This attitude of Nigerians and I don't care attitudee towards our neighbour is d reason things keep getting worse, dear landlord pls call ur tenant to order. He may listen to you as he owes u, he may respect u and listen to u.
I think the society is geetting it all wrong this days, gone are those days wen we are our brothers keeper, wen ur neighbour will be the one to train ur children for u in ur absence. Things where better those days, promiscuity was not this pronouced bcoz we where our brothers keeper. Parents can't be everyhere everytime so neighbours do their jobs for them attimes by spanking a wayward child. But this days ur neighbour sees ur child dressed trashy and just walk pass bcoz its not their biz. And thesame people see those children online half unclad and say wat is this orld turning into, sister it is turning to wat we have made it.
Dear landlord please call d man and hear his own part of d story and advice accordingly and ask for ur rent to be paid in installment.

Some women can frustrate there husband especially when things are not like before. This make the man to go out and once they get the needed support elsewhere. They move. As per your house rent, its your money. Call the husband or who is responsible for the payment to ask for your rent.
But since you said the man was a responsible man then, maybe God can use you to settle whatever happen. You can call him and hear his own side of the story so that you can help settle whatever it is.

I had this line of thought too,

OP least you could do for his "vulnerable" family whom you pity is trying to get to the man, talk to him man to man. That might actually work.

by justification of being non sentimental, he is owning since last year, I still service his flat. Should I evict him in this economy? I have more than one house with tenants, but where I work currently am a tenant there. So oga a tenant is also a human being. And I am trying to be human and shoe compassion. I have ignored the fact he hasn't paid because of the economy. So am not being religious or sentimental

The issue here are twofold.

One, non payment of rent. Your business.

Two, frolicking out of wedlock by a tenant. Not your business.

Mr, if you are asked to explain how, as of Nov 2015, you were renting a rat filled room outside Lagos, and then by March 2016, you own property in Lagos, you should be able to clarify this.

How is it possible you can afford property in Lagos but cant get reasonable accommodation outside Lagos?

Kiddo your future will be bright too if you took ur life seriously than wondering about the truth or lies in someone who witnessed the bicentennial and doesn't give a damn about ur opinions. By the way if I could lie here of owing houses, I could also have lied about renting a rat infested home. Don't forget am a liar and a broke ass nigga living on the streets. So chill and enjoy ur day.

His being unfaithful is personal. The issue is your bills/rent not being paid.
Write or call him for a meeting to pay before a set time therefter if hw fails then issue the quit notice.
Its your house now

hahahahahaha read my chest beating post. Enugu and aba are there. Learn some geography of ur nation. Those should be in the south East. If I built it, I likely lived there or will live there. The problem with kids like you is that. Your horizon about ur own country is very narrow. You could have gone abroad sef, but still ur horizon is narrow to think as an igbo man I won't be happiest in Enugu compared to the slum called majority of lagos.

Thanks all. The response has cleared the guilt I had. No point trying to speak to him about his behaviour and exactly how such is affecting his obligations to me rent wise. Will call him at most on Monday and issue him the quit notice. Though I pity him. He has always been a reasonable man. Where he learnt this disgraceful behaviour is surprising. I have lost all respect for him.

Oga Landlord what's all these gnashing about your tenant's "disgraceful, Unreasonable, and bad behavior"? You sha get your own too oh! because its obvious you like amebo so much to assume the widow is using juju and entertaining side talks from a so called 'reliable source,' rather than engaging your supposedly good tenant in a man to man conversation to hear from him.

There are no facts here. You have only written on assumption why he hasn't paid you.

You no dey run things or cut small shows with 'okpeke' apart from your wife? So your tenant should be judged and crucified because his own is obvious to you abi?

NO MAN IS PERFECT.

DEAR LANDLORD,
In responds to your mail,
Do you want advise on how you should recover your unpaid rent or, go about his eviction without hurting his wife and kids?

Or, are you indirectly bringing up his promiscuity with a widow for us to judge him here? Do you like the widow too?
Best Regards
Moi.

listen I am always of the opinion that if a man cheats, keep up with ur responsibilities to ur immediate family. This is my house, I don't need fighting or murder when the wife finds out. This is a struggling woman who would likely react badly. Now I can't call him because it's am admission of gossip, which actually I didn't do. Except that those who didn't want to go tell his wife directly, proffered to tell me in hope I can resolve the issue. My anger was that he paid the house rent of the other woman and is still owing me. I was being nice thinking he is having challenges. Now I know that is not the case, let me ask you. Maybe I should have kept quiet till he abandons the family, who I will be too emotional to send packing because of the little kids and thus the stay longer in my home without payment? Or I call him and the woman decides to attack her in law who came to make the report. I need my rent, I was willing to be patient with him, but can I remain patient when he pays rent for his runs?

His personal life is none of your business, what matters to you most is his financial buoyancy. Serve him a quit notice; what happens to his family does not concern you as it is all his doing.

Good one there!
The op is an attention seeking liar who may even be the tenant refusing to pay his Yoruba landlord. The moment I saw "This Yoruba family" in his post, I knew it's a load of cow dung. The poor chap is living out his fantasy on nairaland grin and with all these "I caught", it's only a matter of time before he catches an asteroid. He's probably jobless and frustrated.

Sir,
A meeting with your tenant doesn't entail dabling into his private life (so that you don't get insulted). It should be based on your rental business only. The first meeting determines your subsequent line of action in order for your follow up to be justified with a clear conscience, that you had tried your best to help his family. So, a sudden 'quick notice' without hearing his reason for delayed payment, is not justifiable at this stage hence he'll twist the matter as though you are wicked.

ABOUT HIS RUNS; THE SPIRITUAL CONTROLS THE PHYSICAL SO, SECRETLY PRAY FOR HIS OPEN MESS AND FOR HIS FAMILY.

GOD WILL HONOR YOUR PRAYER TO RESTORE HIS SANITY.

EVERYTHING WILL BE FINE EDDY.CHEERS!

I zoned out the moment I got to the 'This Yoruba family' part. I may be wrong but there's something about this op that strikes me as an attention seeking tribal bigot. Nice pieces of advice given though, it could come in handy to a real landlord that needs it.

I see you have a good heart, call the man aside and talk some sense into him. Some people might say it's not your business but to me it is.
