@thread
Although I spent a considerable amount of years in Nigeria, most of my formative years were spent outside her shores so some of my opinions are based on what I've read and recently experienced. Growing up, my parents taught me about my ethnic group and pride in my culture but they never talked about any tribe, nationality or race. I grew up seeing people as people and I thank them for that. This is probably why I might have jumped on the bandwagon screaming "inter-tribal marriage(in Nigeria) is awesome." That would've been before I came across various Nigerian sites and had certain real life experiences. Nigeria is not what I thought it was so I can't "scream" anymore. Also, I cannot tell you inter-tribal marriage is calamitous because as this thread has shown, there are people out there who are in it and seem to be having the best marriage they could have hoped for.

Inter-tribal or intra-tribal. It's a choice and nobody should be condemned for the one they make. After all, we all deserve a chance at happiness.
Be that as it may, we shouldn't forget that in all things, wisdom must be applied.

I must say, I find it a little bit disturbing that even users well known for tribalism(subtle or not) are on this thread, supporting inter-tribal marriage. Many Nigerians are very ethnic conscious, most times, not in a good way. So, even when they claim to support inter-tribal marriage, you should know that it's still limited to certain ethnic groups.

Oh honey, I wasn't trying to be subtle. I never am when dealing with a tribalist who is also in favour of railroading my culture and says it to my face. Will it make you feel better if I say if it were a Yoruba person making these comments, I'd say the same?

Oh dear! I really do not care about your "dealings". I simply implied that the last part of your comment was quite unnecessary as that has always been discernible. As for your obviously "meant-as-an-insult" question, I've never and will never support tribalism irrespective of the ethnic group being denigrated. Don't forget, I'm not youwink

Nice ..but as a man stop cheapening yourself by telling the man how you are glad he married you..that statement has a way of puncturing your worth as a woman

A man should be head over heals on a woman not the other way round

Don't make the dude look at you that he did you a favour

Take this from a married man

But keep appreciating him but don't diminish your value mbok

Hmmmm, if asked the question last year, I would have blatantly say no to the union. However, I have seen my Edo bestie treated nicer than any other by her Yoruba spouse. Tot is growing on me now...

Wow, this is astounding. So u mean Igbo ladies like myself that married out of our tribes are bad with dirty histories. Simply incredulous!!!! Your logic is embarrassingly flawed. I wonder where u have been to or how you grew up, your thought process is shockingly backward. If you have mingled at all or worked with big organizations you would know that one great factor that influences choice of life partner is location. It would be foolish of one to pass up on good men or women around them simply because they are from different tribes or because they do not want to be termed wayward. God! I feel retarded even typing this. I have heard lots of ludicrous statements but clap for yourself, this one takes the cake.

Oga I hope you married from your clan, or better still from the compound next to yours in your village. it would be a shame if you didn't...really. see you championing for a cause that you have no business with. you do not know how long I dated my husband before marriage. you do not know our level of compatibility or lack of it thereof, but you have naively jumped into the conclusion that I was complacent or infatuated. the level of love and welcome I have received from my husband family, I cant even describe, my mother in law calls me to pray for on the phone almost everyday, so again I ask, why do you seat in your little closed world on and conclude on behalf of the millions of inter tribal families. who made you our spokesman? you have travelled the world does not mean you have learnt an iota of what life is all about. your first child is nine does not make you an expert on inter tribal marriages. why don't you focus on your clannish family and allow us the have broader minds to enjoy our uniqueness. I hope you are as passionate in your marriage as you are in your quest to prove that those of us married outside our tribes have less of a marriage than those married within their tribes. its people like you that would stand in the way of your children's happiness because of your tribalistic, bigoted mind set. oga wake up and smell the coffee biko. thank God I don't have someone as close minded as you in my family. I hope you don't do business with other tribes, or let your children go to the same school with them. abi they are only good for association but not for marriage. So people that think like you still exist. Chukwu zuputa kw'anyi n'aka ndi mgbochi uzo. Ekene kwa m gi!

Ur sister that i married and stare into her eyes every night, gives me that impression that without her brother, lover and best friend, she will not be satisfied spiritually.

Our love making is spiritual, complete bonding on a brotherly level, as lovers and then as peers.

Maybe your are in Mars or Jupiter but it African ....marriage isn't about two people tolerating each other ...it about family

It is a unio. Between families

Just like a girl that disobeys the parents and went ahead to marry a boy thinking that love is the major ingredient in marriage ..when the marital crisis cones..who will she run to

I am not saying that inter tribal marriages don't work ...they do but there is very higher tendencies for those marriages to break up

Ask Stella damasus or clarion chukwura abiola

These are few case studies
Clarion Chukwura's mother is Yoruba. Clarion's Yoruba name is Toyin. So your point does not matter in her case. She obviously favored Yoruba men as all her spouses and partners were Yoruba till this recent one. I don't think the failure of her marriage was dependent on Tribe as she is part Yoruba but more on the personalities involved.

Th ratio of igbo men that married outside is very low even if they will marry they marry from near by tribes like cross rivers and Delta

An average well brought up igbo lady wants to marry an igbo man and will marry one but when the bad ones with dirty history doesn't see husband they end up as available becoming desirable

The yoruba men she associated with are multi-millionaires. U take it as liking yorubas?

How many igbo multi-millionaires will leave a humble and virtuous girl for Tonto hand in marriage?

Public Toilet or Private Toilet? Yorubas choose Public toilet whilst Igbos choose Private Toilet. It all comes down to choice in marriage.

Even with four wives option, Hausa and Yoruba will divorce one of the four wives, just to marry another one, but an Igbo man with one wife choice is still their with his wife. In my next life, i must be igbo again.

HEY! SEE BELOW...

It is always a matter of time, statistics dont lie.

ALL the nollywood actress married to yorubas end up divorced and baby mamas.

JUST TAKE A SAMPLE OF THE MINORITY INTER-TRIBAL MARRIAGE AND COMPARE TO THE MAJORITY MARRIAGES INVOLVING PEOPLE OF THE SAME TRIBE. DO THE MATHS. THE MINORITY INTER-TRIBAL MARRIAGE IS MORE LIKELY TO CRASH.

HERE ARE A FEW EXAMPLES.

Uche Iwuji to Juwon Lawal, divorced after baby. Monalisa Chinda to Segun Dejo Richards divorced after baby, Ngozi Nwosu, Stepnora Okere Stella damasus divorced after baby and Clarion Chukuwura used for baby by Shina Peter, used by Tunde Abiola and divorced and then Femi Odunaye and divorced.

Wen did igbo women turn baby mamas biko nu?

Read below and see link. https://www.nairaland.com/3569532/tonto-dike-removes-husbands-name.

i dont know wen igbo women started to be baby mamas, that are left holding and raising yoruba baby for yorubas. really sad!

Mind u yorubas believe that igbo produce beautiful baby, maybe this is a using arrangement. Only God knows.

Last I knew she was married to Jaiye Aboderin who Died( she had 2 girls for him) and then married Emeka Nzeribe briefly and she's now with Daniel Ademinokan (Doris Simons ex hubby) So which man did she divorce after having a baby for him?

I am not for or against intertribal marriages but you guys should try to post stuffs that are true about people.

Even God told the Israelites to marry within their tribes

So what are we arguing here

God said this because of the religion not bexagaw of tribe
The moabite women who changed to the religion of the jews all married Jewish men with God's approval and some of them were ancestors of Christ e.g. Rahab, and Ruth

So your argument holds NO water
