Missy89: Can you tell me how the system has failed women cos the last I checked boys and girls are given the same opportunity from a young age? They attend the same schools, have the same tutors, do the same exams etc.? And when it comes to employment opportunities, it's far easier for women than men. Women just can't compete with men - that's the honest truth. And even if they were to pass this bill, it won't change anything cos men will always outperform women. Now compare it to race where blacks and whites are culturally different and the system is more favourable to you depending on ya shade. Then you've the generational bridge where whites are far richer than blacks and the schools in black communities are the worst schools. However, in cases where blacks and whites are given the same opportunities - the black kids always outperform the white kids. That's a fact and you can confirm that in any middle/upper class environment. Leave race out of it. 1 Like |

dearpreye:Hope u guys are not forgeting that we have a constitution? It does not define a law in respect to sex, everybody is equal! Wat difference will the bill make from the constitution or is it because it is only a woman/girls bill that it has to be passed even when the federal constitution has no gender inequality? Moreover between women and men,who are treated with more violence? 1 Like |

SirShymexx: You were arguing that you cant give black women a mile few minutes ago which to means you think the system is not equal when it come to gender now you think the bill wont change anything. If that is the truth, Why did the bill fail to pass since it is that insignificant? You are making assumptions before the fact that it wont change anything When you make this comparisons one will assume that men and women had the same head start. I took a long time to women to even be able to vote or get into STEM programs. Elizabeth Blackwell who was the first person have a medical degree in the US was admitted only because her male peers allowed it. how is it really different from race? It is not as if every race had the same head start after the industrial revolution 3 Likes |

Daverytimes:I don't understand what u mean by illitrate because i also likek his comment? The problem with we Africans is that we are still in slavery. Our leaders are colonising us economical while the west are colonising us mentally by making us believe their way of thought is supreme! What has equal rights done in the western states? I don't even understand while we are talking of equal rights when the constitution does not allow room for inequality of persons. 1 Like |

Missy89: You're conflating two things here. What I posited about "you cant give black women a mile" has more to do with how belligerent women would get when it comes to their traditional duties (cos black women are notorious for translating everything upside down e.g the African woman's translation of feminism), not opportunities. When it comes to opportunities, both genders are given the same opportunities from a young age. I'm sure you attended the same elementary/nursery, primary, and secondary schools with boys...but how come the boys outperformed the girls? Ditto college and university? Whatever bill they want to pass won't change anything since both men and women have equal rights/opportunities. I think the lousy bill has more to do with face value than anything concrete cos last I checked women in Nigeria are allowed to attend any school of their choice and apply for any job. How does head start negate the fact that men are out competing women in almost every facet today that they have the same opportunities? Is head start the reason why Hilary Clinton failed woefully as the US secretary of state and John Kerry had to clean up her mess? Ditto Madeleine Albright? Comparing race to gender is as asinine as comparing gay rights to black racial struggle. Stop it. 1 Like |

Daverytimes: Please who denied the basic human right of women? The Nigeria Constitution has already given every one the same right(Chapter IV of 1999 CFRN,Section 33-33 as amended) So why should the bill be passed? Should we also pass into law,the right of children, the right of men,the right of physically challenged citizen et al ? 2 Likes |

lesbiangirl: Ive looked at some of the provisions of that bill and frankly they are impractical. Employment and other opportunities should be on merit. Some of the other issues such as inheritance I believe should already be addressed adequately in the existing laws |

Most of Nigeria lost it when 20 new federating units were progressively created from one northern federating unit, but only 17 new federating units created for two southern federating units. On independence day in 1960, three federating units - north, southeast and southwest agreed to form one independent country. North must not have 19 states +Abuja new federating units. With three senators from every state, northern Nigeria with more Muslims thus literally owns Nigeria. Others can speak dogon turenchi in the NASS for hours, at the vote, north has it. Who must be president, the north has final say, and in a big way. No federal country created new federating units with use of land mass as criterion, as was done by northern soldiers in creating Nigeria's 36 states+Abuja political structure. For example, who can think of dividing the large states of California and Texas in the USA into about four new states each, without dividing the smaller US states in the same proportion? Omo Igbo have been crying for political restructuring in a democratic manner, but some Nigerians don't understand why. 1 Like |

SirShymexx: So let me ask you since you keep throwing this statistics around. Are you saying both genders start attending schools at the same time? Did they have this opportunity at the same time from the inception of colleges and universities Even when women started attending school in huge numbers it took time before they started getting into the STEM programs you are using as a yardstick. I would love to see the same stats as per social sciences etc. Your cabinet positions examples are just not worth debating. First, these people dont set policies they only implement them. Secondly, if we are to use your logic, are you saying Condi Rice cleaned up Powell's mess after making dubious a case for the Iraq war at the UN? 4 Likes |
Re: Nigerian Senate Fails To Pass The Gender And Equal Opportunities Bill. by Lecturebidz(m): 2:22am On Mar 16, 2016 |
SirShymexx: When we were children, the girls helped their mothers in the kitchen, sweep the compound,,weed the farm, fetch water and do some low energy consuming work while we the boys, tilled the soil, cleared the bushes on the farm and in the coompound, bring down trees, built huts and mounted dried woven grasses on it,went hunting and did all the hard jobs. We were told that men are stronger than women thus hard to do the hard jobs, today we are hearing of equal rights. If women want equal rights, they should start treating their children equal so that when that generation comes everything will be done equally. 2 Likes |
Re: Nigerian Senate Fails To Pass The Gender And Equal Opportunities Bill. by SirShymexx: 2:36am On Mar 16, 2016 |
Missy89: No, we're talking about modern (contemporary) times. Girls and boys start school at the same age. Attend the same schools. Have the same tutors etc. So that's equal opportunities. When women started getting into STEM programmes is inconsequential. What's is their performance vis-a-vis men now that they're in it? So, implemented policies are the reason why Hilary Clinton was undiplomatic in her approach as the US secretary of state, the reason why she effed up almost everything, and also the reason why she said "we came, we saw, and he died" after assassinating the leader of a sovereign country illegally? Would a man have done that? Are they also the reason why Madeleine Albright decided on her own accord at the last minute to turn a blind eye to the Rwandan genocide? Also, what mess did the utter failure, Condi Rice, clean up cos she's one of the most hated Americans ever, while Colin Powell remains one of the most loved Americans ever, despite his imperfections? Powell was never part of the war brigade apart from assisting them in lying, hence he left the position. However, Condi Rice was one of the brains behind it, hence any time folks talk about Bush, Cheney, Rumsfield, et al, they always mention her - yet they never mention Powell's name. The funniest thing is that: all the women in Obama's government, from Susan Rice, to Victoria Nuland, et al are some of the worst people to ever hold any position. Or are implemented policies the reason why Victoria Nuland opened her mouth to say "Fvck EU" in Ukraine? Women are just generally incompetent and too emotional. Anyway, I'm out. Respect the man...you can't be the man. Play ya position. 1 Like |

SirShymexx: Lol @ modern contemporary times. But when it comes to race, You were talking about Imhotep How about you discuss race since lets say after jim crow or apartheid? Keep deceiving yourself. The example you are citing from politics does not make any sense. Nuland, Hilary did not hold any position of authority. If a man was in the position of Nuland, tell me what he would have done differently. If you want to talk about female incompetence, Please cite the ones that actually hold positions of Authority How about you compare Schröder to Merkel , Lagarde to DominiqueStrauss-Kahn, Barra to Akerson , Rometty to Palmisano etc Those are powerful women that will match their record with their male counterparts any day. Stop comparing them with bureaucrats who are mouth pieces and foot soldiers of different administrations. 5 Likes 1 Share |

Nigerian Senate women with their estranged marriages. What useless advancement is there making the feminine gender equal to the masculine gender? Did you know women never were to be existed had it not been for the request of a man? Did you know there was a reason why the Messiah chose only men as His apostles? Western way of life has already done more harm than good to us. Man! Nigerian women, where are your morals? CookieBrown: You dont have to insult people to make your point. We may have divergent views but its not excuse to be rude. Learn to be civil when commenting. Btw few years ago when the ineffectual buffoon signed anti-gay bill into law, you all hailed it because homosexualism is against our culture and tradition. So what has changed between then and now You supported govt to make laws based on "african tradition" then, so you can not be heard to complain now. This rejection of equality bill is firmly in line with our tradition. Women are lower than men in africa, period! 1 Like 1 Share |
