You made some valid points. Like you mentioned earlier,if a lady is to marry without her parents consent she should make sure the guy is worth it and again make sure the guy has an outstanding parents too who supports their decision.

My annoyance is with some parents who rejects a girls choice based on flimsy excuses and to satisfy their own interest.

Guy the police did not just jump into the matter uninvited, read the post again, the parents of the girl used the police to arrest the guy because they did not give consent to they marriage hence they believed their child was HYPNOTIZED believed she was in danger, so they called the police, for all I can say their is more to this story. Highest an African will do is say we count us out of your life since you decide to marry without us but ones they involve the police be rest assure their is more and everyone tries to protect what they love. The fact of the matter is, it is how the girl presented him to her parents that caused this. Also being that he is also igbo, we can rule out tribalism as a cause. Even if the girl is the impulsive type, the guy ought not to be. What happened shows that they are both impulsive and childish. Which is not a good trait at all and can never sustain a marriage. If they try and the girl's parents are still hell bent, it's best he leaves her where she is. I don't know why people want to be where they are not wanted. Is she sure that this man she is fighting for will go against his family for her? It's very rare to find a man that will do this. They will push to do for their own gain, but when na to reciprocate, story go enter the matter. Human beings are inherently selfish and they take a lot of advantage of other's.
