You were able to stand up for your right because you have access to free legal backing. How many Nigerians can afford to get a lawyer? How many?

Under Buhari and APC all that will CHANGE as promised, not so

Ok..seems you are doing fine with the law suit.

Next, what's the way forward i. e moving on careerwise?
Obviously that job has ended. You said you studied accounting, what relevant professional courses have you considered to enable you to practice, except you are not interested in practising.

If you are interested then enroll for ICAN or ACCA certification, also consider an appointment with a small scale professional services firm for a start while looking out for other opportunities. Even if you will be paid 30k the work experience is very relevant to your career and more prestigious.

Okbye!
why all this unnecessary career advice na ? are you his mother ni ?

Its a good thing to hear so a story from courageous people like you. Lebanese are terrible ppl to work with, that I know. The problem we face in this country is that there's no strict law, we are lawless, that's why foreigners would come to Nigeria and treat them any how.. How can a Nigerian go to Lebanon can try this kind of thing?? Am sure by now his hands would have been cut off.
Most construction workers are been enslaved, I have seen it, I have been there, and am still there. Whether skilled, unskilled or a professional, you work at the mercy of your "OGA".
What pains me most is that most Nigerians working with this foreigners lick the feet of their "OGA", if not you would be sacked on time.
Its painful to see how this foreigners treat Nigerians at times, but the real issue here is "how we go do"..
I know construction workers that have worked for Lebanese companies 20-25years, when the got sacked they had nothing to show, not even a bicycle.
We need a strong labour Union that would fight for both the skilled and unskilled labours, they are really suffering.
God bless Nigeria

Its worse here in Kano. They even Bleep their employees wives and lock them up at the slightest provocation. The Nigerian police force in Kano even assist them to carryout such attacks on innocent Nigerians.

Ask anyone who stays in Kano what influence the likes of Tahir, Jaffa have in Kano, despite being Lebanese.

You dad should handle the matter right and make sure that idiot pays through his nose. We Nigerians have to start speaking up and saying no to these Indians and Lebanese and their maltreatment.
truth be told these indians and lebanese and chinese only maltreat poor and scared nigerians. i say this because i have seen pictures of all of them mingling and partying together with well to do nigerians ( not even extremely rich but nigerians who are well travelled and have some kind of status and confidence ) in the polo club and at parties, i have seen many of them with my friends in pictures all having a great time. I GUESS ALL AM TRYNA SAY IS THAT THESE LEBANESE CHINESE AND INDIANS HATE FEARFUL AND LOWLY PEOPLE. ITS NOT A RACE THING. IF THEY SEE YOU AS SOMEONE BENEATH THEM THEY AUTOMATICALLY TREAT YOU LIKE CRAP. ITS JUST WHO THEY ARE. THEY HAVE NO DECORUM. THEY ARE FULL OF HATE FOR PEOPLE WHO THEY SEE AS LOWLY AND DEPENDENT. SO GET WHATEVER YOU CAN FROM THIS POST.

I tell you I've never had a greater desire to beat or even kill someone like I felt after the idiot slapped me. I just didn't want to mess up the case and spoil my chances of seeing his ugly Arabic self in court. I know they are all illegal immigrants with fake papers but I don't know how to go about reporting the issue and if reporting it would help me in any way because they have people in Immigrations and tax office that help them defraud Nigeria.

You have started well with the Law suit. But as you rightly said you need to fight them also through the tax office and Immigration.

You need to send a Letter to the Chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue Service,Mr.Tunde Fowler detailing their collusion with the tax office and how the Company have been evading taxes in Nigeria. You should try to be specific and with details.documents also should be provided if you can.

In addition, write to the Minister of Interior and copy the Comptroller of Immigration at Abuja and detail all their violation of Nigerian Immigration Laws-do they have expatriate quota return,do they file monthly returns to immigration.seat down and do a proper work. This guys need to be taught lessons.their excesses in Nigeria is mind buggling,They don't pay taxes and they illegally enter Nigeria to wok

Nice move OP but I fear you still have some hurdles to cross before you can think of winning this case.

for instance, do you have any evidence to prove that he actually slapped you? I mean, did anyone see him slap you and if that is the case, are they willing to testify against him, bearing in mind the risk of losing their jobs.

Again, I fear for now that it might just be your word against his and hr could say he didn't slap you, that you are just making things up, assuming he did not confess to the crime in his statement. I hope you have enough proof for the judge to nail the crap stain.

True talk bro.

I did my I.T In a Lebanese auto shop last year and I have to say all of them except the owner were straight up d!cks

first of all they are really stingy. I worked hard they for six months and the only appreciation they could give me was #1000. imagine 1000 for six months work.

Then they pay their workers as late as 15th of the month. These guys will be without money and hungry yet but they will still be insulting them and forcing them to do hard labour.

Really sad.

op God will bless you, there are so much injustice posting on us by the so called Lebaneese. Last month a stupid Lebaneese instulted me at the same port harcourt, trans amadi to be precise, I kept quiet cos i was a little at fault but still waiting for the day he gonna repeat such nonsense. At that same venue another Lebaneese man who employed a young lady as a cook sack her and refused to pay her two months salary with and excuse that the girl don't know how to cook. I thought that was just the case, untill yestarday the girl open up to me that her boss was asking her for friendship she refused him, and it was very difficult for me to believed untill the girl came up with an audio evidence. Just yestarday the lady came for her, belongings, but he refuse to let the lady go with it instead him and his fellow countary man who is still a tenant at that same compound threatening to arrest the girl with police. I was so angry, feeling I could help but to my greatest surprise most Nigerians who live there including the landlord see nothing wrong with it.

@Charlieubochi
A) what has your salary got to do with anything?! this is your job, and in that job description you are suppose to work on saturdays.... end of story!

B) if i was your boss i wouldnt have given you the day off.... NONSENSE! did you get to know about that wedding on that friday?! you have a job that needs to be taken care of, and if you dont have common sense to understand that your bosses cant find a replacement in such short notice (less than 24hrs), then thats the moment i will let you decide between going to your friend wedding OR keeping your job.... the other option would be for you to find someone in the office "qualified" to do your job, willing to take over your duty on that saturday.

C) who granted you the day off?! NOBODY. the person you asked, told you to take the issue with the MD, which "you" decided not to do. again, thats your fault. this is not some big company where you are in a different world from your MD, and therefore you should have talked to him. the only reason you didnt is because you knew he was going to deny you.

D) at the end of the day, whatever happens at the police station and however you may want to shift the issue at hand, you've lost your job due to your own doing... and thats a fact!

finally, here you are talking about how your bosses mistreat people bla bla bla, but funny enough, you had absolutely no issues with that (for God knows how long) until YOU fukced up. stop being an hypocrite!

I work for a construction company in Port Harcourt owned by 2 Lebanese brothers. I work as one of the two Administrative staff. I was employed two years ago and the very first thing I noticed about the place was the care - free manner the Lebanese people smoke. They smoke all kinds of things openly in the office not minding the health implications on other staff. I also noticed the total lack of respect that those people have for us Nigerians. They told me stories of how they insult people, throw all kinds of objects at them and I even heard they physically fight them. I always thought it was funny and I never ever thought that I'll be a victim of such horrible, barbaric and slave-master attitude from these people. I am a BSc degree holder in accounting and I am being paid #30,000 plus I have to work on Saturdays too.

On Friday last week I requested for permission. I informed the workshop manager that my friend would be wedding the following day(Saturday). He said I should go directly to the MD of the company a dental request for permission myself. I said no, that nobody goes directly to him knowing his very bad attitude and lack of respect for everyone and besides he's the MD and shouldn't be bothered by such trivial issues.

So I proceeded to go to the wedding on that Saturday thinking my request had been granted or at the most I would be marked absent on that day. I returned to work on Monday and I was stopped at the gate. The security people said the MD told them not to let me in. When I asked why, they said it was because I didn't come to work on Saturday. I was so shocked. In any case I begged and pleaded but I was advised to go home and come back the following day (yesterday) and beg him to let me continue working. I went to the office early and waited for him to come and then I started begging him. The moment he saw me he started insulting me. He said I was useless and ungrateful. I kept on begging. He came close to me and gave me a hot slap on my left cheek. I never in my widest dream expected to be slapped by any person whether boss or not. I was so furious that it took God's grace not to beat him up. I knew if I beat him up I won't have a good case against him. So I insulted him and stormed out of the office. I reported the case at the police station. They invited him to make his statement and my dad (who doubles as my Lawyer) is handling the issue.

I am going to make sure he will never forget this experience. He would pay heavily for this and other crimes he has committed against innocent Nigerians. He was so shocked and I could see some fear in his eyes at the police station. He never expected anyone much less the very quiet boy who sits in a corner of his big company to drag him to police station and to sue him to court.

The Lebanese, Indians and Chinese are fond of maltreating we Nigerians. Even his Lawyer confessed that they see us as slaves in our own country which is a very terrible situation. Many Nigerians are afraid of standing up for their rights when these people treat them badly. I'm writing this long message to encourage people to always stand up for their rights and never let anyone or situation intimidate them. I would love to hear from anyone that has gone through similar situations before.
pls let know d update...i mean how u succeeded in making him pay for his fuckup....it our stupid Govt dat give them dat stupid gut

Stop being a "footmart" for any foreigner!

First, show me:
1.) where it is written that it is only an M.D that can grant a "one day absence from work" request
2.) show me where it is written that working on Saturday is compulsory
3.) Show me where it is written that begging to resume your work is a criminal act
4.) Show me where it is written that assaulting your staff, for not working on a weekend, is lawful

until then, such aggressive employers need to be taught their lessons.

God bless you my brother. I'm shocked at some people's Comments. People saying I was at fault for not asking for permission even after I stated that I did are not very smart. How can you say anybody created by God deserves to be beaten just because he didn't come to work on Saturday which isn't even compulsory because it's calculated as overtime. The people accusing me have zero self esteem and don't understand basic human rights.
