I have read that interview on Gamji. The argument was more class-based than ethnicity-based. He contrasted Murtala Mohamed, a Hausa, descendant of the Alkalin Kano to Abacha, a Kanawa man but Kanuri, son of a cigarette-seller in Fagge quarters.
Aminu Kano championed the cause of the talakawa. But he wasn't Hausa. He was Fulani. You don't have to be from a specific ethnicity to fight against injustice.

Now go reread your history and fix your arguments

This thread is about Fulani vs Hausa, so ethnicity is the bone of contention here. I know you would like to change it to say class-based, or religious, but it's a study of the so-called Hausa assimilation of an apparently more advanced Fulani ethic group that invaded and has been manipulating them for over 200 years now.

Northerners from the Sarakis in Kwara to the Kwankwasos in Kano, to southerners like FFK and Tinubu state that they have Fulani blood in them, just the way some under privileged, long suffering African American would tell you how their great grand mother was Irish or German, without reference to their 100% African features. Everybody wants some sort of association, relationship, or history with the ruling group.
If you claim, Aminu Kano was Fulani, who would argue that, given the environment of his time, but we know where he dedicated his life to.

You don't get it. You don't have to be from such and such ethnicity to be a paragon of virtue or a vicious bastard.
How unlikely is it that these people that you mentioned don't have Fulani blood? It's not as if people lived in autarky for millennias.
Look at the Sardauna. Would you doubt that he is Fulani because of his features?
If assimilation there was, the Fulani were the ones who were assimilated more than the Hausas. (Hence Hausa-Fulani)

My brother, this one no be fight, but reality. My auntie married Plateau man during the civil, she came back to Enugu during the last Christmas with a full muslim regalia with a matching gold tooth, for over one week, she told people she is Fulani, until people who knew her cautioned and warned her. She didn't even marry a Fulani man, but my Igbo-born auntie, her Plateau husband, and her children now call themselves Fulani! So you have my point.
While there are no pictures of Othman dan Fodio, Sarduana and other northern leaders of Fulani stock have their unique features. These features may not be as strong as those of Abubarkar Rimi, but you can tell sometimes. Once again, my point is that if I call myself Fulani long enough, I become Fulani, but does that really male me Fulani like my auntie?

Again, the Fulanis are put into educational tract as early as possible, that's why northern kids doing well in southern universities like UNN and UI are almost always Fulanis. Until we liberate the Hausas from oppression, Nigeria will certainly not be an egalitarian society.

I agree she was confused, but the bigger point is that everybody wants to be identfied with Fulani. Even 100% Hausa born and bred stocks have to at some point claim to be Fulanis in order to access jobs, positions, and even respect

Lol at the OP. Your attempt at speaking for the hausas like this will not work. Its best for them to do it themselves if they see it necessary.
The hausa/fulani relationship is one that has come a long way. Many people didn't know that happened in Ilorin is what happened in majority of the hausaland. The fulanis used religion to control the indigenes in ousting the indigenous kings. If not, the fulanis could not have subdued the big hausa population. According to one European author who visited hausaland in the 19th century wrote that at that time it was difficult differentiating between hausas and fulanis. They have come a long way with the fulanis having an upper hand. After much of my studies, I noticed this pattern in the present day. Fulani > Hausa/fulani >> Hausa. A proud fulani WILL NEVER tell you he is hausa/fulani. He will emphasise his uniqueness which is actually true. A hausa man considers it an honour to be referred as hausa-fulani. This is mostly found among the hausa elites. The poor hausas are the ones referred to as hausas today. Secretly, some hausas I know are not happy with the situation and wished things can change. While I was in Kaduna, a hausa man around early 50s then was lamenting in the bus I boarded then on how the hausas are the most hated ethnic group in Nigeria. He was referring to the past presidents of Nigeria being called hausas even though that's not true. He was really pained from his outburst. Sadly, I feel for the hausas because they really are not a set of vicious people like the fulanis. However, its not in my place to speak for them. Today, the problem with Nigeria is the hausa/fulanis of which both groups will suffer for when the time is ripe.
NB: To an extent I can spot the difference between both groups when I see them.

Perfect observation
