Even if you're accompanied to the consulate with your oyinbo in-law, her status as citizen won't influence the decision of the visa officer.

So forget about the "affidavit of support and other documents she sent to the consulate. It won't work.

(i) You do not need a copy of her passport.
(ii)You do not need any affidavit of support.
(iii)The invitation letter is inconsequential.
(iv)You can apply at any time when you've pencilled down and critically analysed your strong ties to your home country.
(v)You do not need any document from her to attend the interview, all you need to get the visa is convince the visa officer that you will return back to your family and job at the end of your visit.

And why can't your brother invite you? Why must it be your in-law? Don't tell us he's been living in the US illegally for 20years.

To avoid a visa denial. You must convince the visa officer of the following.

That you're travelling for a legitimate purpose permitted by the visa category you wish to apply for.

That your financial situation is such that you can afford the trip without having to seek unauthorised employment in the house US.

I'll advise that you work on your strong ties, as the law places a burden of proof on you to prove that you have strong ties in your country that will compel you to leave the US at the end of your temporary stay. Actually, there is no standard definition for ‘Strong Ties.’ What constitutes strong ties will differ from country to country, city to city, and individual to individual. "Ties" are the various aspects of your life that bind you to your country of residence: your family and social relationships, employment, and possessions. Some examples of ‘ties’ can be family, a job or business, a house, a bank account, and investments. Each person's situation is different.

Consular officers are trained and are ware of this diversity. During the visa interview they consider professional, social, cultural and other factors each person presents.

As part of your strong ties, follow this thread like your life depends on it. Make sure you open it daily. It works like magic.

Not to comfortable with your 90k monthly pay. But if you are able to show that you make good profit from your other biz, that is fine.
If married, your wife's financial state can also be of advantage to you.

Please if you are not sure of your brothers status don't drag him into...

The VO still have the final say .

You have to understand that your ties is assessed by your circumstances as a whole. If one tells u for egs that 8000k is sufficent and you go to borrow and keep that amount in your account, is that a TRUE representation of your circumstance? No.
So the vo adjudges you on everything about you. That is why statements are RARELY looked at.
As for I'd and iv, you can decide to carry it if it gives you confidence. That does not contribute to your ties.

Thanks for all the info, i'm gettin it now

@cmeo there are so many factors that people consider when making flight choices. What I could consider negligible could just be your own personal nightmare.
Take for instance, I hate flying. And cos of that I need in flight entertainment to keep me distracted. I also like the stop overs. Crazy right? And quite frankly the standard of prefessionalism between arik staff and say Emirates staff is incomparable. That's just a few.
Will I now let go of my personal quirks just to fly a home grown flight? Nope. That's the essence of competetion. If u say fly arik because they are good, yes not because they are Nigerian. That's the starting point of mediocrity. They should up their game mbok.
Me no de fly arik even if dem wan sell ticket for 150k
I love stop overs.... And In flight entertainment is a must.

Because of the volume of applications that are received, visa officers are under considerable time pressure to conduct a quick and efficient interview. Your business documents, employment papers, certificates, financial documents are inconsequential for the interview, therefore the onus is on you to convince the visa officer under two minutes that your employment and other businesses are subsisting and you are doing well financially with a lovely family. The key dey your mouth, nor be papers.

Hello People,

Please i need professional advice on how to approach my travel plans. I have been working here in Dubai for almost 2years now and i just got married December 2015,I have traveled to South Africa, Kenya, Turkey ( twice ), Italy and Spain, all these visas i got from here in Dubai with no stress. I wish to take my wife on a trip to the U.S.A but because she hasn't gotten her residence here, she can't apply from here ( I was also advised by some peeps to apply from home country ) with me so i am planning on coming back to Nigeria to apply there with her. I would like to know if i can use my statement of account here to apply over there in Nigeria because i don't have a salary account there in Nigeria since am working here in Dubai. I also wish to know how long I need to apply prior to our travel dates and how close are the interview dates after putting in your application online.

Thanks

Quite monotonous now. Sounding and coming across as one that is very unsatisfied or so with previous answers and advice. Have you tried these questions out on the NIV thread with the VOs? You don't need to proliferate this particular thread with just this one repeated set of questions! As you read, ask new and specific questions and clear more of your doubts in the areas you need light. Come up with new question coinage please, make this whole thing interactive, that will help you and us all! Cheers

I am a motivational speaker. I go to primary and secondary schools to organize seminars and take a photo section with the students at the end of the seminar and have N4m in my account. What are my chances of getting a tourist visa, how strong is my tie to Nigeria as a motivational speaker and also what are the criteria for extendending the visa while in US as I would also like to study in US when I get there by obtaining a student visa over there.
