took GRE at JKK yesterday. V152 : Q149, Agg:301. Though, it could have been better, but no more time for preparation. thankful to God it isn't bad and i can advance to the next stage. GRE humbled people yesterday at JKK ehn that some refused to leave the centre. So pathetic.

Heloo guys, please I need your advice. Please am reall worried. I registered for paper based GRE at the centre at Aba. As stated by ETS, I printed the form, then filled it then went to the centre and submitted to the man incharge. His name is uncle lewis, the centre is a private school owned by an African American. So I submitted, made the payment and then travelled back to Calabar where am based. The next day i called the man and he said he has posted the form to the Princeton address on the form. I called ETS and they said it takes 4weeks to process the registration. Uptil now I have not gotten any mail regarding my registration. Please has anyone encountered such before? And secondly how long does it take for a document to be posted to US? Is there any possibility that the form has reached the office but still being processed?

You only need to be worried if you've waited for more than 4 weeks, and yet no show. You won't see a mail until after processing, so give it the standard time. If the man has sent it to the address, be rest assured.

Hello, so I just thought of giving those preparing for GRE an advice..its not okay to just be preparing for GRE alone and not do INTENSIVE research and shortlist schools you will want to apply to so that you can send your scores to them on the test date for free. Dont waste those '4 free' slots to send scores on the test date like I did, this will save you cash. I remember I did research and shortlisted schools I will like to apply to but it wasnt intensive enough. it was after I had taken GRE I realised I can/wont apply to thoses schools due to one preference, reason etc. so inshort I ended up not applying to any of the 4 schools I sent my scores to and I am sure you know the implication (had to send to the schools I applied to at a cost, and dollar Naira exchange rate no be beans). Merry Christmas and happy New year in advance. Special shout out to sirriddy ..thank you brother for the year..i owe you

I am sorry for sharing my GRE experience later than expected.
I arrived the exam cntre( JKK) later than the scheduled time (10:00am). Lateness could have been avoided bt i cared less, bcus i had once taken GRE, towards the d tail end of my service year. JKK was my centre n the experience at that time instigated my complacency about
punctuality. Appearing at d centre, i was taken aback by the ets officials wen they asked that i step out. I shuddered n thought within myself "i can't miss this exam na." I was practically abt 30mins late. Not more than! To cut the story short, i was attended 2 after evry other person had been settled and i later observed i wasn't d last to arrive d centre.
The analytical writing section was cool. I didn't struggle to have a grasp of the topics. Though 'exam tension' caught up wit me while i typed n impeded d flow, i managed to complete d section.
The other sections were structured as VQVQV. The verbal questions were typical of d GRE and so were d quants too. However, my problem wit quants had to do with time management. Most times i got carried away trying to solve a questn. Alloting time to each questns is a good idea, unfortunately, i only did that during my preparations. I am oblivious as to why i never replicated d approach on d D-day.
GRE verbal is doable! If you can read n understand d RC, then chances are that you will answer most if nt all d questions correctly. Manhattan is the real deal for array of RC questions and other sections of verbal too nt necessary including AWA.
With the Power prep, i had V152 n Q150 but on actual test day; V152 n Q149. May be not perfect because i had one month and half to prepare but it's better than my first attempt - V142 n Q144. I never new how crazy it could be to take GRE without preparation then. I pounced at it and got ricocheted...Lolz.. I guess i was desperate. I immediately developed phobia 4 GRE afterwards n never gave it much thought again, until lately after encouragement from my padis like centrix n ebdib and the ginger emanating from this thread.
RECOMMENDATION
1. Just like other testifiers have said, i will reitterate that prospective candidates should commence pratice wit Baron and later Manhattan.
2. Get a hard copy of vocabulary lists; most esp GRE vocab lists. Learn new words n always scout for vocabs, write d meaning n use them @ opportune times to concretize them.
3. Use power prep to monitor ur score for improvement. The simulate test is a perfect tool to keep track of your performance. Ensure you don't over use or familiarize urself wit the prep's questions, otherwise you may lose its relavance as a litmus test.

NOTE:
1. Those with top GRE scores worked hard for it. You just have to practise, practise and pratise.
2. GRE questions can be repeated, but the probability that u will come across any is slim. One verbal question 4rm power prep was repeated for me.
3.The more practice n study you do, the more confident n less apprenhensive you will be.

Thanks to all stakeholders on this thread, we shall all succeed by God's grace!

Would be glad if you can elaborate on the bolded to aid some applicants on the areas to seek for more info from the schools. Truth is most are caught up in the test preparation that they've little or no time for this intensive research before the test and discover the obstacles during the application processes. Some info can't also be gotten via the school's site. Thanks. smiley

I think I also pointed this earlier, I think he meant prepare for different scenarios example prepare a school incase you score 280 undecided... It's good to bliv u can get everything buh their is a lot of sense in plan B, I went into the exam with 6 schools with their average score ranging from 290 to 320 wen my score cane 306 I started calculating my chances from my scores point of view and was able to submit 4 feasible schools from the he scores point of view although one slot wasted because one required English test a fact I had ignored throughout
Ensure you check all the requirements, I assumed they will all waive English test for Nigeria buh UH said no cry

You are right guy. No need to waste that free 4 slots. Do ur homework well so that you will have schools handy on the exam day. You shld also have reserve schools in case ur scores don't turn out as u expect. Goodluck to those writing soon.

what I am saying in essence is that you have to do your research well and know what will suit you/ dream. for example one of the school I sent my score too require me to send SOA and affidavit with the application or else no decision will be made,i didnt know that earlier before sending my score to them, sending that is a lot of stress to me financialy and physically when I am not even sure of admision yet. its easy to send it when you have admision( my opinion). another reason why I didnt apply to another school was because it was too low in ranking and I dont think I will be happy there. there is no point choosing a school as safe when if you eventualy get admision you dont see yourself attending with a joyful heart. you can read this websites www.msinus.com and edulix.com. i got lot of useful info about schools that give funding and admision rate..inshort do your research well before sending your scores. Exchange rate is not smiling. there are still lot of stuffs to spend money on

Thanks so much. The exchange rate is a big concern now. Sth that was around 170 by this time last year. I pray it goes down in the 1st quarter of next year.

Got accepted to the Computer Science PhD program with a
Graduate Teaching Assistantship that covers full tuition, health insurance and some stipends.
They fund MS students too. The program is in the US top 100 but not high ranked (#90).
Just that their priority funding deadline is mostly January.
Downside is the location, closest big cities for jobs are Chicago, St. Louis and Kansas City, Missouri.
