Honestly I am all for adults doing what they like. But we keep getting stories of women in court, footing all the bills why these same men are cheating constantly and spreading disease. If you look closely the woman's parents were against the marriage. Similar case I read on a blog. A woman abandoned her family, and tried to brush up this guy. The guy ended up poinsoning her and marrying another woman as second wife. She was weeping and lamenting at what she did to her family. If you want to go against your family all well and good, but the man better be worth it. For a woman's family to reject a man at her age, tells me something is off about the guy. But if she insists she can go on. I prefer if it is a guy's parents that object and he is the breadwinner than the other way around. Cause women always have more to lose in a bad relationship.

Very complicated story today of one of
my acquintances in the University (Kris
Madugba), who was arrested by the
police for marrying his wife, Nono Orji,
without her parents permission or
blessings. My thoughts on the subject as with many like this, is this. Things
should never be allowed to
degenerate to this level. Parental
consent is very important in any
relationship and inspite of the ideals of
liberalism and freedom holding sway in the world today, people who are
getting married should strive to get it.
But parents have the worst guilt as far
as I am concerned. It makes no sense
to give your child all that education
and expect to control a very important decision in their life like who they will
spend the rest of their life with after
they leave your home. The essence of
all the education they have had is to
be able to make their own decisions.
Parents can talk of all their investments on their children. But yes that is
nothing short of what they deserve
since they(the children) did not asked
to be brought into the world. You
brought them into the world and its
your duty to bring them up. That does not however give you absolute
control over every area of their. Their
are many other ways parents would
certainly be rewarded for their efforts
on their children. You can love your
child but you cannot love a child more than he loves himself. Being over-
protective of your child usually results
in this kind of messy situations. If your
children insist they are sure of their
decision about who to marry, just give
them your blessings knowing fully well that they will suffer the most of

So you mean he/she must remain unmarried when he/she is of marriageable age and desires to marry so long as the parents refuse to give their useless consent? My friend pls try and get small common sense and do not let religion deceive or mislead you. Dont follow it sheepishly. Although parents' consent is good but it is NOT a must. U can dispense with it when they refuse to give it. U are an adult and ur educated for that matter.

My point is no one is saying don't marry but when you ignore the very people that natured you, believed in you, provide for you and invested in you to become who you are before you started marking your own decisions you might end up alone on the other side of the divide when the quake of marriage comes, 99% of marriages go through a stage of marital quick the rate of survival depends on the foundation of the marriage and it's support system...which the young man and women are obviously ignoring a brike called the parents. These parents did not illegally detain the man that want to marry without the consent of the people that gave birth to the very being he wants to marry. My point exactly, with all the stories going on. One should know that family love is the only love worth fighting for. If your parents are against its time to re consider your options, these days marriage are more like business contract. You never know what your partner has in store waiting for you . Even thou they seem so eager to sign equity with you without blinking. You lose the love of family you stand alone. Coz when push comes to shoves every blood will looks for his or her umbilical cord or those that shared thesame rout.

These parents did not illegally detain the man that want to marry without the consent of the people that gave birth to the very being he wants to marry.
