Which, from the picture, is exactly what the Italians are training them in

African COIN operations aren't necessarily CQB, they are mostly FIBUA and long distances. So a CQB training is shouldn't be the core of the training. All African terrorists usually begin attacks hit targets with 14.5mm's from long distances.

who helped srilanka ? do you remember the last hostage rescue undertaken by algeria, what happened .algeria is still facing an insurgency which is rarely reported http://www.bbc.com/news/world-africa-30838450

still waiting for my answer

Many countries are carrying out COIN operations, including Algeria, however they've been able to contain the escalation.

The last hostage rescue undertaken by Algeria in the gas plant, was flawless. The terrorist are now fully aware that holding hostages in Algeria is a waste of time.

I agree with Rugged7, the Italians are in no position whatsoever to train the Senegalese. The Italians are not particularly good soldiers by the way.

Basic soldiering isn't COIN.

So what are they actually teaching the Senegalese?

-Your video shows the Italians like can shoot, same as the Senegalese

-It shows the can return fire, same as the Senegalese

- It shows, as usual with a NATO forces deployed in Afghanistan, they go calling a gunship to neutralise the threat(s) ( one wonders whether this tactic would work against a country with a proper military), which this time didn't happen, as they again came under fire.

Mali mortar attack kills three UN peacekeepers in Kidal

Three UN peacekeepers from Guinea have been killed in a mortar attack on their base in Kidal in northern Mali.
Thirty others were injured in the raid, which involved rockets and a truck bomb.
A local militia that signed a peace deal with the government last year blamed Islamist militants for the attack, Reuters news agency reports.
The UN is trying to restore peace to the north, which was overrun in 2012 by jihadists and ethnic Tuareg groups.
The al-Qaeda-linked insurgents, who fell out with Tuareg separatists, were ousted from northern towns by a French led-force in 2013.

You don't seem to get my point. African terror attacks on Security forces are usually started of at long distances and FIBUA.

CQBs are not common.

Basic soldiering isn't COIN.

1. Italian Army is held to a way higher standard than any African country

2. Yes, basic soldiering isnt COIN

This

One moment @Henry and @Augustine are criticizing AMANI II for its emphasis on mobility and long range operations

Now they are criticizing Italians for doing close in basic soldiering training

They are teaching them basic soldiering drills.

The video shows the Italians can maintain a disciplined and co-ordinated base of fire, pin the enemy and call in support to destroy the enemy. IE: COIN 101

No, that tactic will not work against a country with a proper military they are fighting as light infantry in a fluid situation, they are not defending the Fulda Gap and so they act accordingly.

You realize that the only difference between CQB and MOUT/FIBUA is the inclusion of logistics in MOUT/FIBUA?

Its essentially the same.

Italians are helping them build core skills. Core skills apply to everything.

If according to Africom, the aim of flintlock is to gather 'counterterrorism' forces, those basic drill(s) is a waste f time and resources. They are not regular infantry.

Stop making comments like what the Italians did in that video is extraordinary. That's basic fire suppression. Trained soldiers would always react in a similar fashion.

You don't start running basic drills in an elite COIN exercise. Every participant at Flintlock is an elite soldier. It is expected that the basic drills have been mastered before coming to do the exercise.

"Are we taking 2 steps backwards for every step forward?".

So, yet again, you are judging an entire exercise based off of a solitary picture.

The exercise would be a source of many photos..... So, in that sense it isn't useless.

However, if soldiers are going to run through basic drills without incorporating their own experiences in the African battlespace, then it sure could be.

Anyway, i only wanted to get the opinions of commentators.
