Those who change their names to such are kids.
Bros Facebook is not LinkdedIn, if they want something professional they should ask for Linkedin account.

it's real oooo, people get turned down for this.
I have a friend working for an Audit firm in Lagos, he said his firm check for your social media accounts through your CV contacts(mail and phone number), if none tallies, or you have a crazy name combo, they just send your CV to the thrash bin.
Let's be real in what we do, if you wanna be a street dude, leave the corporate world and live the street.
Business is business, if you have art works(tattoo) on your body, try as much as possible to cover it up while you work for a monthly pay till you have enough to start your business.

I'm really not gonna bore you with how the whole interview went but it actually was going well until I was asked to give my facebook Id....

Considering how the hr was enjoying my response to his questions, I happily told him my facebook Id. Putting the name in the facebook search box, nothing of such was shown, he(hr) then said I shld spell it and I did that without a second thought(I never knew customising a facebook id is a job seeking crime). After spelling daniel omoniyi(not real name) as dhaniehl homohniyhi, the man said " I'm so sorry, we can't hire you".
I was so confused that I had to ask him why, and he said " your facebook id look unserious and fake, please use the door".

This is one of the little things we job seekers do not pay much attention to. If someone had opened that account for me, perhaps I will be looking for a way to kill the person now.

Still trying to get over losing a job over "just" a facebook Id.

Lesson learnt anywaiz.
You should have told the HR person to go eat his own poo, he must be stupid. What's his business with your personal facebook page?

No you didn't. But you need to include a disclaimer. The story is ridiculous.

Even when you are employed HR also do their digging on you.
In other words, "slavery".

Served you right ,what is homohniyhi? To me you are more or less tout. You prefer to write your name in English pronunciation. I really love that employer. You behaved like a kid.

researching on you is not slavery. You can't just employed a stranger in your company and not do research.

This is one of the biggest lies ever told! Which employer asks for your Facebook I.D? It's completely unethical. Number 2: you were shown the door because you customized your name on social media? Abeg get real and stop telling tales!
Let's just hope you don't bite your fingers when remembering this particular thread in the future

What if that's associated to the job he is seeking ?....and apart, he never knew that was a crime. ...that's why he finished it up with "LESSON LEARNT"...I just learnt that too like most people just did....always listen to. Corrections. .. .hope LESSON LEARNT...??
And who said I needed this correction? You just feel like quoting me? My frirnd many people are quiting FB and it is hailed as a bold step. Not everyone cares to flaunt their lives on social media and that is very okay. Kids everywhere sha. So because I gave a way out means I did not read and comprehend the subject? Or that I need correcting or a lesson to be learnt? This is why our youths don't see beyounf their noses. Too quick to assume.

These are not "Akara and moi moi companies", it's the trend these days for some recruiters, it gives validity, some other form of background check.

My advice, Have a LinkedIn Profile and keep it professional, I have been asked to include this in my application before.
dude trust me. For the fact that you had a one on one with the recruiter and he asked you to log into your face book, it is a moimoi firm that has no alignment to skills and professionalism. If your facebook name and not what you posted can disqualify you, then you are better off eating a shit sandwich than working there, if professionalism and skill aquisation is ur goal

Got a mail from a company that I should apply for an open position
The mail was something like this:

Dear Nnnnn Black,

Warm Greetings !!

We are blah Currently we are in search of blah position with a leading ..................
Designation : Blah
Job Location : Blah
Salary : Negotiable & Competitive
Job Description: Blah
If interested please send an application letter and a recent CV to james Curtis at james.curtis@comp.com

I rushed and sent the mail and less than 24 hours I got a rejection letter and in the letter the HR said I can inquire why my application was rejected...

I did and the rejection was because I said DEAR SIR instead of DEAR JAMES CURTIS cry cry cry... You said you pay attention to details

Refer to the op's statement that I quoted sir, researching on a prospective employee is in order, just as everyone researches and asks questions about a prospective employer. But digging into their personal lives when they start working for you is what I referred to as slavery.

Its facebook name.. not waec name.. these people should chill abeg.
Icon4s:
grin

I always see names like:

Holuwadhamilolah Hogunkoyah
Holuwasheyi Hafolahbih
Hadehtohkumbor Hadehmorlar and the likes.

That thing pisses me off. If I was that interviewer, I would have done same.
He was right, people like that are unserious. They take life too casual.

Not using your real name might mean that you have got something to hide hence a company may not trust you enough to hire you.

Next time tell them you don't do facebook. That you spend your free time on your hobbies and you rather chat face to face or personally call or message with real friends than gather a million friends you do not talk to in real life. They will hire you instantly
NO!!! the reactioun will be the same "use the door"
Re: How I Lost A Job Because Of A Customised Facebook Name by Nobody: 3:25pm On Apr 06, 2016
The HR was right.. Why on earth would you deliberately misspell your name to sound funky. Secondary schoolers do that a lot. It is an unserious behavior

Ridiculous reasons Nigerian employers reject applicants. How does ur personal life affect corporate environment. For God sake it's ur personal space. Globally ppl have Tattoos, does that hinder them from delivering. Companies like Facebook, Google have basketball courts, pool rooms in their offices. Bleep Nigeria and our hypocrisy. I wish u success in other opportunities BT that employer is definitely a useless one.
