A bill is useless without the signature of the President.

So they can continue to clown their lives away.

The Injustice Danladi Umar would soon be rendered jobless by the time this bill becomes law.The useless case at the CCT is already as good as dead dear.
Well, Justice Umar's suspension or dismissal from the CCT is entirely another issue. Nevertheless, I think another judge on the CCT would take Umar's place and the trial would still go on.

Buhari may be on a witch-hunt against Saraki, but Saraki's army of SANs should be able to put doubt into the panel of judges on whether he committed the alleged offenses.

He is holding a meeting with V.P Osinbajo right now to see ways to include the lag-cal railway into the budget

I'm sure you dont know that dogara and saraki are so close. All these una permutations and combinations no go work.

Thank God you said the executive. Good to know that the executive has veto power. The bill shall be delayed till saraki goes to jail.

The constitution bars the National Assembly from making retroactive laws (i.e. ex post facto).

Thus, even if the proposed amendment is passed by both chambers, vetoed by the president, and the NASS overrides the veto with a 2/3 majority in both houses, the law would not apply to Saraki's case because his case commenced before the enactment of the law. Also, other pending cases before the CCT won't be affected by the proposed legislation.

The proposed new law will only take effect on future cases i.e. cases commenced after the day of enactment of the amendments.
Thanks for bringing the anarchists up to speed.

Some of us are celebrating this criminals who has looted this country, thinking that PMB will be a casualty. They have absolutely display their worth, not for the people but for themselves. Someone was accused of false assets declaration and embezzling the state fund. They best they can do is to change the law. How many law have they passed that will benefit the people. They woman right bill was through almost immediately.

What a shame!

Bros, it's really a shame.
When you see a young graduate in his twenties without a meaningful job and still living life at the mercy of either the parents or some uncles or aunts referring to a 73 year old man that have seen it all in life as a failure, you begin to wonder the kind of humans that occupy the Nigeria space.

Your statement isn't quite accurate.

A vetoed bill requires the vote of a 2/3 majority of members of both the Senate and House of Reps to become law. Judging by recent developments, it looks like Saraki will garner the required number of votes in the Senate. Not too sure about the HOR.

The president do not need to veto the bill. He only needs to keep it on the shelve where it belongs. He can just inform the press, he's studying it.

exactly my thoughts. He should just say he's studying it for 4 years grin. He should only veto it unless he's sure Saraki cannot get the supermajority numbers to override a presidential veto.

But when will these country be free from tyranny. Only a bloody revolution can save this nation, with saraki's head on a stake

It is not treason. It is comical really.

The senate has forgotten that laws are not retro-active meaning even if they get that bill signed, it does not apply to Senator Saraki's trial.

Plus the President is not going to sign, they can't get 2/3 of the HOR to effect a veto.

This is a waste of legislative hours
That is where you are completely wrong. Saraki will get the 2/3rd majority needed to pass this into law. The Senate knows that if the President and the Lagos leader have their way now, nothing will stop them from trying it again. The Lawan group may not like Saraki, but they know that they don't have the clean slate to cast a stone at Saraki, and live to tell the tale

Buhari and Tinubu must do everything in their power to make sure this bill is shot down in the house of representatives. We cannot condone the alteration on existing law to suit the whims of a corrupt public official, because it has very grave implications for the future. I hope the forces of good in both the senate and house muster enough courage to uphold the president's expected veto. By the way it takes 2/3rds of the 109 senators to override a presidential veto. That means saraki and his criminal gang of senators need at least 73 votes (assuming all 109 senators attend plenary on the day the vote is taken), while in the house of representatives it will also take 2/3rd of the 360 representatives, making the number required for an override to be 240(assuming also all members are in attendance). I doubt if saraki can muscle up that number. But if he eventually does then id say we just make the crook our president.

Well, they are protecting their backs... expect 100% support, if saraki l3ave today and another comes in, and conflicts develops tomorrow... dont you think the same tactic wld be used on the supposed new senate president...

The reluctance of Buhari to learn democratic political game had give room for this saraki to practice his state game nationally. Buhari wake up dis is a democratic govt. U really need to wake up before dis betrayal demote your main motive for this ur regime

I am.suprised that most people don't know that Saraki must have thought out every angle of this plan, and probably has a contingency plan. Those who think that Saraki will not be able to muster the required 2/3rd majority needed to cancel the President's veto, and this sign the bill into law, should think again. The fact is that Saraki is here to stay.

Buhari messed up with his ideology of I'm for everybody and not for anybody. This embolden Saraki to carry out the coup against APC and Buhari stand on non-interference in how NASS leadership emerged.

Exactly. The amendment bill could very well die in the House. But who knows, the House members could still pass it to protect themselves from future arraignment at the CCT.

Self-preservation is the key ingredient in politics grin
