Sorry about that.. Maybe that's not the type of environment for you . Your writing skills and articulation are quite amazing for a Jambite. Introverts are deep thinkers with some innate abilities!

OP, don't be hard on yourself. I had similar experiences but I just developed a tough skin. I find small talks and chit chats very dumb and really can't deal with people who gossip. I have changed jobs several times, and I have met people like me and also met people who complained about me, my I don't care attitude has been working for me.

I just focus on learning a lot, getting the job done and looking for opportunities. Every other thing or person can chill.

What matter is you being intelligent. Thus improve yourself academically and be mentally alert to suppress the perceived introvert-ness

I recently took on a job, about few days ago (less than two weeks), as a office assistant/ Computer operator at an office located at Ojudu Berger. This is partly because I had just finished the just concluded Jamb utme examination and I was less-busy at home and I needed to develop work ethics and gain professional experiences that would be vital in future. There are TONs of stuff you have to learn while being in this position & I was doing great making photocopies, taking passports, and even helping out in typying. When we are less busy, My boss comes for a chat with my co-workers﹑ which they eagerly and actively participate but I don't. Not because I do not like my Boss or I'm avoidant, but I prefer being at peace with my thought and value my personal space. Then I noticed after few days, Her behaviour and mood towards me changed for the worse as she shouts at me and insults me if i make mistakes, Ofcourse, That's not a problem, but the hurtful part is she hurls insult on my personality. She says to me "You stand there like mumu'', 'Dondie'', 'Lookie lookie like deaf and dumb' e.t.c .
But today at work, I made a mistake with taking a passport photograph due to the fact that the pressure was much coupled with the over-crowded enivironment. She instantly got annoyed and said she can't tolerate a dull and mumu person and that I'm too dull. She said I should leave.

I was pissed because I had not been given a chance to learn everything needed to know Yet. I think this was really unfair since I was not even given a chance to improve. She said blame me for being an "observer", but she had to let me go.

I'm not sad this happen but this had triggered my incentiveness and challenged me the more. I'm even courting an idea of developing a start-up.

You took the job because you needed to gain some office/work ethics but you got fired even before you could completely spell your name. Don't be dismayed though, you were in that office/job to learn, and you sure just learnt your first lesson about life in the labour market. Failure is never failure except you fail to try again. At least you've just learnt a way not to work in a busy office.

Someone that is an office assistant? Obviously his first job? Notice he just finished jamb. Probably a young chap. Besides which employee is perfect? We are all in a job to learn. Everyone makes mistakes. This is why you have a boss. A bosses intelligence and ability is based on how they manage a subordinate. So she has failed as a boss and a business owner. She could not train talent or channel talent for her own benefit. She is the foo*l here. Not OP. She is obviously one that enjoys indulging in idle gossip and mindless chatter. Probably couldn't keep a serious job because of this. Now she owns a one man show where she can spend most of the time talking rubbish. Instead of challenging employees to come up with ideas and solutions.

Many a time, most people do mix up gutlessness and laziness for introversion. Excuse me, from what you stated above, you come across like a gutless and lazy person and your introvert nature compounded it.

Confident and hyperactive introverts never have issues at their work place or with people in general. I am a confident, maverick and hyperactive introvert and I command admiration, trust and respect of people wherever I find myself.

Op, we live in a world that is obsessed with introversion. The bitter truth which many of us refuse to accept is that team work is not everything. Don't allow your boss' ignorance to weigh you down. I will like to recommend a book for you, it is titled; Quiet: the power of introverts in a world that can't stop talking. All the best dude!

The truth is that ur introverted personality makes u look like doondi in a fast pace work place..

Secondly, ur mistakes sends the signal that u re dull which u Might not be.

Thirdly, working in an environment where inter-personal skill is required won't be ideal for your personality.

I once had a colleague like you, his dondiness made me like him cous I controlled him nd could use him to commit.
The management managed him cous they believed him coming from Badagry to apapa everyday made him dull until he got transferred to another branch were he started his 1st day with query.
badt guyyyy! Thanks for the laugh grin grin >

If you can't engage in women discussions, that means if your bosss is a man, you will be totally mute alll through out the work day........ learn to engage in conversations most especiallly in work environment.. As per your mistakes, even she herself (your boss) do make mistake.. no man/woman in perfect... Nice experience for you.

In a serious work environment, being an introvert shouldn't matter. It is your productivity that should matter. If everyone is busy gisting, how does any serious work get done? She is an unserious lady and her business will soon run down.

An introvert is actually a deep thinker, and quite intelligent and creative. Your type is an asset to any organization if your talents are Channeled properly. Please look for a serious company to work for. Don't feel bad. You just worked with a shallow and dull set of people.
thanks..thanks..thanks..you were really inspiring..ma everyday life is relating to the OP's discussion..am even called a "Loner"

I'm sorry this happened to you. I don't blame you...much. I blame that ex-boss. She's an intolerant and immature person.

See, I'm an introvert also. I'm also very reserved. More than 10 years ago when I first moved to the university hostel, I was usually alone and quiet and rarely spoke to anyone. Up to a stage where one loud, popular guy insulted me with "That mugu wey escape slowpoke". It really hurt me, but I didn't let it get me down.

Years later, I've graduated, gotten scholarships, traveled abroad, gotten jobs, done countless interviews, made public speeches...

I'm still an introvert and still find it hard to socialize and make friends, but I keep trying to NOT let my introvertedness hold me back/down. I keep learning to do new things, meet new people, experience new opportunities. This is what you have to do.

You need to learn to socialize more. It's important in this modern, fast-paced society. Learn from this recent experience, and use it to develop and improve yourself. Cheers and all the best!

...you need to learn basic interpersonal relationship skills...as a matter of fact, it's a catholic mandate for all professional workers; irrespective of their disciplines..

...I understand that you're an introvert, but still, asides from regular hellos and beddy bye byes, try to strike a conversation and fuse in one or two things whenever there's a discourse between staff and boss - trust me, nobody likes a loner; especially in a country like Nigeria where bosses are in a perpetual state of paranoia...

...you carry only a meagre portion of the blame, so stop beating yourself...it's either your boss just doesn't like your face; superstitiously believes that you being a quietist is a memento of doom for her business; is in her trimesters of pregnancy, or possibly menstruating - women are after all, very snappish & irascible during these periods...grin

...stop crying over spilt milk; start forwarding your CV to other organizations...

Well I think the fault is entirely yours.... I am a shy person and I don't talk much in d midst of people, but I always make sure that I chip in one or two things....laugh at both funny and dry jokes.... and force myself to be interested in what ever the group is saying.... cos trust me even if u are in the midst of your peers.... they will consider u irrelevant

Your ex boss would have thought about u as a sadist...and u know it's not good for her business. so learn your lesson now for your future jobs

...do you even know the meaning of the word "sadist"?...

"laugh at both funny & dry jokes?"...in order words, he should be deceptively fulsome?...
