Good day pals,

I hold B.Sc and M.Sc degrees in 2011 & 2013 respectively. I applied to SAIT and Lambton College both for fall 2016 for advanced diploma, though I'm yet to get a response, hence, I'd like senior men in the house to put me through pertaining the following;

1. What documents would I be needing for visa application?
2. Apparently, after my M.Sc, I've been managing my dad's school and projects based on the naija job situation. How do I explain this gap at the embassy?
3. Can the medicals be done at any hospital and upfront?

Thanks.

Hello knowledgeable Ladies and Gentlemen,

I am currently living and working in Edmonton Alberta. I came to Canada as a student in 2012; at Niagara college Ontario. I have since then transitioned into a worker and about to get my Permanent residency. To be honest, my Canadian experience so far has been tough but every single bit of it has been worth it. I would encourage anyone to make the move to come aboard to this amazing country and get a better standard of living and a chance at better opportunities in the current world situation.

I am currently trying to get my sister into the country as well through the student visa process. I have not been able to see enough information online, with regards to the application and I am pretty sure the process has changed compared to what it was in 2012. Note that back then, the processing time for paper application was 24 weeks but I got my TRV in 6 weeks.

According to the info i got on the cic website http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/applications/student.asp?countrySelect=NG#applications
i strongly believe the info on this page are not sufficient for a Nigerian applicant.

Can anyone please tell me where i could get a proper document checklist that states all other documents that are not found on the above webpage?
I currently have these documents filled out:
....Document checklist [IMM 5483]
...Application for a Study Permit Made Outside of Canada [IMM 1294]
...Family Information [IMM 5645] (PDF, 68.71 KB) September 2010
...Schedule 1 – Application for Temporary Resident Visa [IMM 5257 – Schedule 1]
...Statutory Declaration of Common-Law Union [IMM 5409]
...Custodian Declaration [IMM 5646]
...Visa application photograph specifications
...Use of a Representative [IMM 5476] (PDF, 663.87 KB) June 2015

I believe I would be needing Police Clearance cert., sponsorship Court affidavit, study permit questionnaire form and some other. Please people, anyone with info as to where i would get a full document checklist for Nigerian applicant should please hit me up.

Guys and girls, please feel free to ask any questions about my journey so far and i would do my best to answer any inquiry you have.

thanks in advance

@Metrecube I am going for Post Graduate Certificate program (PGC).

The gap I had is 5years and I have been working, like i stated that I worked with Huawei and Ericsson.

For my personal SOA that I might have issues now because if i move money to it now na trouble it will raise a red flag. But am thinking of puting my payslip and or just fix month for 3months. What do you think?

you can mail the school and inform them that you are yet to receive an update from CIC and that you are requesting that your admission be posted to the next available date. seeing that your resumption is already at hand.

Emma have u gotten an accomodation yet in regina cos am coming dis january but to start classes by may. And i have not paid my fees but i have gotten my trv. What do i tenda at POE

It is not advisable to travel in January for a May resumption, though you have been permitted to travel, you may be denied entry if you made the trip. I was also given a TRV on the second week of December, 2015, but I ain't leaving till April 2016, kos my school resumes May. I learned it is usually 1 month to the date on the admission letter. Be wise bruv.

I say it was tough because it requires a lot of hard work not compared tto what we are used to in Nigeria. If you wanna transition into a permanent resident in this country, youve gotta follow certain rules like keeping a job for a certain period, which is usually 1 year to be eligible to apply under the Canadian Experience Class CEC (you can read up on CEC online). many jobs; especially oil field jobs (white or blue collar) require you to put in lots of overtime. I had to work 12 hours a day for six days a week not stop for a period of 5months. It is really stressfull plus youve gotta brace up for the weather if you are required to work outside, which is really really cold (as cold as -30 to -40 degrees) up north Alberta.

Now i studied for 3 semesters in total out of which my folks payed for two semesters. i remember i took a summer semester off to go hustle in Alberta for 4 months in 2013 summer and I literally worked for 12 hours everyday from monday to saturday, as a landscape labourer. It was a really tough job for tough men only. but I made my tuition fees within that period ($8,000) while i was paying rent and other bills and I still had enough money saved that lasted me thru my final semester back in Ontario. I must have made $14,000 during that 4 month summer break but i spent it all on my tuition fees, flight tickets, bills bills bills.

Good news was that in this part of the world, there are lots of job opportunities that pay well, but only wise people can manage their finances because everything around is expensive too. There was no way i could have had a legit job in naija, without connections, without being the son of a politician or a crook and make take home after taxes $14,000 in four months

Thanks for sharing your experience. Now speaking generally from your own personal experience with all what you said above, do you think that overall, the benefits outweighs the struggles or vice versa?
