I have a question, I have two nationality, both nigerian/british, do I have to show both passport when leaving uk airport or just nigerian, however I have errors on my Nigerian passport.like my date of birth and names, wuld correct it wen I get to nigeria, can I still leave uk....any answers pls would be grateful and helpful

The only thing you should worry about is that mistake, apart from that...you can travel trouble-free with your Nigerian passport to Nigeria and return with your British passport.

I have a question....
I was originally born in Sweden but then my parents brought me back to Nigeria when i was still little. So what they have is this Small piece of paper(my birth cert i presume)..So i dont have any original Nigerian Birth Cert.
Now the problems are...In the sweden little sheet,my surname there is not my real surname.
Now that i want to apply for a Nigerian Passport, what can i do.

Still so many answered questions, why is the surname on the birth certificate not yours? All other documents you presently possess, are they in your real name or fake name? Originally born, meaning? You cannot have a Nigeria birth certificate, simply because according to your questions, you were not born in Nigeria !!!

Seeking asylum does not warrant a name change, not unless your Father was trying to play the Swedish system and was the asylum granted under his assumed name ?
And what year was all this asylum application and year of birth?
Laws could have changed, in the passage of time.

But I have a british passport, however wat if I get two seprate tickets and wen I get to nigerian I can sort out my nigeria passport at abuja, hoever getting a visa is too expensive and I dont want t keep wasting money

There was a weird memo passed round to Travel agents, Nigerian Embassy in UK and some few professionals, around August/September last year...

Something about travelling with one passport to/fro Nigeria only...Border machines at the airport are being reprogrammed, so very soon you would only be able to travel to/back from Nigeria with just one passport.

Until now, we can travel out with our Nigerian Passport and return with our UK passport, but once this dodgy rule kicks in, if you choose to travel with your UK passport, you have to buy a £400 Nigeria visa to guarantee a smooth passage to Nigeria otherwise you would be sent back from UK airport that you don't have a visa to travel to Nigeria. If you use your Nigerian passport to fly out, you would be denied boarding back to the UK because the computer would not show up that you are a British Citizen, so you would be told to go and apply for a UK visa if you want to travel to UK.

The counter staffs would not be able to help you because every time they swipe your passport, it will show up as blank. So be warned...

I reckon 100% that there would be war in Nigeria following the February 14th election, started by either Boko because Buhari is going to win, but the result will be rigged and the seat given to GEJ, hence reason for such drastic sinister moves...

You can't get a UK visa if you are a UK citizen. They won't issue it to you at all.

Hi. Quick question: I have dual citizenship, Nigerian/UK. EU passport is valid while Nigerian passport has crossed the 5 year mark. I usually travel to Nigeria with both. Do you think the not valid Nigerian passport will be a problem at UK airport on my way to Nigeria?

Some great comments and advice. I was born in the Uk but grew up in Nigeria - even did NYSC b4 travelling abroad.

I will try and see whether I can get a Nigerian passport when I get to Nigeria - I am in Nigeria for only 3 weeks. I will actually like to go to Abuja because I've never been - it was still under construction when I left,

So what is the process of getting one in Nigeria? Can I possibly get my family to start the process before I arrive in Nigeria. Thanks.

Hi there, I was born and raised in the UK too but in 2010 went to Abuja for 4 days and applied for my Nigerian passport there. I had to visit my state house and fill in a form and have a short 5 minute interview (all in Abuja). You'll need to take your parents Nigerian details too and that of your father's village. I then swore an affidavit and applied for my passport in Abuja and returned home with it. If you have time you can always do it in London although it's more costly. I travelled to Nigeria last November using my Naija passport to enter Nigeria and my British passport for my return journey to the UK. So....I have two passports.

Simple answer..No

If that were the case nobody would ever bother renewing their passport. An out of date passport is NOT valid to travel. My passport was also over 5 year mark and had to renew it before travelling last year.

It IS an issue. If your Nigerian passport is expired you can't travel with it unless you have a letter from Nigerian passport office in London EXPRESSLY giving you permission to travel to Nigeria with it BUT it will state that you have to renew the passport once in Nigeria.

That is not entirely true. In the case of the OP he can travel to Nigeria with expired Nigerian passport. Yes he will be told to renew it at POE in Nigeria but will be allowed in even without bribing anybody.
Re: Dual Nationality Nigeria/uk Passport? by worry359(m): 2:22pm On Feb 21, 2016
OP claims dual citizenship and says that he has a valid UK / EU ? passport.
That will allow him to book a flight and board the airplane.
His home passport from Nigeria gives him the right to enter Nigeria and then get his PP renewed.
He will need a valid Nigerian PP to leave.

Who said anything about bribery?

The OP needs to get a letter From the Nigerian high commission with permission to travel with the passport that has not been renewed.

Yes OP can travel with it but with express permission in the form of a letter (permission to travel) with the unrenewed passport. If it was okay for us to travel with a Nigerian passport outside of renewal why would anyone renew with all the stress and expense? Why would there be a stipulation to renew after 5 years on a ten year passport expiry date?

He doesn't need any letter from anybody, read his case again because you are mixing up things. As a dual citizen he can travel with that expired Nigerian passport to Nigeria and leave with his British passport. At POE he will be advised to renew his Nigerian passport but will not be refused entry to Nigeria.

Many have done it before and you can also read recent case here https://www.nairaland.com/2838980/update-traveling-expired-nigerian-passport/1

Are you encouraging people to travel to Nigeria with an expired Nigerian passport just cos they have dual citizenship? That's not patriotic buddy.

Can you please post the official advice on passport renewal please? From the Nigerian immigration site in the UK? Also you may be confused and need to read what the poster said. His passport has not expired it is passed the five year renewal requirement. Just like mine was before my trip just 4 months ago....I had to renew. Those are the rules.

I also know someone personally who after turning up at the airport with his ticket and passport, was not allowed to fly had to return the next day with a letter from the Nigerian High Commission giving permission to travel but stipulating he must have it renewed in Nigeria. He also had to buy another ticket/ pay to have date changed.

If the poster is a Brit s/he would have asked for what the actual rules are and not ways to bend them or what you can 'get away with'.

I can't tell you how many people I witnessed shouting and arguing at the High Commission when I was there simply because they refused to do the right thing (in true Nigerian fashion)and would not be getting theirs or their childrens documents on time to travel.

All instructions were even in bold red font online but they just had a problem following them.

If the rule is truly that you travel with the expired passport and a valid UK passport then hurray.....I need never renew my Nigerian passport again because I will always have a valid UK one. The High Commission owe me a refund.

I am in the US and I have to travel to Nigeria. I was wondering if I will be allow to enter Nigeria with expired passport accompany with a valid US passport. My friend told me, I can travel to Nigeria with an expired passport as long as I have a valid US passport, but I have to renew my passport as soon as I get to Nigeria or else they will not allow me back into US. Is this a true statement?

You keep arguing but failed to understand the whole situation, last March I traveled to Nigeria and my passport has just 6 days left before it expires, the passport expired while I was in Nigeria and I came back with the same passport and my residency card, I was only reminded by Nigerian immigration to renew it when I get to the UK and I did.

So basically Just wise you are talking about travelling to Nigeria on a valid passport. It was still in date when used, right? Or no?

Dude, whatever meaning you drive from patriotism, that's your gain but stop encouraging people to travel to Nigeria on expired passport. There is nowhere in the world where it is legal to travel with expired documents, Nigeria is not an exception and to think this is coming from a moderator says a lot.

What is there to understand when you haven't made any sense? It doesn't take a brain surgeon to renew a travel document or get a visa on the valid passport instead of traveling on an expired one. Anyways, i am not here to argue with you bro....Cheers
