I totally understand how you are feeling. US being short of your expectation. You need to get to city or near city. And you already have a good plan going about it. Hope your school isn't too far from your current location? I wish you best of luck

I you have time on your side, try nipost, it takes 3weeks for your document to get to US and ut cost #350 and its 50/50 chance but if no time and you dont want stories that touch, use DHL, it takes 3 working days to get to the US. it cost 11000+ but if you have your sch ID card, you can request for student package that cost #8000+. DHL is more reliable

What you are experiencing is perfectly normal for anyone adjusting to the US educational system.
Just give yourself more time and you will adapt. Same thing happened to me when I first arrived.
During the first week of class I was completely lost. I could barely hear what was taught in class because most instructors speak very fast. In my first test I failed woefully but I was able to bounced back and make a nice GPA at the end of the semester because my lowest test score was replaced by my final exam

Listed below are some of the things I did that helped me.

(A) Read your syllabus and make sure you always prepare for a topic before it's taught in class.
For example Let say your instructor will be teaching integration next week. Before class next week read up on integration. Just google integration and you will see some various links with detailed explanation on the topic. Another thing you can do is to watch youtube videos on whatever topic you are preparing for. Most youtube videos normally show step by step solution of any given problem.

(B) Do all homework, extra credit and quizzes
In my school your homework, extra credit, quizzes and test make up the bulk of your grade. You can actually pass a class without even writing the final exam

The breakdown might look like this

Homework: 10%
Quizzes: 10%
Tests: 60%
Final Exam: 20%
Extracredit: 10%-20% {depends on the instructor}

Unlike Nigeria here in the states you can project your anticipated grade for a given class even before the final exam. Most times depending on your instructor, if you are comfortable with your grade you can choose exempt from final exam and you will not be required to write the final exam.

(C) Attend tutor sessions
In most college campuses tutors are usually available free of charge to all current college student. So if you are confused with a given topic you can schedule an appointment with a tutor and they can assist you. They can also proofread your essays and in some cases they can also assist with your homework.

(D) Know your professor
Normally before taking any classes I go to ratemyprofessors.com to view students comments concerning instructors pattern of teaching. Most times I tend to go with professors with highest ratings because it is so easy to pass their class. Some instructors offer take home tests and others offer open notebook/open textbook test. You need to ask people around you so they can let you know which instructors might be easy. Remember in this country information is key to success.

(E) If possible avoid withdrawing from a class midway through the semester.
Most students tend to withdraw from a class after the First test if they have performed poorly. I always advice people to complete a course regardless of any difficulty faced. In my school depending on the performance of the entire class most instructors usually curve students towards the end of the semester.
For example let say I am taking a differential equation course and there are no A students, normally at the end of the semester inorder to help some student pass the course a B student is assigned an A, a C student is assigned a B, a D student is assigned a C. Remember all of these is dependent on the instructor.

I remember taking an integral calculus class in my third semester. This class was one of the most difficult classes I have ever taken. Average test score in any given test are normally 30/100 and sometimes 40/100
After the second test most students withdrew from the class. Out of over 30 students registered for the course there were only 10 students left in the course. After the third test my cumulative grade was about 60% which is a D. A week before our final exam the instructor announced that our final exam was open notebook/open textbook meaning that everybody was allowed to bring any kind of Mathematics textbook including printed materials from the internet into the exam hall. I couldn’t believe my ears. I brought in about three different Math textbooks and also printed a lot of papers from the internet. When our final grades for the semester were released I skyrocketed from a D grade to a B as a result of the open notebook/open textbook policy.

I think the other thing that should be pointed out is that this is a student in graduate school. It sounds like he might have been better suited towards getting a bachelors degree in the US, but by the time we are working on our masters or PhDs in the US there is an expectation that you are performing independent research.

Graduate school in the US is more of a forum for critical thought and discussion than a course where you sit there and take notes.

I have a transcript which was sent to one of the University in Czech Republic for admission purpose.

The thing about educationusa is that most schools require u to register with educationusa at the usa embassy den educationusa will mail d school dat u hv registered with them. The total cost should be roughly 35k. Minnesota state university is one school that requires applicants from Nigeria to register with educationusa. I don't know if educationusa evaluate result but what I know is u must come with ur transcript before u can be registered.

Where have you been checking? check linkedin and indeed.com. I will suggest for now not to necessarily narrow down by location, because some companies could be willing to pay for your relocation expenses (that's how I got mine). The ones you claim are for US citizen, how is it stated? is it "for US citizen only" or "must not be seeking sponsorship at this time or a later period" or "must be authorized to work in the USA"? Because if it's the last two you can still go ahead and apply o.

I have answered that. I said after applying,u will ask dem to mail the school and inform them that u hv registered. If u r in lagos try and attend their free lecture on wednesday by 9am,go with ur international passport and ur transcript. Then if u want to register, the lady will tell u wot next to do. But just keep upto 35k for dat.
