A couple more Corvettes and maybe a new frigate or two would see allot more service than some subs.

IMO, subs are just a cherry on top... a treat you buy yourself when you believe you have everything else you need. They are massively expensive to operate because of all the infrastructure and human expertise you need to build and acquire to operate them... if RSA had not had the experience and infrastructure to carry over from the daphne class submarines there is no way we would have been able to get the Type 209's,

Reminder: The Thai Navy (who operate a carrier) assesed the Song Class and concluded that they would not have the resources to operate one.

But, if Nigeria was dead-set on getting subs, buying some midgets would be a good way to start on the long road.

Our surface fleet has to be recapitalised. Frigates, Corvettes and FAC. Then we can go for Subs.

This is our current requirement. We need to quit buying patrol ships, the Navy already sails enough of them. We literally have hundreds of patrol vessels, OPVs, MPVs, IPVs, Inshore patrol boats. This should stop.

Because getting a sub when you have never had one is fvcking expensive

Even if you outsource training 100% you still have to develop special berths, special dry-docks, employ special technicians to maintain it.. and the parts are crazy expensive, $15 mill for a spare set of batteries for the Type 209's - and to change anything in a sub, you usually have to cut it open!

And I suspect that, like most things Chinese, although it has great capabilities, the Song Class is *probably* quite maintenance intensive

My 1st impression was QRF, but there appears to be no unit ?blue badges on the arm
The vests are not so common with airforce specops
The wooded camouflage are reminiscent of the army spec ops chaps trained in russia
The weapons are consistent with Navy SBS and possibly some airforce QRF

-Remember the photo Dakingsman( Nigerian_military_History) shared a couple weeks back, the photo shows a QRF took a selfie. If you look at the background and general surrounding of the area, you'll see that, they are the same with this your photo.



-Only QRF and Navy SBS widely deploy the CTAR-21. The army only uses the standard TAR-21 in limited numbers.



- look up the page, the photo i shared, shows QRF guys in woodland cammo. The only difference between their gear and yours is the different cammo. Every other thing is essentially the same.

You need at least 3 to get decent operational levels going (one operational at any one time)

That's why i added 3 Corvettes. With the Corvettes, you are guaranteed a constant presence at sea. Nigeria's Type-056 is always deployed.



This is my opinion, maybe 2 Frigates, but i think 1 is enough. A functional Aradu, not included, if we include that, that's 2-3 vessels in that class.

Fact about the matter is, $100 million was budgeted for the acquisition CAPITAL PATROL PLATFORMS, whatever this means.

Only worried about confusion. When all servicemen put on bullet proof vests it will cover the chest service-arm I.D. Troops can't identify who's navy or who's army anymore. I think the I.D. should add two more, upper arm band and frontal head gear/helmet. See that officer briefing his men, bullet proof vest covers his chest I.D. but upper arm and shoulder I.D. visible.

Nigeria doing the same makes complete sense, from a cost standpoint, logistical standpoint and operational stand-point. It also gives the military a more professional look, which is important for both Moral (Reminder: G.W Bush made the American army adopt black berets for all units so they would all look like S.F) and for the hearts and minds aspect amongst the local population - the army looks more professional and more intimidating.

If I had my way, the SANDF would go back to the Nutria standard.
