Next time tell them you don't do facebook. That you spend personally your free time on your hobbies and you rather chat face to face or personally call or message with real friends than gather a million friends you do not talk to in real life. They will hire you instantly

What if that's associated to the job he is seeking ?....and apart, he never knew that was a crime. ...that's why he finished it up with "LESSON LEARNT"...I just learnt that too like most people just did....always listen to. Corrections. .. .hope LESSON LEARNT...??

You had better thank your lucky stars for losing out on the job for such flimsy excuse. I'm pretty sure your experience at such company would have been horrible going by their pettiness.

It's beyond ridiculous for them to tag/judge you as unserious for a mere pseudoname

Its better to use a nickname on facebook than adding unwanted flavor to your real name. To me, such act is childish. I won't employ you either, because I will just put it under the account of un- seriousness.

Exactly wat the hr said... The name shows how unserious I was

I'm really not gonna bore you with how the whole interview went but it actually was going well until I was asked to give my facebook Id....

Considering how the hr was enjoying my response to his questions, I happily told him my facebook Id. Putting the name in the facebook search box, nothing of such was shown, he(hr) then said I shld spell it and I did that without a second thought(I never knew customising a facebook id is a job seeking crime). After spelling daniel omoniyi(not real name) as dhaniehl homohniyhi, the man said " I'm so sorry, we can't hire you".
I was so confused that I had to ask him why, and he said " your facebook id look unserious and fake, please use the door".

This is one of the little things we job seekers do not pay much attention to. If someone had opened that account for me, perhaps I will be looking for a way to kill the person now.

Still trying to get over losing a job over "just" a facebook Id.

Lesson learnt anywaiz.

It is either you are lying or you think we are 5 year olds.

That's a sorry case. Although I don't see why you should be disqualified for your user ID.
But truth be told I see people with such name spelling as being childish too.
No offence OP.
Better luck ahead

It impinges on your credibility as an individual. I wouldn't hire you if your social media account(s) turn out to be inconsistent with what your story has made you to be.

I love this .....Buh painful u missed ur chance. I had written an article in time past against customized Facebook name, I remember then that my sch daughter attacked me, Buh was able to convince her.

Mark Zuckerberg created it to be an avenue to reunite people that have lost contacts. A guy also share testimony on how his old time friend was able to link him for a job in his company. his story goes thus " my friend, who knew that I could do a certain task with ease then in the school days, remember my name when the opportunity came up, Buh we have lost contacts then, he was able to get me tracked via my facebook. if I had used funny name like "horpheyemi, Holuwhathobi etc. wat will have become of me

pls friend it does not make any sense customizing ur fbook name.

Truth is little things count even when you believe that those things do not matter.
Imagine a young girl being asked for her email address only for you to get things like ngoosexy@yahoo.com, lizzyhotlegs@gmail. Even the men come with the likes of ; kentoughwaist@yahoo, etc.
All simply points to un seriousness. It's therefore surprising when someone with a name like precioussweetwaist@yahoo.com starts complaining of sexual abuse.
Remember, he who fetched ant infested firewood actually invited the lizard to dinner.

i had this experience when i was been interviewed for the present job am doing now in a multinational oil firm in PHC. when my fb id was requested for i gave it to them. after browsing through, d leader of d pannell asked me to go out. after few minutes i was called to come in. oblivious of what transpired while i was out i braced up for the worst cos the post i have on my wall page are too weighty. but i still got the job after going thru all d stages of d interview

I don't think the lesson has been learned.

People who intentionally spell words incorrectly to sound "cool," usually end up losing their ability to communicate effectively in business settings.
When I look around Nairaland, I notice Nigerians have become the kings of "shorthand" writing.

This wouldn't be too terrible if the "short version" was actually shorter than the correct version. In essence, people just spell as many words as possible in gibberish. e.g typing "anywaiz" instead of "anyways."

Regardless of how prolific you are, constant use of incorrect alternatives WILL affect you. I'm sure you have seen the effect firsthand.

You might think the HR person was being mean or petty, but in reality he made a good call.

However, don't let it get you down. We live and learn (if we are willing). Good luck. smiley

Thank you ma'am. Love the last paragraph

I remembered an applicant once applied for a job but lost it during the final interview with the CEO of company, just because his email is maxilinogunit4real.... The CEO of the company interpreted it as (Maxilino GUN IT 4 Real). He told us, he suspected him to be a cultist. A serious job seeker should use the modest email available. And, please note that if you are the type that posted rubbish online, better you don't give out your social media IDs to your employer, until at least you have gain their confidence.

This is probably a low budget one man business! Trust me you are better off loosing the job than working for such lowly companies without proper structure!

You see no real standard company would do it that way. What I mean is before you are even called background checks would be done and if they see such crappy facebook pages you wouldn't even be invited for the interview talk less of getting a one on one with the HRM!

The fact that they even told you the reason you weren't hired is ludicrous talk less of checking it in front of you? Wow!!

Oga please even if they call you back run!!

Such lowly unprofessional companies are rubbish!

Seriously that thing is just dumb and very stewpid... isn't it so surprising we complain how our names are misspelt in certifications or when someone pronounces it badly den come online to spell our names wrongly by ourselves..

If I were the HR, I wouldn't even only ask you out, I will make sure you never apply for any job in the company.

This is one of the biggest lies ever told! Which employer asks for your Facebook I.D? It's completely unethical. Number 2: you were shown the door because you customized your name on social media? Abeg get real and stop telling tales!

Well let us not judge because the guy hasn't even told us the position and the job duties he actually applied for. Mayb it warranted that. If not I feel fbk is too social in nature and I feel a person could do as he feels just to socialise with his peeps. If the HR was professional he would have asked for his Linkedin account which is a professional way of networking.

Sorry Man always pray and ask God for favour in your daily endeavours.
