christopher123:One is that freedom of association has nothing to do with Seceding a sovereign state. No one group or state has the right to do that. All Nigerians must have a referendum because this decision affects all Nigerians not just biafrans. Why Nigerians are really skeptical about voting the biafra is not because of oil or whatever. It is simply Nigerians see that the whole Biafra thing will not benefit the common Igbo man who has no political, social or financial interests in all these. It will further oppress them. Secondly, at least more than half of Igbo people say that there is a problem in our constitution and system of govt that marginalizes some groups, not just igbos [MIDDLE-BELTANS] Have never been president too but the answer is not Biafra. Biafra is seeking ethnically clean groups, that is not possible in modern society. They say they do not want Biafra but are not happy with the current way the system is run. That means the problem is with the constitution not tribal. Igbos forget that there are many groups maginalized here. Many, thanks to the corruption of our politicians. We must fight and eradicate corruption across all states from igbo to hausa, chriatain to muslim before we can begin to decide if we split. If there is corruption, and we split, i feel sorry for those who will find themselves in biafra. The will be looted dry. |

enlightenedmind:Now this is the better response ...not all groups will want referendum. We can't lump everybody up. If a particular section wants referendum why don't give it to them? Some people are very okay with Nigeria some people are not okay with Nigeria So conducting referendum to all will be tantamount to waste of resources ,time and energy. The whole EU won't conduct a referendum it's only Britain so it is and that has been the global standard practise . the same way it way done in Ireland the same way it was done in Catalonia we can't always do the wrong thing in Nigeria. This is one of the reasons Igbo want out. Nigeria keeps doing the wrong thing for obvious reason Referendum is done in affected places not on generality.. This is the global best practise From the look of things , igbo are not going or wants to go because of marginalisation ..I don't think so.Igbo to me wants to leave so that they can chart their own course and find their own destiny . TO ME THAT IS NOT A BAD THING to ask Just like when a wife wants out you tell your in-laws to go for a referendum . this is exactly what you have opined The whole EU isn't going for a referendum but only Brits not even the Scots That's is the best global practise As you can see your argument and postulation doesn't hold water I ask again Why is Nigeria not comfortable with Igbo leaving or staying? What will Nigeria loose if Igbo stays or go? I really need to get answers here pls |

enlightenedmind:The problem I have with people is that they believe in resources ! Oh you meant oil right ? Have you heard of the term Dutch disease ? Pls look it up in dictionary . it is the effects of over dependency on oil and that is what we have been offering What develops a country isnt resources because if it were resources African would have been developed all these years and Japan and Korea with no resources be poor but the reverse is the case The best resources a country can get is brain and human resources... We just can't refine common crude and Igbo ja not even keen on taking the resources ...I felt that they want to have their destinies in their hands and not be lumped together with people that have different ideologies Ideologies is what makes a nation America believe in liberty Russia believe on communism China people in people communism Angola believe in a Christian economy Saudi believe in Arab emancipation and economy Biafra believe in freedom and optimism ...that has been demonstrated What is this country's ideology We have to be honest here .... Nigeria regions have different ideology ..some believe in self advancement while some believe that enaything Western education is totally bad. Now how can these entities work together ? |

Other Races especially Africans are still governed by the teachings of paganism and islamism When you compare the teachings propagated by these religions, you will understand why some tribes in Africa are wild and evil while others are gentle and good |

HiddenShadow:A better answer and I believe that at some point the whites were pegans . I could remember the dark ages. Maybe that's why Igbo want out becuase thye have evolved from pegan PR heathen to 99.99 % of them as Christian maybe they want to build their society and country based on Christian principle without any undue interference Maybe Biafra will be the poster card for African development Maybe Biafra concept will re draw the map that European cartographers did in Europe like 300 years ago without any consultation to Africa I think it will be nice to see how African go about this Biafra thing Will it be their normal violent nature Will they toe the civilisation What is the fear of Biafra ? What will Nigeria loose ? I think Africa will gain more in terms of respect from global powers and also integrity What's your take ? |

christopher123:Even Satan knows that Biafra will threaten his Kingdom as they become exemplary case study for Africans to copy The simple truth most Igbos don't know is that their total embracement of Christianity has stirred up Hell against them. The struggle for freedom must not be fought physically only but also Spiritually especially in the place of prayer. My question to you is How often do you pray for freedom and encourage others to pray.? Daily Weekly Monthly Yearly or Never |

christopher123:Very succint! "I AM GOING TO OPPRESS YOU AND YOU MUST NOT LEAVE THIS COUNTRY BECAUSE I HAVE GUNS TO KILL YOU". The above statement capture the Unevolved African man's (beast) mentality whenever he acquires power. The fulani case is even worse because they also practice a religion that is intolerant of dissenting views and allows them to 'oppress the kaffurs'. So it is double wahala-AFriCan+Muslim. The next war won't be fought as it was in 1967 as the world now have the facts. It is much difficult to sell propaganda in this information age as the Brits did for them in 1967. I doubt if Brits won't want to be seen as helping Muslim Fulani to kill Christian Biafrans. Whatever happens fulanis won't get the kind of support they got in 1967-70, and if they don't embrace peace and settle this Biafran problem by dragging their region out of nigeria and ban the internet there to maintain feudal control, their loss in loss in the next war may be costly for them. They might have to go back to foutta djallon to survive because even some hausas are waking up. Soon tables will turn as it has always done in the history of every country. 1000 year old empires have been brought down in history when their rulers thought they will last forever. The fulanis should learn, they can't have it all. |

Christopher, thank you for such a wonderful thread. I have have opened threads in the past where I asked direct simple questions like you are doing and all "One nigerianists" do is that they "Peep and Run". Even when they decide to respond, their reponse is full of accusations and insult and has nothing to do with the question you asked. The problem with "one Nigerianists" is that they know that IPOB and Biafrans are constantly providing rational, empirical, and superior points on the need to separate. If it wasnt coming from biafrans, they will agree with it 100% because it just makes sense. But fear of an uncertain future in Nigeria and blind hatred makes them (one nigerianist) support something that is not working. |

Poster, You have raised a very good discussion topic. It is very sad that Nigerians have a spirit of intolerance and poor intellect. People who hold contraty views to you would rather insult you rather than counter your point with intelligent arguments. The thing is simple. Call it an 'African Mentality'. Nigerians are fully aware of the prospects that the Igbos (and other non-Igbo speaking Biafrans) have and are clearly scared of letting them go. You see so much hatred when the word 'Biafra' is mentioned. It is a clear sign that the word 'Biafra' causes so much discomfort for some people. Please keep up the spirit. There are many of us who strongly believe in the rights of people of a common value system to be together. Biafra and the Islamic Value system of the North and some parts of Yoruba Land is not compatible with Biafra. |

A poster on Nairaland once said " The truth is equivalent to death sentence in Nigeria". Nigerians hate the truth and are willing to kill you for it. But as dearpreye once said " Nigeria has a date with the truth", I am confident that in time delayed destiny shall manifest. |

christopher123:How did you know christian East and Niger Delta said yes to biafra? Did you conduct an opinion poll? And if you did, can you kindly share so we can learn?. The question is why are we having nightmare ? Why are we making people to feel Igbo are special ? I am just asking these questions because I am a bit confused and I need clarification on why Nigerians and so many people are scared of Igbo leaving . me personally I am indifferent and I don't care if Biafra comes or not . if it comes fine by me and I will be happy not as an Igbo but as a Christian that wants sanity but if it doesn't come ..well what can I do? But I pray for the former than the laterOnce again, how did you know Nigerians are scared of igbo living Nigeria? Was an opinion poll conducted by you to arrive at this conclusion? I am writing this because I was watching BBC news and the British have seen that EU membership is not benefiting them and they want out. The Britain are voting to leave Europe union not that they are special but they want to chart their own course and find their path. They have realised that membership of EU has never benefited them and they can't understand why they should be subsidising inept European countries like Greece , Macedonia, Eastern Europe countries with tons of bailout . Britain have never been particularly about EU membership... They never endorsed Euro as a currency and they never took them serious. The only country that is interested in European union seems to be Germany ..they bank roll the expenses of those country that are ineptDo you know the difference between a federation and a con-federation? Is the E.U a federal entity like Nigeria or the U.S.A?. For the fact that you compared a Union of States to a State shows you have absolutely no idea what you're talking about. What is this telling us...it is a lesson to black man..it has to show us that Europe is far far ahead of us..they are light years and they understand the freedom of association and right to determine their fates. Nobody is treating and threatening British government with wars and annihilation. Obama was in UK to say happy birthday to queen but used the same time to beg Brits to stay and he subtly threatened them...they called him bluff..James Cameron was so apt and pointOnce again. The Brits operate their country as a single entity, tell me, why do you think the Brits don't use The Euro? Here in Nigeria what do we get? Savegry, killing threats and whatsoever.. We have to respect and understand the concept of sanctity of life .If you want a referendum, you can conduct one yourself, or perhaps you can find a way to muster the courage and get the collective opinions from Igbos all over the country and draw your conclusion. There are ways in which Igbos can achieve their Biafra, but violence and blocking of roads isn't one of them. The ball is in the court of the Igbos to sit down as a unit of people and decide what they want. |

There is currently a jihad in Nigeria. It is not just a violent jihad (Boko Haram + Fulani Herdsmen) but also a media jihad (Nairaland, social media and other paid posters spreading the evil plan). The onslaught is incredible but people need to stand strong. |

joseph1832:Here and now, can you substantiate your silly allegation of linking IPOB with violence? What other way of gathering the opinions of Igbos is better than what IPOB is doing - sending terrible tremors down the spines of enemies of progress who have chosen to slay peaceful protesters? Since you've chosen to reduce the crust of the matter to blocking of roads, can you show how you and your elites have countered the continued blocking of highways and slaughtering of villagers by Fulani herdsmen for decades now? Your lies and hypocrisy against Igbos are DOA. A person whose people are barely existing cannot dictate to another how to live. Moreover, such referendum is usually carried out and supervised by UN. So far in all these years of its existence IPOB has conducted its affairs including protests peacefully including seeking the necessary international recognition and process for self-determination. https://www.nairaland.com/2780954/biafra-oeas-demands-snap-referendum |
