My brother, it amazes me when people simply refuse to use that grey matter in their head. Amaechi has been shouting himself hoarse that the National Assembly "REMOVED" the Lagos-Calabar Rail Project from the Budget. The simple question is: can NASS be accused of removing something that was never there in the first place? It is a different thing to say that they refused to accept his plea for it to be included during the budget defence. Amaechi who failed to include such a strategic project in the budget in the first place is now blameless while he uses his own mouth to insult the NASS? Smh

I guess you did not read this.

The Lagos to Calabar rail modernisation project was therefore included in the Senate Committee on Land Transports recommendation to the Senate Committee on Appropriations... Senator Gbenga Ashafa

For Christ's sake how can you make a recommendation in favor of a project that is not in the budget? Please let us remove sentiments when discussing very urgent National issues. A budget is submitted to the entire Assembly not to Committees. Even when aspects of it are directed to appropriate Committees for action, fact remains that the duty of Committees is to discuss WHAT IS IN THE BUDGET. Those saying that a supplementary budget was sent don't know what they are talking about; there can be no supplementary budget when the original budget is yet to be signed into law. In any case, my point was very simple: it does not make sense to say that an item WAS REMOVED from the budget if it was never there in the first place. Whether it was discussed by relevant Committees notwithstanding that it was not budgeted in the first instance & recommendations made is a different thing altogether

We have gone beyond removed a long time ago. The point is that the Senate has a process, set up Committees and the committees made suggestions that Hon. Jibrin accepted some and rejected some.

So the ones he accepted and added were they in the budget.

His colleagues are saying they set aside fund for the project. He should stop jumping from pillar to post and agree he would put the project back when the Federal Government returns the budget to the house.

I am from the South East but will never shy away from the truth!

First of all, GEJ was not voted out for tribalism, he was voted out for his incompetence. I am from the South East but I will never shy away from the truth. Forget about the core North and South, look at results from the middle belt states where PDP previously controlled. PDP lost Benue States because GEJ kept quiet when the Fulanis butchered the Tivs in their homeland. GEJ lost because he kept quiet ad watch Suswam run the state like his personal possession. He lost out not because of tribalism but because of incompetence. In 2011, he defeated the same candidate with a wide margin, the same people that voted him in 2011, voted him out for his incompetence.

SO NEVER YOU PUT THE BLAME ON TRIBALISM, BLAME IT ON HIS INCOMPETENCE

Buhari has not made any significant impact since he became President, but you will agree with me that the level of power supply increased since he became President. Don't tell me GEJ owns the glory because power generation when he came in was a little above 4000 MW and he left us with less than 1000MW on May 29th.

ALSO NOTE THAT IT IS UNFAIR TO JUDGE A GOVT THAT INHERITED POWER WITH OIL PRICE THIS LOW. What was the performance of GEJ with oil price above $100 pb for five consecutive years? Is it fair to compare such a govt with another govt that has never witnessed oil price above $50 pb?

Its true we have fuel scarcity but is this the first time we are experiencing it in Nigeria. The last fuel scarcity occurred during GEJs era and we witnessed the closure of banks, airports, online portals and several other businesses for the first time in Nigeria's history. I guess you turned a blind eye then but now you are geared up to attack PMB for this setback. Fuel scarcities will always come and go, this isn't the first and will not be the last.

PMB has his flaws, just like every other human but he is very much better than GEJ. Nigeria made the right choice because I wonder how things would have been if GEJ had won the past elections.

The dude is correct in his assertions whether he is black, white, Igbo, non Igbo, South South or South West. Thank you

With respect Sir, THE POINT IS THAT YOU MISS THE POINT. I want this project budgeted & executed; it is one of my dream projects. If you read my posts carefully, you will understand that my simple point is that it does not lie in the mouth of the Presidency/Amaechi to attack the NASS over the project when the Presidency itself never included it in the budget they presented to NASS; that is all I am saying. You & I can shout about it but I am saying the Presidency should not claim to be the good guys here while the NASS become the villains. If what you are saying are the facts then it means it was NASS (through it's Committee on Transport) that recommended the project sequel to the budget defence while the same NASS (through its Committee on Appropriations) rejected the recommendation. My point therefore is that while the rest of us ordinary citizens can scream at NASS for refusing the recommendation, etc, the Presidency has no moral grounds to scream at NASS for excluding a project the Presidency itself failed to include in the budget they sent to NASS. THE WAY FORWARD: instead of the Presidency to waste everyone's time throwing stones at NASS; they should sign the budget into law & immediately send a supplementary budget to NASS for the Calabar-Lagos Rail project

The Presidency did not attack NASS. Vanguard released a report that the Presidency will reject the Project because of some deleted projects.

The most important was the Lagos-Calabar Railway project.

The Senators are the ones jumping up and down because of their guilty conscience. There is no Presidency report attacking NASS. None to the best of my knowledge.

There was an amended budget sent to the National House of Assembly. The budget was appropriated by one of their Committee and the Lagos-Calabar Railway project was budgeted.

The Senators should wait for the reply and do the needful. Add the project.

It is painfully disheartening that some of our senators can come out here and support the removal of the said laudable Lagos - Calabar rail project. I guess that project does not fit into the caricature called 'common sense'.
While our senators were busy basking in their euphoria of a pseudo victory for deputy senate president. Their northern counterparts took the two most important committees in both chambers(The committee on appropriation)

It is unfortunate that we are back to the same mistakes we have been making as a people. When we foolishly think we have it, we suddenly wake to the painful reality we've lost even the one we had.

After the submission of the appropriation proposal by the Executive Arm, the national assembly have the constitutional powers to tinker with it and bring out a good working tool and framework for the country. THEY CAN REMOVE AND ADD. "So it is a very lame argument for somebody to say that it was not originally in the proposal, for goodness sake that is why it is called a proposal". It remains a proposal until it is passed into law. After the president's assent, it becomes an appropriation bill(A LAW).

The fact that the minister of transport brought it as a supplementary proposal, is enough to get it into the budget. This is 'common sense'.

LadyExcellency:

Do you know why those against 2nd Niger bridge and Akannu Ibiam Airport are supporting this so-called fictitious Lagos - Cal rail line proposal and blaming the Easterners for the non inclusion of the project in the budget?

Stop taking people for fools and better still mind your own business and stop claiming to fight for the interest of the people you so much hate. Your hypocrisy is all glaring for any discerning mind to see.

You think witchcraft and mind manipulation are part of intelligence quotient? Never, rather discernment is?

Try to get some little education first, before learning how to insult those not in your league!

Even though it s a foolish question that you asked (since the answer is very obvious), l will educate you by directing you to ONE OF YOURS who ensured that you never have good airports, in that part of the country.

Her name is STEALER ODUAH... She was the former Minister for AVIATION, and you have now made her your Senator!

Yet, when the "Mallams- Senators" were diverting funds meant to benefit the South East, into Northern Projects, within the Senate, WHAT DID SHE DO OR SAY?

Okay, maybe she and your other Senators were busy finding ways to abuse Buhari and so fell asleep!

he contract for the procurement of illumination and floodlighting items for 16 airports awarded to Merry Communication, Electronics and Industrials Nigeria Limited is at zero percent completion most probably because the contractor is yet to be paid anything out of the sum of N2.8billion, which is the total contract sum.

In July 2013, the National Union of Air Transport Employees (NUATE) had alleged in a petition that Oduah had awarded contracts to crony firms at bloated costs.
