Nice one.... John Locke state of nature is hypothetical and inconceivable, so I think a new society is better of.

Coming with more addition.

Didn't read up the question better I was thinking of Thomas hobbes state of nature.. ...

John Locke state of nature will be better of than a new society if we can at first establish what kind of society we are looking at...

A very foolish course with no hope of a job in the labour market. Many philosophy graduates roaming the streets after many years of graduation, except those with long legs
Philosophers in the house, this is a sample of Nigeria's Problem. Most "graduates" never graduate to solve problems but rather, add to the burden on the labour market. Thats why we need philosophic thinkers, they will 'change the world' (karl Marx). "...those who think only about what to consume will end up being consumed"- Dr David Oyedepo

first of all, let's imagine a world without government in which the people there are only guided by natural laws not forgetting that humans are inherently egoistic in nature....despite our rationality, the egoism in us upgrades to wickedness and heartlessness and there is no government to curb our actions and make us put our burning desires under check...what do you think life in that world would be like??.....true, our government aren't doing enough BT in the words of Donald Trump "it is only a government that can control the heart of men that can boast of a building a perfect society"

You can never have a perfect society, hypothetically and practically speaking.

Sir, a Philosopher who puts to work his accumulated rational "tools" will not only get food on his table, but also on other people's tables. What we need are Thinkers. Philosophy, apparently trains you to think.

Why do many undergraduates and fresh graduates always think of 'employer', 'get job', 'labour market'? Do You Ever Think Of Creating Jobs? Do You Think Of Solving Problems?

Is there really a way the above question can be answered without religious colouration? Hmmmm

Will try.

Fynestboi:

For Locke, in the state of nature all men are free "to order their actions, and dispose of their possessions and persons, as they think fit, within the bounds of the law of nature."

A society in a kind of state of nature painted by Locke I believe is better than a new society where the government dictate authoritatively.

Won't you prefer to stay in a place where you are free to do what you deem fit, without any fear than been ordered around?

the closest wev come to that kind of free society is the united states ..look were we are. if everyman does wht he/she deem fit in his own eyes, then that wont be a society. a society must be bounded by common values systems and believes both intra and inter.

An interesting pool of wisdom created here. I am 'wise' one, crafted so by UNIABUJA. Need to know more about career options available to graduates of Philosophy in Nigeria and the globalised world.

Yeah Yeah Yeah. Moves closer to the podium picks up the mic for announcement....

This thread will serve as a discourse thread for philosophy student to rub mind critically, analytically, logically, epistemologically, metaphysically etc....
As we all know that philosophy is the mother of all courses “scientia matrix" on this note, other discipline that wish to learn or add to the discourse are duely welcome....

This is how we gonna roll In here, we bring up a topic and attempt to solve it using philosophical tools.

Both graduate and undergraduate of this wonderful discipline are welcome..

one of the reason why u need philosophies ideas. Education is abt empowerment nt just employment. A accounting graduates might nt add anything in d banking industry if u need to know. If i'm out of fact, make research on those bank that are sacking their employees, dis days. Been an egineer graduate in schl, if one dont have a personal upbringing, he or she might end up as a subordinate to d technological industry. Philosophy teaches go beyond physcial explanation, it open your world to sth new and strengthen man on how possible u can build your dream without anyone influence. Pls get it, graduating from schls is nt just abt employment, this employment syndrome is d major problem of unemploment

What's the point in manufacturing food that has an expiry date?

What's the point in exerting all your energy and love on something that isn't guaranteed?

What's the point in setting and chasing goals when success has a personal definition?

The commonality in all the examples is encapsulated with the single word "purpose" and the purpose is a pre-determined phenom which humans usually aspire to serve.

We know planet earth was an empty spheroid and majority of past greats were able to leave lasting legacies that we now build advancement and subsequent innovations upon.

I know it's gibberish fynestboi but what's with all these philosophical questions mehn....
