Lol

I can't believe you are failing to see how your race argument can be related to gender inequality. You think the system is preventing blacks from outperforming or competing with whites yet the system just failed women from having necessary protection that will make them competitive and better protected and that shouldn't be an issue.

Whatever u say.

Can you tell me how the system has failed women cos the last I checked boys and girls are given the same opportunity from a young age? They attend the same schools, have the same tutors, do the same exams etc.? And when it comes to employment opportunities, it's far easier for women than men. Women just can't compete with men - that's the honest truth. And even if they were to pass this bill, it won't change anything cos men will always outperform women.

Now compare it to race where blacks and whites are culturally different and the system is more favourable to you depending on ya shade. Then you've the generational bridge where whites are far richer than blacks and the schools in black communities are the worst schools. However, in cases where blacks and whites are given the same opportunities - the black kids always outperform the white kids. That's a fact and you can confirm that in any middle/upper class environment.

Leave race out of it.

Gender equality is not part of our so called African tradition but looting, tribalism, ethnic cleaning, jungle justice, worshipping of thieves , etc , are a part of our African traditions? Isn't it?

At Topic : How could a corrupt and depraved Senate with the likes of Yerima, a known paedophile or Dino, a known wife beater, support such a bill?

I'm sure you've not even read a page or course from such a great bill. If you had, you won't tow the path you did. The bill seeks to eliminate ALL forms of violence and deprivation against our women. What's wrong with allowing our women become all Providence has empowered them to be?
Hope u guys are not forgeting that we have a constitution? It does not define a law in respect to sex, everybody is equal! Wat difference will the bill make from the constitution or is it because it is only a woman/girls bill that it has to be passed even when the federal constitution has no gender inequality? Moreover between women and men,who are treated with more violence?

Wait, Oga common sense wasn’t at this sitting?? Because I sure cannot see his name amongst those that spoke in support of the bill. Oga common sense, you are not a Twitter senator o! Don't go on Twitter and be supporting Bill that you didn't actually vote in favour of.

Why am I even surprised? How many women do we have in the Nigerian Senate?? Remi Tinubu and Oduah, I hope y'all defended the bill too? This should even be the first problem. The average Nigerian man with the average education and exposure does not believe in gender equality, not to talk of the less-than-average, masochistic brains in the National Assembly. So really, I shouldn't be surprised that this bill was thrown out

No way! Who am I kidding? I am shocked! Nays have it on a basic fundamental human rights issue??!!

I'm so not proud to be a Nigerian at this moment. Shame!!
Ma but we have a constitution which subscribes to fundamental human right nan what is the need of passing another paper again?

You're conflating two things here. What I posited about "you cant give black women a mile" has more to do with how belligerent women would get when it comes to their traditional duties (cos black women are notorious for translating everything upside down e.g the African woman's translation of feminism), not opportunities. When it comes to opportunities, both genders are given the same opportunities from a young age. I'm sure you attended the same elementary/nursery, primary, and secondary schools with boys...but how come the boys outperformed the girls? Ditto college and university?

Whatever bill they want to pass won't change anything since both men and women have equal rights/opportunities. I think the lousy bill has more to do with face value than anything concrete cos last I checked women in Nigeria are allowed to attend any school of their choice and apply for any job.

How does head start negate the fact that men are out competing women in almost every facet today that they have the same opportunities? Is head start the reason why Hilary Clinton failed woefully as the US secretary of state and John Kerry had to clean up her mess? Ditto Madeleine Albright?

Please who denied the basic human right of women? The Nigeria Constitution has already given every one the same right(Chapter IV of 1999 CFRN,Section 33-33 as amended)
So why should the bill be passed? Should we also pass into law,the right of children, the right of men,the right of physically challenged citizen et al ?

Boys outperform girls in maths – weekly news review

Research of the week
Girls lack confidence in maths and science

A major international study, based on the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development’s (OECD) tests and surveys, suggests girls lack confidence in their ability to solve maths and science problems. The research found that girls do worse than boys in maths, despite outperforming them overall. Boys come out top even among high-performing students.

But girls were found to have a more positive attitude to school in general; many read for pleasure and were less likely to play video games. The OECD said: “Even many high-achieving girls have low levels of confidence in their ability to solve science and mathematics problems.”
http://www.theguardian.com/teacher-network/2015/mar/06/boys-outperform-girls-in-maths-weekly-news-review

^^^And that's despite the fact that they study more than boys. Boys spend more time playing video games, yet they smack girls in STEM. grin

Most of Nigeria lost it when 20 new federating units were progressively created from one northern federating unit, but only 17 new federating units created for two southern federating units. On independence day in 1960, three federating units - north, southeast and southwest agreed to form one independent country. North must not have 19 states +Abuja new federating units.

With three senators from every state, northern Nigeria with more Muslims thus literally owns Nigeria. Others can speak dogon turenchi in the NASS for hours, at the vote, north has it. Who must be president, the north has final say, and in a big way.

No federal country created new federating units with use of land mass as criterion, as was done by northern soldiers in creating Nigeria's 36 states+Abuja political structure.

For example, who can think of dividing the large states of California and Texas in the USA into about four new states each, without dividing the smaller US states in the same proportion?

Omo Igbo have been crying for political restructuring in a democratic manner, but some Nigerians don't understand why.

Even when women started attending school in huge numbers it took time before they started getting into the STEM programs you are using as a yardstick. I would love to see the same stats as per social sciences etc.

Your cabinet positions examples are just not worth debating. First, these people dont set policies they only implement them. Secondly, if we are to use your logic, are you saying Condi Rice cleaned up Powell's mess after making dubious a case for the Iraq war at the UN?

When we were children, the girls helped their mothers in the kitchen, sweep the compound,,weed the farm, fetch water and do some low energy consuming work while we the boys, tilled the soil, cleared the bushes on the farm and in the coompound, bring down trees, built huts and mounted dried woven grasses on it,went hunting and did all the hard jobs. We were told that men are stronger than women thus hard to do the hard jobs, today we are hearing of equal rights. If women want equal rights, they should start treating their children equal so that when that generation comes everything will be done equally.

No, we're talking about modern (contemporary) times. Girls and boys start school at the same age. Attend the same schools. Have the same tutors etc. So that's equal opportunities.

When women started getting into STEM programmes is inconsequential. What's is their performance vis-a-vis men now that they're in it?

So, implemented policies are the reason why Hilary Clinton was undiplomatic in her approach as the US secretary of state, the reason why she effed up almost everything, and also the reason why she said "we came, we saw, and he died" after assassinating the leader of a sovereign country illegally? Would a man have done that? Are they also the reason why Madeleine Albright decided on her own accord at the last minute to turn a blind eye to the Rwandan genocide?

Also, what mess did the utter failure, Condi Rice, clean up cos she's one of the most hated Americans ever, while Colin Powell remains one of the most loved Americans ever, despite his imperfections? Powell was never part of the war brigade apart from assisting them in lying, hence he left the position. However, Condi Rice was one of the brains behind it, hence any time folks talk about Bush, Cheney, Rumsfield, et al, they always mention her - yet they never mention Powell's name.

The funniest thing is that: all the women in Obama's government, from Susan Rice, to Victoria Nuland, et al are some of the worst people to ever hold any position. Or are implemented policies the reason why Victoria Nuland opened her mouth to say "Fvck EU" in Ukraine? Women are just generally incompetent and too emotional.

Anyway, I'm out. Respect the man...you can't be the man. Play ya position. grin

Lol @ modern contemporary times. But when it comes to race, You were talking about Imhotep shocked How about you discuss race since lets say after jim crow or apartheid? Keep deceiving yourself.

The example you are citing from politics does not make any sense. Nuland, Hilary did not hold any position of authority. If a man was in the position of Nuland, tell me what he would have done differently. If you want to talk about female incompetence, Please cite the ones that actually hold positions of Authority

How about you compare Schröder to Merkel , Lagarde to DominiqueStrauss-Kahn, Barra to Akerson , Rometty to Palmisano etc

Those are powerful women that will match their record with their male counterparts any day. Stop comparing them with bureaucrats who are mouth pieces and foot soldiers of different administrations.

Did you know women never were to be existed had it not been for the request of a man? Did you know there was a reason why the Messiah chose only men as His apostles? Believe me if this bill was passed, you will start seeing lots of divorce cases from gold digging women as it is applicable to foreign countries!
I mean what does the silly bill tend to achieve by giving women equal right in marriage and divorce! Tah!!!

There is a reason God made woman from the rib of man and no woman is equal to a man!

**modified**
Just saw the part of the bill about violence against women, I think that aspect should be adopted in a separate bill and passed.
#Say no to violence against women.
But for equal rights? Mba!!!
1 of d worst mistake a white man did is to say man and a woman are equal.,

Lol next 20year, pls stop decieving her, neva mind nigeria, evn the united states in all of their over 200 years of existence hv neva had a voted female president, why did u tink obama won, the real truth is becos it came down to hilary or obama. They decided to finally give the black dude a chance becos deep down they didn't want to go for hilary, in history (1920s) thr has only been one acting female president one edith wilson, woodrow's second wife, she ran the oval offic for 17months after her husband was incapacitated by a massive stroke and back then the US constitution didn't say wht will happen if the president becomes incapacitated (it does now). The only woman that had some reasonable power was the speaker OBJ used power to put, u see wht happnd to her, 144milion setup. If the freeiest country could not evn for once vote a woman president evn if its just to prove a point to the world how then can nigeria, a country driven by relegious believes, pragmatism and prejudice. Nah!!!! So dude could u pls kindly tell the lady the truth by adding one more zero behind ur 20. Its only fair
