femmykenny: Stale thread! Maybe fresh for the newbies. N.B: Your no.5 reason is so lame and shallow. Puts a damper on your article. When you have nothing more cerebral to add to a write-up you're working on, just round it up rather than risking an observation such as this. Not that my opinion matters anyway. |

myners007: I dont usually do this but the things you have listed here are not entirely true. 1. The school fee of every university is high. The only reason you pay less in the public universities is cos someone (government) has paid the rest. 2. How do you measure competency biko, is it by the number of degrees or by achievements. I know two private universities in Nigeria who beat many other public universities to win major grants. I am talking grants in millions of dollars. Guess who drew up the proposal for these grants... the incompetent members of staff. 3. As regards advanced degrees, I believe the aim here is to be able to apply concepts previously learned. Some private universities boast of some of the most advanced equipments needed to do research in Nigeria. Infact the average undergraduate research project in a private will amaze you talk less of post grad research projects 4. Recklessness is not unique to either private or public schools. 5. I assure you, this is not so. I won't say more than that. Private schools are still in their infancy, just give it a little while and the top 10 schools in Nigeria will be privately run schools. Check out who runs the top schools in the world 3 Likes |

Why won't they have good results when they are paying exorbitant fees.. They con allow them fail? No! Some who attend private University and polytechnics don't even know anything |
Re: 5 Benefits Of Choosing A Private University And Polytechnic by ibiyemi93: 8:22am On Apr 26, 2016 |
pinkiberry: Well said my dear. Instead of going to a private polytechnic, would rather go to a Federal uni in far north where the jamb cut off mark ll still get u a course though not so low marks; and if I have to do a pre-degree, the fees would not discourage me still. Considering the discriminations in getting jobs and how the both are been treated once they want to make you a full staff in some company, one has to be so careful in choosing. |

Even if jst 1,dts wn ur post wl mke some sense cos I dnt knw hw u want an average teacher, or fish seller or mechanic or a petty trader and d lkes with 2 or more children to snd their wards to private higher institutns. |

myners007: Indeed you may be right about the high tuition fees etc BUT Whether half baked or fully baked, Nigeria only needs your certificate AND Not what you have upstairs!!! |
Re: 5 Benefits Of Choosing A Private University And Polytechnic by tylerbraid(m): 8:46am On Apr 26, 2016 |
myners007:the so called "half baked"graduates are the ones getting all the better jobs out there. Do a research on this to confirm what I'm saying. Before a top organisation employs 10 public university graduates, they would have offered employment to 30 private university graduates right from the day of there convocation.
Many Nigerians have complex issues, and are quite insane. They always see needless reasons to look down on people from some other side of a divide. I understand that many are agitated by the high cost of schooling in a Private institution, but even I can't afford it right now, and it still wouldn't make me dismiss them as substandard. People call themselves educated, but still think attending Uni in a school with abominable Toilet and Bathrooms is a standard which defines how 'toughened up' you are. What exactly have you done special in your public Uni? Any notable research, discoveries? What is interesting about the sadistic Lecturers that fill up these universities? The funny thing is there are even better polished students in private institutions, since a large group of the students are from middle to upper class families. (take it from someone who has first hand knowledge on both) I have several Public uni students/graduates on my Facebook timeline, who can't even make a proper sentence devoid of spelling or grammatical errors, yet we keep hearing tales of how 'bright' they are. This is not to support either of private or public unis. It was written to point out the fact that a superiority battle is needless in this Nigerian environment where even the professors are just paper certified, with no notable research or visible impact made with their supposed scholarly prowess. Also remember that there are good and bad public and private universities. An example is FUNAAB which has excellent hostels, bathroom, toilets, study rooms etc, while even those bigger pedigrees have abominable facilities. (UNILAG and co).
Sometimes I wonder y blame is put on d higher institutns wn some undergraduates or graduates make errors when constructing senences. Wt concerns d uni or poly abt ds? Is dt whr we were taught hw to read, write n understand Eng lang? If d foundatn is poor I.e d pry n secondary schs, it can't b correctd in d higher institutn. Ma opinion though |
