Patience is what's needed at this time. We're all suffering but we have a high hope things will always get better. Let's stop wailing and pray for our dear nation.

LudaChriz:
AS the economic situation drives deep welts into the flesh of Nigerians, there is a growing air of melancholy and despair as the Federal Government appears lost for options to bring succour to the people in the near future.

The economy is biting hardest in the areas that impinge directly on the people’s material and social wellbeing, with steep drops in the supply of electricity and petroleum products, thus threatening the resilience and ability of Nigerians to survive. Both sectors are undergoing some of the worst and most prolonged stretches of scarcity.

For instance, in March 2016, power supply dropped to unprecedented low levels between 1,580 megawatts and 2,841 megawatts just before the Easter holidays, barely hours after President Muhammadu Buhari had promised to add 2,000 more megawatts into the national grid by the end of this year while aiming to top off to 10,000 megawatts by 2019.

Most parts of the country have endured lack of power supply in the past three months, and yet the Federal Government supported plans by the electricity distribution companies to jerk up prices in spite of poor services; an action that brought Labour and civil society groups to the streets in protest about two weeks ago.

Usually, when power supply gets nasty, most citizens turn to their generating sets for comfort, which means sinking a large portion of their income on petroleum products, such as petrol and diesel. The situation was compounded, however, by the scarcity of petroleum products, which has also held sway on and off for over four months.

The fuel scarcity is blamed chiefly on the inability of independent marketers to raise foreign exchange to import fuel due to the strict policies of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to protect the Naira and the nation’s foreign reserves.

The careless talk of the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources and Group Managing Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), Dr Ibe Kachikwu, that he did not have a magic wand to restore full supply within the immediate future, sparked angry calls for his resignation.

The fact that the Ministries of Petroleum Resources and Power are manned by President Buhari/Kachikwu and Babatunde Fashola, who operate at the highest level of executive function of the Federal Government makes this bout of petroleum and power scarcity seem beyond the capacity of the Federal Government to grapple with.

We demand that the Buhari government does something to alleviate the plight of Nigerians. It must come up with solutions as soon as possible. This is the time to translate the “change” that the people voted for from negative to positive change.
Nigerians need immediate relief, not apologies or flippant talk from those in leadership.

That is what Nigerians voted for.

When you are not there it is easy to analyse and criticize but when you are in power you will fighting with forces within and out.

The truth about Nigeria is that we don't have a SYSTEM that is working.

The way some people walk ehn, you'd think all they want is for this Government to fail. But why will you want your country to be in disarray just cos you want to prove you said so? We need to change our mindset to really move forward in this country.
God bless Nigeria.

This is no longer (if it has ever been) a matter of wailers. My friend in Abuja just told me today that he is ready to join in any anti-government protest over same issues of power and fuel supply. He said he had to get up at 2am to shower due to excess heat as a result of PHCN blackout and of course, he cant keep running fuel through out the night at nearly N200 a litre. My friend said it's been very bad in Jos, Plateau State and a gallon goes for as much as N1800 because a taskforce is chasing/arresting black marketers so it is now an underground market for fuel. A friend in Port Harcourt has been roaming from station to station like a nomad in search of fuel at official price. He cant afford to buy at N150. People, we are grappling with a national emergency! My understanding is that we have raked in money from recovered stolen funds and locked up so much in the TSA. It is in time like this that critical thinkers and out of the box executives/financial managers manifest .. we need prompt and pragmatic delivery of promised changes. Excuses have expired and are not acceptable/tenable.

Fashola who was constantly critical of the previous government over power issues now seem utterly helpless, clueless and unusually quiet when directly entrusted that same responsibility.

Similarly, PMB who in the past verbally attacked the government of the time over queues in gas stations is now surprisingly silent on the chronic fuel scarcity across the country.

Moral Lesson: remove first the rafter in your eyes before you see clearly how to extract the straw from your brother's eyes.

What is Mr Buhari doing with over $300 billion so far recovered or returned from the corruption fight? shouldn't part of that money be channeled into building more power plants? Why is 3 trillion lying fallow while the people's economic social and political wellbeing is zero? who is using the interest accrued from these funds?

300 billion dollar from where ?

Dude.. We gave the Nigga 4 years.. Dont be in a hurry to judge..

Sit back and let them work their Change.

I feel the hardship, I feel the pains, I feel the sufferings, but I have faith. If after the 4 years elapses, shiit remains the same, I will vote for a different Candidate... AS LONG AS ITS NOT THE PDP.

Its time to demonopolize our Polity.

The truth about Nigeria is that we don't have a SYSTEM that is working.

That's exactly why everyone, both those in power and those in the opposition, should work together to ensure a better nation for their people but the APC destroyed any remaining vestige of patriotism with their de humanising and senseless criticism of the last administration. It's PAYBACK time.

Well, what we really need is a workable SYSTEM - one that doesn't have to depend on the whims and caprice of any one man to succeed. We need to build strong institutions.

When GEJ was in power and he was been criticised for somethings, what I told people was "he who wears the shoe knows where it hurts". The same set of people that called GEJ clueless becos he couldn't address some of Nigeria's problems are the same people finding it hard to move forward. For the APC e-warriors ready to jump to say "give them time", i'll ask, weren't they aware of the issues on ground before making promises of transforming Nigeria with a year? Petrol was never a problem in the past admin. At this point I will call GEJ a prophet when he said "Nigerians will miss me when I leave"

When some peps were chanting "change" against "transformation" I was just laughing cos they never understood that change can be via positiva or via negativia. Even Barrack Obama's change mantras, almost ruined the US politically and economically as they are now trailing behind Russia and China. Americans are now screaming "Make America Great Again"

Personally, I will prefer a corrupt govt that believes in transformation to a holy one that believes in an unrealistic change. Corruption is a human fault and it functions in all govts worldwide. Infact everyone has his leg in the boiling pot of corruption.

Let all of us park well and enjoy this "change" untill 2019. If you are fed up with the change, you jett off and leave the country.

If I see anybody come her to cry that we are suffering or that we have been scammed; i will lash that person. Everybody must enjoy this change for it is what Jega said we voted for last year.

Mr Buhari and Apc are playing occult and refusing to disclose full amounts recovered. Now, when you put 2 and 2 together, you would discover that over $300 million Abacha returned loot is shrouded in occult, 3 trillion in TSA, $150 million returned or pending from USA, Mtn fine and all secretly returned money by politicians which is in excess of $100 billion. now, when you consider all the accrued interests on this monies you will be captivated by the amount of sleaze ongoing in this administration.

1.On fuel...it is obvious....subsidy has to go so that marketers would have the cash to import fuel. Sure...prices would be high...but they would fall (see the GSM experience).

2.On power.....let's be honest....it is going to take ten years to fully improve generation, and sort out the wretched transmission system that we have right now. Either way...we must increase power supply because it is key to getting us off oil permanently.

thr is no subsidy at the moment. abi u no hear price modulation?
the policy of buhari is that of zimbabwe.
u know the two countries hv 1 thing in common, they r lead by ancient n brain dead men!
nnpc is doing a job of 10 people, how will they deliver?
why not share the job to other marketers that r reliable so they can also help them?
dont tell me there is no forex, whr is nnpc getting its own forex to import?
dont forget they r now responsible for the entire imports of fuel which is 40million litres a day to nigerians. n the fed govt thru cbn gives them facilities which is dollars at the official rate of 199naira per dolls to do their transactions but deny other marketers both the major n independent access to forex at the same official rate.
what nnp need do is partner with 3 or 4 major marketers to assist them cos the work load for them is much.
n someone will say buhari is not the one calling the shot at the petroleum industry, who would reason like dis if not buhari.
