Now for all you GTB defenders, @mployer, @shakitibobo, @phony200 and co calling everybody that was affected a thief, please riddle (answer) me this: why did GTBANK just debited @d rate of 199/$ for a transaction I just carried out now? An FX outward transfer if as you all claim, that rate is below the rate the bank sourced the dollar? Or is this also an anomaly
And why, contrary to CBN guidelines is GTBANK charging above the maximum 1,500 naira stipulated by CBN as maximum charge for bank token?

OTT is directly from CBN so it's at CBN bid rate, Card transactions are at each bank's treasury rate and discretion. I am not calling and have never called you a thief. Have you lodged a formal complaint to your bank? Do that and get a complaint reference number. Once two weeks elapse and it's not resolved, escalate to customer protection at the CBN with the mail trail and relevant documentation to them for resolution. CBN will then write the bank directly and give them 7 days from acknowledgement of receipt to come up with their side of the story. Once CBN receives GTB's response, a decision is usually reached within 21 days which GTB will communicate to you. I've posted the due process for reporting bank related complaints on the thread. I'm sorry but online petitions or e-protests are not the way. All those are classified under potential reputational risk which any bank will move to quash or just address and ignore. I'm not a GT defender as you claim. Substitute GT for any other bank anywhere in the world and the response is still going to be the same.

Follow due process and let the CBN manage your complaints directly.

hello
This is to draw the attention of the GTBank staffs monitoring this thread to another as they call it “system Glitch“ currently going on on their internet banking portal
the error is under the Airtime recharge section
Do take your time and fix this or we are going to initiate another round of action(s) against ypu and this will further point out the gross incompetence of ypur Tech team Thanks

by the way this is a copy of what i have already sent to card services

Hello sir,

If you were a service technician and someone sent this to you, I doubt you'd be able to help without recourse for more information. Could you please resend the email specifying exactly what you experienced, time it occurred, the transaction in question, error/system response and what exactly you expect resolution to be. It's like telling a shop owner, "Hey, one of your products in your warehouse has expired. Better replace it or else I'll call NAFDAC". You're more likely to get a result if you provide useful actionable information to whoever you sent the mail to.

e.g.

Dear XYZ company,

My account number is XXXXXXXXXX. I just tried to recharge my mobile number XXXXXXXX with ₦500 using your online banking portal around 2pm. After submitting the request, I got a system error prompt of "Transaction failed try again later". I was debited but I did not receive the airtime. Please reverse the debit or process my airtime request.

Dear Risi,

When we had dinner yesterday, I noticed your armpit is bushy. Please shave before our next meeting or wear long sleeve as the sight made me lose appetite and I don't like wasting food. grin grin grin

Risi is more likely to look presentable next time than if you had said "Risi, you made me lose appetite. Don't do it next time".

Sorry guys, been a very hectic day...

The transfer was for $2495, and just to recap, GT charges on FX transfers are as follows:

0.5% Swift Charge on amount being transfered, which in this case boils down to: $12.475 ($12.5 aprox.)

Vat (5%) on the swift charge= $0.62

Telex charge: 4k naira.

Now from the attached screen shots, abeg what was the conversion rate?

Re: Class Action Suit Against Gtbank For Misleading 199/$ Card Charges by bdavis: 2:12am On Mar 03, 2016
A while back, (not sure if on this thread) I mentioned a circular (email communication) GTBANK was sending around to customers, titled 'Tips on International Transactions' or something similar like that, which was supposedly to enlighten us (the customers) and help save us as we carry out transactions online.

The circular claimed that by choosing to be charged in dollars, cost savings would be achieved as opposed to choosing to be charged in naira. This was and still is a blatant lie and was only done to trick it's customers, and thereby defraud them of their hard earned money. People who do online (international) transactions frequently, would be aware that there are sites, such as Google Play store and AMAZON, who either let you specify the currency you want to be billed in, or have already converted to naira for you, once their geo-location software has identified your region. What this sites do is they always use the official CBN rate, then add a little for overages/other charges so you get billed say in the region of 200/$ to 210/$.

Now by saying pay in $ and don't choose to pay in naira, GTB is simply demonstrating that the only thing that matters to them is how to rip customers off, because choosing to pay in $means the bill for settlement such websites present would be in dollars and GTBANK would thus be free to apply whatever rate they choose to apply.

As I write this, GTBANK has chosen to decline all international transactions that are not being presented in $. You can no longer purchase from amazon, unless you change your currency to $, € , or £ and if the site has already done conversion and is presenting costs in naira, your transaction won't go through.

Attached is screen shot of the circular

thanks for the screenshots
however i noticed this was a wire transfer, and their arguments has always been that the dollars used for master card settlement is determined by the software and can not be manipulated so i ask again if you have a software that cant be manipulated where did the glitch as they claim came from? and why did it take them as they claim 3 days to find it and short it diwn? and why didnt they just contact customers for a bilateral settlement if truely it was a glitch instead of unilaterally taking a decision and penalozing customers for their own errors or delibrate mistakes.

To All Non-GTBank employees monitoring this thread,

Kindly take a lesson from #GTBankScam back to your managment. It is an eye-opener that Nigerian Institutions (Financial, Legal, etc) were part of Mega-corruption going on in this country.
International business owners charged slightly above CBN rate due to administrative charges e.g
1. Amazon as at March 1st, 2016 charged 208 Naira (admin charges inclusive) to $ to calculate your purchase, but our greedy banks will decline the transaction unless you select "$", or other international currencies.
2. KLM Airline here in Nigeria will charge around 200 Naira to $ to pay for your airline tickets.

So, who is killing who?

Foreign investors (US & EU) will NEVER come to do business with you as long as corporate scamming exist. Such environment only attracts "rabies" from China, India and Arab countries into our business sectors.

So, before you blame GEJ & Buhari on current events in the country, be aware that ripple effect of your actions are killing this country more than ravaging plague.

gtbank sent this response to me after communicating with them.

Thank you for contacting Guaranty Trust Bank Plc.

We apologize for any inconvenience caused by the recent glitch in our system which led to a wrong application of the exchange rate on our Naira MasterCard for international transactions. This has however been resolved and adjusted to reflect the correct exchange rate hence transactions blocked at the incorrect rate (N199) will be settled at the correct exchange rate (N299)

Gave instructions that the commission and all other processing fees/charges should be deducted from my naira/savings account, so only the actual outward FX is deducted from the dom account.

ICPC ke? I laugh, I have faced same problem with another Nigerian bank before. Though, my issue was resolved through their help, but it should be the last sort.

Most importantly, are you guys prepared for their wahala? Have you read the act that established the agency? Do you know what it takes to involve them? Are you ready to spend more monies?

There are other governmental agencies that can handle this issue before involving ICPC. Make una use una head think wella, else, na kirikiri straight.

I Don't know how true it is, But i was told that Lawyers do not sue Banks, that they don't have jurisdiction over customer Bank issue, that is only Bankers committee that has the power to do so, somebody should educate me on these please.

Jethrolite:
Please believe me, even frontpage won't get much done. I have been through all of this before. It will only result in more frustration but if you say it's not about money and you have money to blow then sue Gtbank hq. Before suing, write a letter seeking redress, it will cost between N20-100k to have a lawyer do that for you depending on the lawyer. If the bank does not respond, another letter is sent. If no response then you ask your lawyer to file a suit. All these things I just mentioned will set you back at least N50k.

Question: If over the weekend, GTB has issues with the ATM system and withdrawals were not reflecting on your balance, so you mean people like you would go ahead and keep withdrawing your daily limits on all your cards and in your right mind conclude that since the bank made an error, your christmas has come early? You know what is right, you know the rate GT charges for card transactions. Why does it shock you to be charged the correct amount The hilarity is just too much.

Get the fact right Sir.
