U-23 Goalie Emmanuel Daniel not ready for Super Eagles
[/size]

Nigeria U-23 and Enugu Rangers Goalie, Emmanuel Daniel snatches the ball off the head of an opponent.

Enugu Rangers goalkeeper Emmanuel Daniel has said he “feels great” with his performance after the side were forced to a 1-1 result against MFM FC in a top of the table clash at the Agege Stadium on Wednesday.

Daniel has enjoyed a rich vein of form with the Flying Antelopes and the U-23 Eagles but the 21-year-old says he’s not getting carried away with the praises nor is he in any haste to force his way into the Super Eagles until he gets an invitation.

Abegi this guy to me is our 3rd best goalie in this country. Only Carl Ikeme and Daniel Akpeyi are better than he is.

He is ahead of Ikechukwu Ezenwa.

He should be invited to the Super Eagles after the Olympics.

This is where you get it wrong. Some are more special than others.

You want us to approach every Anglo-Nigerian player we see in England?

Sorry, we only need the exceptional ones.

Yes, you are right we need only the exceptional ones that is why Sunday Oliseh went for Iwobi ahead of Dele Alli.

Hmm, you are very correct and that's why, in Nigeria an Academy player deserves to be called to the National team ahead of established premier-league players.

Even Alaba is now enjoying the double standards criteria. Very good for Nigeria Football. # clapping. grin

I know the angle from which you are looking at it. But I have to ignore and reply you with a plain mindset.

Though both players are Nigerians but one is more Nigerian the other.

Dele Alli was born in England though also eligible to play for Nigeria.
While Alex Iwobi was born in Nigeria and also eligible to play for England just also like the case of Victor Moses.

Besides, Iwobi's uncle, Austin Okocha played a major role in Alex's decision to play for Nigeria. And again before Oliseh approached him Iwobi had already made himself available for Siasia's U23 Screening late in 2014. Dele Alli I doubt would have made himself available to Siasia even if invited.

Dele Alli and Ross Barckley are too English rooted to even consider Nigeria as a choice of Nationality.

It's easier for a 29yr old vardy than a 20yr old prodigy from Africa. That was my point
BascoVanVeli:

No it was not easier for Vardy, at age 24 he was a non league player. He made it up the hard way and that should be respected. How can u say a 29 year old finally making a name for himself had it easy.

forgiveness i concur that we should at any opportunity seek to get our best legs (in your case foreign born players) but the truth is it's not as easy and straight forward as you make it seem. most of these anglo-nigerians grew up in the english system so they will be tracked most of the way. players like solanke, barkley, dele alli etc were monitored by the english fa right from when they were kids so once they come good on their talent the national teams of england quickly snap them up. plus most of them being born in england makes them feel less nigerian (if they even feel so) and more english. if you observe carefully the few brit-nigerians we eventually get to play for nigeria excluding moses and iwobi are usually less talented players like efan ekoku, anichebe, aluko, rueben agboola who the english never considered for their national team so they choose nigeria as a second option. like icon4 rightly mentioned iwobi already had links to nigeria through okocha, with moses we were a bit lucky because the english fa dropped the ball concerning his case besides that he was born in nigeria. just be observing dominic iorfa his father is an ex super eagle international when push comes to shove see if he won't eventually switch to nigeria.

from your posts i also see you think that nothing has been done trying to get these foreign born players to feature for nigeria. bros you don't know how much ground work has been done approaching these guys. sidney sam german\nigerian was approached even begged with a world cup selection yet he preferred germany even if that meant sitting on the bench. patrick owomoyela the same thing, nedum onouha we sent emissaries to beg he use us do shakara said he ''feels'' english plus so many cases to numerous to count.

with alaba yes it was a faux pas on the nff's part but that was more of break down in communication. if they had assured him he would be picked in our other national teams (21s, 23s) and properly explained to him the reason for not picking him for the under 17s he might not have been so quick to switch to austria.

like most posters have said any foreign born nigerian has to demonstrate willingness to play for nigeria just like v.moses, l. balogun, carl ikeme, iwobi did before they were called up. even at that it's not every adamu, emeka and segun we should call up all in the name of ''foreign born player''. any such player we call should be better than what we have presently in our national teams. nigeria has many talented players born here or abroad so the chances of a few falling through the cracks are high but the nff should at all times ensure we get the best legs to play for us.

I see how you Nigerians like to reap where you didn't sow. After these white people have done nurturing players and giving them the platform and opportunity to excel and here comes the wretched Nigerians begging for allegiance... You Nigerians make me sick...look at our league, academies and general development of football!! Fat bellied eidiots running the nff, hiring and firing coaches as it pleases them at the nations detriment. Now you want to steal players you didn't groom. If I were England I will make sure you don't even get the worst players groomed in their country. Iweobi was a big mistake for England and I bet you they will never let such thing happen again. Ridiculous post. How can you call Nigerians losers? It takes time to grow. The EPL still needs foreign talents to keep their League lucrative. The English talents need foreign money to invest in their leagues.

I guess we should call them losers.

This is about young Nigerians making the best of their talents with the little opportunities they have.

Should we call people like Iheanacho, Success, Ndidi, Nwakali, Madu etc who made something despite the challenge losers?

What of the English FA that dropped Iwobi and did not give him a chance in the senior age grade sides, (hint of discrimination) I guess we should call them losers.

Gareth Southgate did not play Rashford in the U21 because he said he did not want pressure on Rashford.

Pressure on a boy who scored against Man Utd.

Every country have their challenges. So calling Nigerians losers is ridiculous.

Carl Ikeme was not born in Nigeria, Neither was Leon Balogun...

Recognizing yourself as a Nigerian is not a function of being born in Nigeria. It depends on a lot of factors. I have cousins born here in the US who still identify with Nigeria and they have hardly been in Nigeria. Maybe once in their whole life. It often depends on their upbringing.

Many of these players will play for Nigeria if approached.

This assumption that they will not consider Nigeria is flawed. The only way to know is to contact them.

We can not know all of them and approach all of them. The best way is to show interest.

Look at the case of the journalist saying if Solanke gets a call up from Nigeria, he will honor it. A news like that turns the radar towards him and if the coaches want him, they can give him a call up, even without an approach.

Is goo we reach out to them but their interest will go a long way in getting a call up from the coaches.

Approach the good ones.. Nothing stops the NFF from contacting Solanke or any good Nigerian kid out there. One phone-call or visit will clear the issue.

Help them make the decision to play for you. Players will play for who comes first.

Look at a player like Otigba who publicly rejected a call-up from Hungary. He might be feeling like a fool now because we have not even tried him once. He is still playing regularly for his club.

Players have to keep their options open so as not to lose out on both ends.

Imagine Solanke declares for Nigeria today rejecting a England call-up. And Nigeria never call him. He misses out on international football because he is trying to be loyal to Nigeria.

It is better when the country call you, showing their interest.

Otigba rejected Hungary and it was all over the media. The coaches know he is one of ours. His chance will come. Just like Awaziem, they know they will get their chances.

Instead of the foreign lads waiting for a call up from the NFF, they should declare their interests and let the coaches know they are available for selection.

The NFF did not reach out to Leon Balogun. Coach Keshi called him up to the team because he knew he was available for selection.

Why wait for the NFF while they have easier chances with the coaches?

How many years ago did Otigba reject Hungary? We were still playing Egwuekwe and kwambe in our defence. Keshi said, he did not even know him. I doubt, he is on anyone's radar now. Imagine how he must have felt watching Egwuekwe messing up at the confederations cup.

Do you know how many years ago, Ikeme declared for Nigeria? He was hardly given a look-in when we had Agbim as a national team keeper?

England were chasing Iwobi till the last minute but we let our best legs go and play for England without even a challenge.

Football is a career for these men, you can not tell them to stick their neck out when they are not sure of a favorable response. It is a risky move for them.

For players like Awaziem, Nigeria is their only option. So they have no choice but to wait.

Iwobi did not declare for Nigeria, He was called by Siasia to play for us. Siasia also approached Vctor Moses. That is the way to go.

No one wants them to switch allegiance. It is their wishes. If they want to play for us good. If they do not want, we have millions of footballers who can play and have never gotten an opportunity.

For players like Awaziem, Nigeria is their only option but he has not gotten a call up. Even to the Olympics team. His time will come. So will Otigba.

Remember, we have not had a steady Coach in the Super Eagles, so there have not been seamless integration of players into the squad.

Oshaniwa, Michael Babatunde and Hope Akpan who looked as if they were in are yet to get call ups.

As soon as the coaching position is sorted out, there will be time for integration. One thing is certain, the coaches know about Otigba and he will get his call up.

Dream Team Eagles Head Coach, Samson Siasia.

African Under-23 champions Nigeria have been seeded in the second pot for the draws of the men's football event of the 2016 Rio Olympics.

Fifa also seeded Africa’s representatives South Africa in Pot 3 while Algeria are in Pot 4.

"All 28 slots at the Olympic Football Tournaments Rio 2016 have now been filled and the nations involved are surely waiting with baited breath for the draw, to be held at the Maracanã on 14 April 2016 at 10:30am local time (3:30pm CET).

"Hosts Brazil will take the lead spot in Group A (men's tournament) and Group E (women's tournament), with the men's teams allocated into four pots based on a ranking taking into account performances at the past five Olympic Football Tournaments," a statement from Fifa read on Friday.

The draws proper will come up on Thursday, April 14, 2016, which will see the teams divided into four groups of four.

The Olympic football tournament starts on August 3.

Bros, i am not saying all the best players are foreign born. No! All i am saying is that we should get the best legs regardless of where they come from or who be their godfathers. Because recently i observed that you must know somebody before you can be called into the national team which is not suppose to be so.

Therefore, it is necessary for us to drop the biased formula of selective selection of players into the National team which are always based on sentiment, nepotism, na my brother... etc else we will continue to breed mediocre players and that will always bring the down fall of our football as we recently witnessed.

Now, you said Dele, Solanke, Barkley were monitored by the English FA right from when they were young. Right? Then do you think Iwobi and Victor Moses were not monitored right from when they were young? Or are you saying they don't have talent? Do you know how good Victor Moses was when he was at crystal palace? Do you know Barcelona tracked him at that time?

Bros, as long as they were capped by england at the age grade system then you should know England's eagle eyes were on them. So, saying England monitored some and didn't monitor some is already flawed. Saying they feel more English is also flawed because you don't know their mind.

Bros, as at the time nigeria got Victor Anichebe, Sone Aluko, Evan etc they were prospect too. We saw what Sone was made up of when he was at Rangers and his first six months at Hull city, he was smoking hot. But despite that Keshi preferred a home based player(Ejike Uzoenyi) and a seria b player(Nnamdi Uduamandi) to him. Players that never really had impact or added value to the National team. We also saw what Anichebe brought to the National team before they neglected him after he got injured during national duty. I can go on and on but time will not permit me to expatiate.

You said i don't know how much ground work had been done trying to make those foreign born players to feature for Nigeria. Maybe i don't know but if you know please kindly tell me more about it because all i know is that Nigeria always approach them when it is too late. That's it. Ok, what ground work are they doing to make Solanke, Sheyi Ojo, Onomah, Tiago Ilori( someone said Ndidi is better than him when Ndidi was still a bench warmer) is play for the national team? Remember, the Solanke said he would play for Nigeria if invited but...

Lastly, Iwobi was approached when he was nobody in Arsenal to train with the Under 23 by Siasia. Fact! Victor Moses who initially rejected bluntly to play for the national team was approached by Siasia before he agreed to play for the national team. In fact, he gave the condition of playing a Fifa-sanctioned competitive rather than a friendly match before he will play for us. We agreeded and he came to play. So, there was no where these lads demonstrated or showed any willingness to play for Nigeria publicly or officially. We went for them and Siasia was the man behind almost all the moves. We must show interest in them first if we really need their services. Thanks

U23 players and super eagles

U23 Players that are not ready

1. Amuzie (Echiejile and Madu would have done a better job)
2. Etebo (We have better players in that role)
3. Umar Aminu ( I like him but perhaps super eagles is a step too much now)

Wrong position
4. Shehu (Certainly not a right back, we have natural right backs that can be given a call, he should compete for a midfield role)

U23 players that should be there.

1. Isaac Success, (No replacement for Ighalo when he is not performing. Isaac Success and Ihenacho should be regular eagles material now)
2. Ndidi ( It makes no sense that this boy is not invited)
3. Awaziem ( certainly deserves a shot, best defender by a mile right now)
4. Tyrone Ebuehi/Ehizibue/Odubajo (Lack of quality right back options mean we have to start looking at some of our boys doing well abroad)
5. Esiti (Another man playing regularly that deserves more call-ups)

We need to revamp the team. I am tired of managing players like Ambrose and Oboabana or players that are not in form. Let us rebuild so that we can at least make the next nations cup.

@bolded no 1, That is what i am talking about. Some Nigerians are more Nigerians than others hence the selective selection. Is that not what you mean? shocked

2, is there any confirmation from the lad to back up your claims or is it from the figment of your thoughts or from the NFF?

3, is that the tactics used in discriminating or sideling other Nigerians from playing for the National team?

The paragraph that follows the paragraph u bolded explains what i meant.

Yesterday, Isaac Success started in the match against Malaga which ended at goalless draw. This time around he started the match as a RW and in the second half as a LW then finally as the main striker. He gave the ball away several times while trying to do leg over and was not really impressive in the first half. Although, he won a penalty in the second half but the referee mistook it for a free kick which was taken right at the edge of the box. Isaac Success later disappointed by missing a one on one with the keeper. Something he was supposed to have done with much seriousness and calculation but he put it away.

I no go lie. Ighalo better pass am well well. But the boy get skills oooo.

Isaac success was wasteful last night. He had 2 glaring chances to bury the game. Full of energy, speed and step overs, only his final ball lacking. He needs to calm in front of goal. Love that he got 90mins under his belt tho.

I love Michael Olaitan. He's definitely better than Eghenekaro Etebo in that midfield role.

Abeg, I know we can't get all the available foreign-born/bred talents but I think Nigeria should also focus strongly on getting the high potentials-laden defensive talents and not just attacking talents.

In fact, among the attacking and midfield talents, let's go for the possible stand-outs like Solanke who could add extra quality competition to an already potentially super competitive department.

Thanks goodness, we invited Oduwa to the U-23s. Now that's super quality for the future.

So in defence, our scope should look like this:

From Moses Odubanjo to Tiago Abiola Ilori to Kingsley Ehizibue and others such as:

- Tosin Adarabioyo
- Ola Aina
- Dominic Iorfa Jnr (his dad already said his son is for Nigeria at senior level though his son will choose finally at age 22/23)
- Ashinme Kigbu
- Tyrone Ebuehi
- E.t.c, e.t.c....

We still got Otigba in the wings. All these added to the likes of Awaziem, Omeruo, Madu, Musa Mohammed, and a couple of others already ours will see our defence not lacking quality options in the future.

We need "more than enough" quality options and rising top talents in defence just like we have in attack and midfield.

And one more thing, why do you like spelling "Omerue" instead of "Omeruo"?? Kilode?
