world would some group block government road, resist and not face government might. You clearly didn't observe the video properly they saw troops carrying guns and they were picking stones, showcasing sticks and cutlasses. Why didn't they use one side of the road. Nigeria security issues is very delicate at the moment and measures are taken to handle situations which the Coast did. Tomorrow some idiots will block third mainland bridge and say they are have a program and we all clap for them because we want to be civilized . Maybe next time invite them to your street.... The video you attached was one man's view on things and he was without any form of weapon and clearly could be a nut case. Children watching their parent display stupidity lessons for tomorrow leaders...One Love

In the situation those guys found themselves, the rule of engagement is clear, do everything to protect yourselves and superior out of arms way..
I tell you, if this affront on the military by arms wielding thugs was in a place like Maiduguri, you would have been counting the deads in thousands.
They were not deployed for any operation, they were on the convoy of the COAS, which he is fully entitled to.
You guys are downplaying the serious breach of security and act of aggression of those thugs while ascribing the whole blame to the military guys.

The nigerian army conducted itself professionally.
Those guys weren't on a peaceful procession. Those were unruly miscreants that posses threat to society.

Blocking the road is illegal enough. But the fact you refuse to address is that these sects member had weapons on them. They had bow and arrows, machetes, clubs and sticks and this is a security threat which the army have no other option than to respond to.
