bro it is done and it is possible in japan a few yuan would get you an unlimited acess to the internet, and no speed throttling you dont have to pay _stupidly to access what developed countries acess cheaply
are you comparing mature company that has paid for its towers with new company that can only roll out in Lagos and Abuja,. do you think few yen will pay for 30 million naira towers times 600 (18 billion). mind you they are competing with companies that have over 3000 towers each. do the math bro

I swear u are more confused. Did u mention anything about 18mb/s? Didn't I say 18mbps. And yes I know u have to divide that by 8 to convert it to mb/s. Getting a download speed of 2.5mb/s is not too bad for a 3.5g network. With that speed I can download up to 8gb in 1 hour. Problem is speed fluctuates but the average speed is around 8mbps. Pls next time read well before quoting me.
converting 8mbps to mb/s gives you around 900kbps and this is Nigeria's so called fastest gsm network provider where one is supposed to pay close to 15k to get 20gb of data? Dude stop justifying _stupidity. Check your previous mentions to see where i countered your mtn claims. Stop pretending you didnt see it. Life network led us to this, they maybe on 3g but they offer better data nice speed for nice price. Mtn that doesn't even have 4g charges 10 times more than a network in Japan that gives full 4G .. And you keep claiming using a 4g phone which I don't know if you are trying to say automatically gives you nice speed in this present Nigeria that has no 4G!! I currently use an iphone 6s which i switched to LTE but still speed is nothing different from 3G.. I use Airtel and Etisalat.. I will end here! You are justifying Nothing!

Guy, Internet speed is measured in mbps and not MB/s. Download speed is measured in MB/s. And how many times will I say this, the rate at which u download data is dependent on the server hosting what u are downloading. Even if u have an Internet with speed of 100mbps if the server hosting what u are downloading is slow, u are going to get a slow download. Me getting 18mbps speed doesn't guarantee I will download files at 2.5mB/s. It depends on the amount of bandwidth from the server I'm downloading from. And stop confusing mb/s for MB/s. They are both different. The former is megabit per second while the later is megabyte per second.

So bro, the correct way to measure Internet speed is mbps. And when I said 8mbps I meant average. U can see the pics from my mtn this morning, I was getting up to 14mbps. Is it faat enough for 3.5g? Yes. Can it be t better? Yes. But one thing u should have in mind is wireless network Do not always operate at maximum speed. If u want maximum speed u need to go wired connection, that is the only time u can have steady Maximum speed.

I must salute for your constructive explanation to people that always say that network providers provide almost impossible prices for unlimited data without been throttled down when a certain Data cap is met. I don't know if people think nobody has gone outside nigeria.
Nigeria currently has some of the cheapest offers on data but I know it can still improve.

answer this question are we to say AIRTEL Glo etisalat and MTN price and data are okay when compared to other developed countries data allocation and price?

Thank u very much. It is good to know some people actually know how these things work. In Malaysia I subscribe to TM fixed wired Internet and I pay about RM120 for a month. That is about N6,000. For the first 8 months I never knew it was capped. I was getting speed of up to 30 mbps. It was later I realized it was capped at 20gb. What they do is after u have exhausted ur 20gb, they will throttle ur speed to about 1mbps until ur plan expire. Now that is for a fixed wired connection. For wireless it is more expensive and u won't get that speed on a constant basis.

It is more expensive here in Nigeria no doubt. Look I pay 2gb for 2k on mtn. It is still cheaper than what at&t offer in the USA dollars vs naira but I'm not going to calculate it like that because our standard of living is different from theirs, plus they offer lte which we don't have. If mtn can keep their speed constant to around 8mbps 90% of the time and reduce their tarrif a little bit then I won't complain. This is a wireless network for God's sake, don't compare it to wired.

Even the average lte speed in the USA is 12mbps while in the UK it is 13mbps. Before u quote me, remember I said average and I assume u know the meaning of average. Do ur research. New Zealand has the fastest with 36mbps followed by Singapore with 33mbps.

nobody is comparing a wireless network to a wired network. Thank God you said their standard of living is different. Mtn offers a price of 500 for 50mb .. Justify this _stupid plan. And again why are their little or no wired plan in Nigeria? is slinkman now right to ask for an unlimited data of 5k monthly from Ntel? They could still make their cashes through call tarrif and sms, if they plan to introduce that too. I see nothing wrong in it, Developed countries are doing this..

My point is 5k for unlimited data on wireless LTE is almost impossible. It is possible on wired though. And if u are paying 500 for 50mb on MTN then u are on a long thing when u can pay 2k for 2gb.

Nobody offer this price any where in the world. Yes we want it to be cheap but 3,500 for 9gb? On a 4g lte? Shey u be that famous Infocenter wey dey always post his scam sme data share everyday? On top of that 5k for unlimited data lol.

Anyway all these prices are still possible. In fact it is very possible to offer 20gb for 2k, but the take is they will give u a very throttled speed, say 20kbps, make u come tell me how u go take finish the 20gb within 1 month. This is the same thing glo is doing, their plans are cheap but to make their sim browse u need to fast and pray.
Regarding the bolded, Airtel offers exactly the same plan.

i am currently on the 3500 for 9gb on airtel which is very fast and gives me a speed of 2.5mbps although sometimes it goes down to 1.5mbps , before that i was on etisalat 2gb for 2k which exhausted much more faster than I thought.. I wanted switching to mtn so I decided to google their network that was when i saw that mtn speed caps and the 500 for 50mb i just hissed and hated them the more and went with Airtel! If airtel can give 3500 for 9gb considering they aren't as rich as mtn and the new coming Ntel which was previously Nitel , why won't mtn and Ntel be able to give out an unlimited data for 5k or even 6? Currently mtn has no unlimited plan for any price.. I even saw 18k for 20gb on their site..very silly network

Just like I said, unlimited is possible for cheap butbit depends on speed. See I pay 2k for MTN 2gb , though expensive but I wanna see any network beat that speed in Nigeria right now. I get up to 18mbps on my MTN. The picture below was taken this morning and I was getting 14mbps. The only thing they are not doing in this country is to throttle down speed once u exhaust ur data instead of disconnecting . if ntel can do that then it is a welcome development.

that speed when converted shows 1.5mbs which both airtel and Etisalat beats hands down

If they get it right with their data service in terms of speed, pricing and other value added service, they can be sure I will be one of their customers.

The best services being offered by existing networks should be their minimum standard.

Oga, Internet speed is measured in mbps or mb/s and not mB/s. Download speed is what is measured in mB/s and the speed at which u download things online depends on the server u are downloading from. Why don't u show me the speed of ur airtel in mbps.

I use Internet speed test or speed test master. I doubt if those apps are available on ios but I can download speedtest.net and we can use that. And what website do u wanna use? Also the speed this afternoon cannot be like in the morning I hope u understand. What is one thing with those mobile networks. But I average 7-8mbps steady, morning and night it goes up to 15mbps

the best way I can xplain it to u is to think of it as the core of the internet. It is like a representation of www such that for any service provider to link a customer to internet, it must be connected directly to it(the internet backbone) it is mostly in advance countries and that means for a network or internet service provider (ISP) to give internet it will be connected to it.
Typically the less develop countries and their ISPs connect to it by running fibre optic cable (High data transfer supporting cables that use light rays to carry data like voice n sms) through the bottom of the ocean over thousands of miles to get to a backbone in Europe (Europe is closest and cost friendly) thus incurring higher running cost.

Cool down and learn, we are all learning here. I can guarantee u that this app measures speed in Mbps (megabits per second) which can also be written as Mb/s like the one in the picture u posted. The mistake u are making is that u are mistaking MB/s which is megabyte per second for Mb/s .Take note in megabyte per second, the M and B are in capital letters. So the speed u are getting is 3.8 megapits per second which is no way near MTN 14 megabits per second. With ur speed what u are actually getting is 0.47MB/s (megabyte per second) of download speed.

Pls do ur research and come back and reply me. If u don't believe download speedtest.net and run the test. U will see ur speed is in Mbps.

Pls note: airtel Nigeria 3g is not capable of producing 3.8MB/s, dude that is like 30mbps on a 3g. Not possible bro.
